This is the first part of a 2 part tutorial on playing Blues in the first position on harmonica - using an A harmonica to play Blues in the key of A. If you want to hear a good example of this listen to Muddy Waters' classic recording of "Hoochie coochie man" and listen to what Little Walter is playing on the harmonica
I am using a Seydel 1847 Noble harmonica in the key of A

Much appreciated, well explained and very well played. Thank you. my A harp thanks you for getting out of 2nd position alla time:) Someone told me that the 1st position scale works well on the 4 chord, when playing in 2nd. I just heard a 1st position song by Annie Raines called let me be your little dog and wow it's a fun little song to ear train with. I'm making a lotta noise but its coming heh:) Thank you

That's correct. , when playing 2nd position, going to the 4 chord is like playing first position - and playing the 5 chord is like playing 3rd position (example: on an A harp, the 1 (E) chord is 2nd position, the 4 (A) is 1st poistion , and the 5 (B) is 3rd poistion) - hope this helps more than it confuses :)

3:52 sir : you are not talking about overblows here , aren’t you ?
@hammerblues
@hammerblues 9 месяцев назад
No , these are regular blow bends. An overblow is when you make a blow note go UP a tone ans a half (this can be done on holes 1,4,5 and 6). A Blow bend is when you make a blow note go DOWN a half step (on holes 8 and 9) or a full tone (on hole 10). While overblows are a relatibely modern technique (only discovered in the 1970s), blow bends are very common in traditional harmonica playing, and slightly easier to do. Check out my tutorial on blow bends: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tJApLgjVvD8.html

@@hammerblues thank toi thank you. Trying to do the blues scale on the higher octave . On another note : I am trying strongly to play The creeper (James cotton : I think it’s an A harp but not sure ) and Blues in my sleep. I think Cotton isn’t viewed as a technicien but so so much ❤️

@@ikust007 The Creeper is a big challenge to play!! James Cotton is absolutely one of my favorite harmonica players, and you can learn a LOT studying his work
