@@jinxchanel3638 I probably won't do an official video since not a lot of people were interested in her, but basically she's doing great! She's currently in a partial brumation because of the winter season, but I've been weighing her and her weight has hardly gone done. Maybe in the spring, I'll hold her in one of my videos.
@@GirlTalksFish yeess, i love Leopard geckos, but i live whit my mom and dad and only reptile they say is ok is turtel lol, they also Say that i dont need more pets( i have 70)
If it's a gulper catfish, He would love them all and wants them to be a part of him.(Dark joke.. Gulper catfishes will eat anything that has less size than them..)
Gorgeous Betta you have there 👍 After a couple decades of having a variety of different kinds of aquatic critters including saltwater , I decided to go back to my roots and got some live-bearers like the platy . I've always loved the variety of colors that are available and the fact that they're excellent at eating algae and that they're very forgiving on water conditions . They're a great fish for those who are just starting the hobby .
Sunburst platy’s are AMAZING! They always come up to the glass whenever they see my face. Super easy to feed and I wasn’t even expecting babies. Just amazing fish. They can also take up to 50 nitrates, but less then 40 is better.
I hadn’t even heard of platys up until a few months ago and now they’re pretty much my favourite fish ❤ they’re so active and cute! And the colour combinations are so fun!
I have kept a lot of different fish species, starting from big cichlids to saltwater pufferfish, and something that i always loved to have and breed was livebearers, specially platys and guppies, it is never boring to have these boys, awesome video!
I love platies!, they were my first few fish and lived 3 or 4 years and were so hardy! I think I had a Mickey Mouse platy, some sort of orange yellow platy and a white and black platy. A weird color choice 9 year old me made. A few didn’t have a problem in freshwater but one did die from being raised in brackish water like yours too.
Your red coral platies inspired me to get some myself, i love how hardy and peaceful they are and their red color looks so vibrant against the dark substrate and green lush plants!!! ❤
Platies are my absolute favorite! I have a 55g platy tank on my screen porch and I'm getting some really cool cross strains like bumblebee mickey mouse and panda green. They're terrific, hardy little fish who are always active and curious. They may be "beginner" fish, but that doesn't make them any less fun for more experienced hobbyists to keep!
I been keeping fish for like 4yrs and I've had the same group of platies since I started even when I started with other more harder fish I still have them my favourite fish by far
YESS! Great Video. Platy's are perfect for a beginner. I started with 5 sunset mickey mouse platy in November, and now have 11 (Dalmatian, Wagtail & MM mix) with 2 tiny fry I saw just last night. I just let nature takes its course, as I don't have any other tanks to move them to. PS I tried milk tea for the first time last week, and the tapioca pearls were a no go. My wife called them fish eyes and that was the end of that. LOL!
Your vids are well worth watching, and your choice of stock for a nano tank have been perfect. I have recently added a trio of red wagtail platies to our 15g column tank. It is well established and heavily planted (crypts and anubius). The platies are still shy after a few days, and the glowlight tetras and corys (5 and 3, respectively), could care less. A few weeks ago we lost our flame dwarf gourami, who was a bit of a bully. And a few months ago we tried oto cats, but they didn't last long. We have hard water and a lot of copper in the tap water. Enough copper we can't keep snails. The platies will be happy with a bit of algae! Keep making great content. 😊
I’m such a sucker for a pretty platy - highly underrated fish. They didn’t last long for me though, and I stopped keeping them a couple of years ago. I’ve since discovered my GH is 2-3 degrees, so now that I’ve discovered Equilibrium while setting up my now successful guppy tank I want to try again soon! Next time you have any to drop off at Priscilla’s I’ll head over there ;)
Gave away for free about 75 platies that were born in my Aquarium few weeks back to a local fish keeper. Thankfully they are now in an even bigger tank. I'm happy. But man, these fishes can't stop producing!! I just love them all so much though. I still have 2/3 of the population left 😅❤️
Hey i got my first platy fish THEY ARE SO GREAT❤️ after long time waiting, as soon as i came home female gave birth to fry🤩 Would like to see more platy related content 😬like raising fry 😄
Trippy that you had milk tea at the end! When this first started, I was looking at the bottom left and thought for a second: Wait, are those Boba cup filters?!
I have a 16 gallon platy tank. I like them, too. In another tank, I have mollies and swords. My dalmation mollies just had fry. By the time I found them there were 4 left - I now have them in a nursery tank.
Before watching the video, I was curious about why you didn't choose guppies or Endlers. But as you say, the platy females are as colorful as the males. One plus for Endlers and guppies is that they are a smaller fish. I wouldn't put platies in anything smaller than a 20 gallon aquarium.
I see you have the dwarf chain loaches with amano shrimp. I was warned that wasn't safe for the shrimp. Have you noticed any missing amano in that tank?
Nope! My amano shrimp are about 2/3 the size of the dwarf loaches and are confident enough to hold their own. That being said, not sure how juvenile amanos would do.
I just got my first four Pilates maybe 4 days ago and I already have fry swimming around my tank. These ladies must have came pregnant from the shop, pretty cool.
I have a planted 10 gallon tank and platys are beautiful for me! But i'm not interested in breeding at all and I don't want any fry, how can I do this while still having multiple platys? Or is it impossible and I will only be able to get one?
Although that betta looks great with your platies, Betta might go after hi-fin varieties. We have an injured hi-fin for that reason, who happened to also be a bully to the other platies from his group. Otherwise platies are great tank mates for almost any small fish. They are great in community tanks! I'm on the lookout for a decent 20gal to upgrade my platy tank, and looking for blue/green/rainbow/parrot platies. By the way, do platies exhibit chimaerism? As far as I know, platies tend to be somewhat symmetrical, but I found one particular black tux at the local store who had an orange-gold streak across his left side, so I figured he might be an example of a chimaera. Or maybe he has some sort of mutation.
I'm not sure why captions aren't an option for this video, but if that's something within your control, may I ask you to keep them enabled? It's very helpful for those who enjoy your videos and have auditory issues. Thank you!
I got some red wag and sunburst wags and they are so fun to look at and are very peaceful with my red eye monk tetras/lamp eye tetras tbh I think I should've gotten blue wags to balance out the fish colors tho but I didn't cause the blue looked so dull on them compared to the others 😭
Platies have been my favorite community style fish since I was very young. "just add water" isn't far from accurate, lol. I think the only livebearer easier to breed are mollies.
Michael! Good question, I've never kept just one before, but I believe you could because they're very confident fish and don't tend to school together in a tight group unless they think you're about to feed them.
I never had great success with platies and swordtails. But I always had success with mollies. I also like that they are the least likely of livebearers to eat their young.
Pretty tank, nice assortment of colors. I like the way it's planted, too. Could you tell me what the plant was in the lower left corner in the back please? I think my neon green tetras would enjoy swimming around in it. Thanx.
I bought a few platys today and the staff told me that they are brackish water fish and I swear I kept them in fresh water when I was young! That is why!
Lol hahaha supoib video . Got my friend into keeping fish and omg his tank is full of babies As a beginner his joy at babies is a pleasure to behold He is an ex Royal Marine and this hobby totally destressed him . Will switch him on to your channel . Top effort .
I get a male and female platy, after 3 weeks I get 2 more females, and the male it's just chasing the 2 new females but not to mate it's like he don't want them around. Theres plenty of spaces to hide but he still dont want them around, they are a bit smaller than the first 2 and I change the whole decoration and still the same.
I love Platies but they're starting to go the way of the Guppy. They are so interbred that they aren't as "beginner " as they used to be. Thanks Irene.
I think by the time you see this I will have my situation all sorted out, but the worker at the store accidentally gave me 2 males and a female. I plan on returning a male tomorrow and exchanging for a female but will they be fine for the night?
My Betta injured the eye of my catfish and now he lost the eye. I removed him and put him with my other Betta. No problem. But then he got like a cataract on his good eye! What? clean tank no problem...he eats find and gets around. what do you think?
THEY ARE DOWNRIGHT THE BESSSSTTT beginner fish. Here’s why. You really do get all the value for the price your paying for them. Also, when a weird disease broke out in my indoor pond breeding project (guppies, mollies, platies) so when the our rela happened (idk what disease it just killed off my fish idk why) the only thing living was my platies and I was rlly confused on HOW THE HECK THEY WERE SO HARDY. Also breeding them is in general pretty easy. My females used to give out about 60 fry a month. So yeah if your a beginner fish keeper platy live bearers r a really good choice. They r pretty! Well priced! AND HARDY AF! XD
I have platies and often they have skinny tummy (like starving human tummy) then they die. I did feed them with flake regularly every 2 days and they ate it. Could any of you guys give me info what happen to my platies. Thank you very much.
Hey guys, I have a platy tank that is doing well but unfortunately, my heater broke today :( Will my platies be okay for one day unheated until my new one arrives? My room is about 70 F and my tank is normally heated to 75. My tank has dropped to about 72 since my heater crapped out and I haven't noticed a change in their behavior yet.
I bought platties got one that was super fat and just exploded with size.. One morning woke up she looked normal.. Didn’t see any babies.. I also have about 40 tiger barbs in the same tank.. That’s maybe why 🤭 Oops
I supplement with Seachem Flourish Potassium. 👍 My dwarf lily hasn't recovered yet from losing all its big leaves, but I'm hoping time will heal all wounds.
i have a 30L tank and I had taken 4 platies back in August. The female has had 14 babies thus far and I cannot keep them.. My tank is too small for that many fish... What can I do?
