Interesting to note how most of Elias's follower's/ fellow soldiers appear to be more sympathetic to the villagers, carrying their kids, allowing their kids to wear their helmets and stuff whereas Barne's followers appear to have either just walked on without caring about the people who's village they just torched together and some even have the villagers tied up around their necks like animals.

What made platoon the best war movie ever made was the fact that you could not tell who the bad guys were.. we thought it was the enemy, but in this movie what made it so real that you couldn't tell who the bad guys really were. it's simply a masterpiece of a movie!

Band of Brothers is MUCH better. Plus this doesn't cover most of the BS thrown at both sides and makes shit way more dramatic than normally was, granted it did get this intense if not more many times. Oh and Full Metal Jacket is only saved by the basic training, the rest of the movie is garbage.

I'm happy that this film was made in the 80s. There's something about modern camera's that just don't get across the gritty visuals that make war films like this all the more haunting. I feel like I'm looking directly into the late 60's rather than some 21st century high tech camera. It's sort of the same for horror, as with Texas Chainsaw Massacre, those old camera's made the visuals so much more offputting and real.
@evanpeltier
@evanpeltier 4 года назад
I agree completely! I think what you are actually referring to is film, as in film negatives, instead of digital. Shooting a movie on film makes it look more organic and real, and colors are very vibrant, as opposed to digital, which makes everything look flat and one dimensional. Quentin Tarantino elaborates about this all the time when talking about his filmmaking process.

Imagine you living in a place where there is only one race and suddenly having the whole world of people coming to your village with futuristic clothing, equipment/guns and then destroying it. Now imagine living in a place where people the same race as you come to your village, murder the village chief, and force you to hide weapons/ammo and food and collect taxes from you and everyone else. Failure to cooperate results in everyone being eradicated. That’s what the VC did to people in South Vietnam. There were no innocent sides. We did commit some barbarous acts, but so did the VC, NVA, and the ARVN.

Yes we were enslaved in 1000 years, but we also rise up and fight in that period, we still keep our culture even Chinese tried to make Vietnamese become Chinese. And the next 1000 year, we became an independent kingdom, we defeat Han's army in Bach Dang river, we broke 2 invasion of Song dynasty(the second time our general Ly Thuong Kiet bring his troop destroy three provinces of Song 'south border). Then we defeat Mongol 3 times without any typhoon like Japan. After tha fallen of our Ho's dynasty, king Le Loi kick out Ming's army after 20 years. Finally is king Quang Trung strike the Qing army in some days. Ok that is our feudal time. The next period may be known by the world, France, Us can't overthrown our present goverment. The we kicked Pol Pot army to Thailand border in 2 weeks. Also in Feb 1979, 600.000 PLA invaded our north border and face against 90000 our milita and partisans troop in 2 weeks, and they can not push deeper to Hanoi like they planned.(They said:"Hanoi's rice for breakfast, Saigon's pho for dinner). The they have to retreat when our army from Cambodia transported back. And the Pol Pot is destroy, even though how hard Chinese tried to save them, and UN said Vietnam invased Cambodia. But we saved milions Cambodia people from holocaust. The world owns us an apologize. You can read our history on wikipedia. And remember: Google is free. Best regards.

It is the pain of the past that people living in the present still carry and haunt. Their relatives were mercilessly shot by blondes and blue eyes. Vietnamese people still remember this incident as the pain of heroic national history. Thank you to the American people who stood up to oppose the US invasion of Vietnam. We love peace, I believe you do too and so does the whole world. Now both countries are shaking hands for a long-term and sustainable relationship with the motto "putting aside the past and looking towards the future". Nothing comes remotely close, not hamburger hill, saving private ryan, not even full Metal Jacket comes close to platoon. it's simply the best war movie ever made! What made it the best was that it didn't cast the American soldiers as some John Wayne types, just human beings

+The ride never ends Yh absolute masterpiece from Coppola which says a lot, but you could also say that the film itself is great standalone regardless of the Vietnam aspect, it even works as some kind of metaphor for the pathway to evil inside all humans as well, but you can also say that the films plot and themes also trail into ultra surrealism even at the start of the film and descends into absolute insanity by the end. more of a brain trip and such than a complete reflection.

Saw this back in the 80's with my father in the theater 2X -- same day. And then on VHS tape multiple times. It was that powerful. One thing that stood out was in the scene pictures were being taken (father acknowledged it who served during but not in Vietnam). I don't think I was too young but did not quite get the significance of what my father pointed out then. Now I suppose it is meaningful but open to interpretation.

you now how many psychopaths join the army for this reason? One of the most prolific serial killers, Ramirez’s uncle, was a war veteran who mutilated, shrinked heads and took pic of the women he mutilated while being on Vietnam, Oh he did enjoy the fun, even hiding the shrink heads in a box like treasures in his house in America and showed the pics of mutilated victims proudly to his little nephew who needed up became a serial killer. Some men are born monsters, it’s a fact. There are many and many studies who have show there are people who are born to be psychopaths, war and the army is just a play field for them.
