Okay, this is JUST what I needed right now. The point about using those CAGED shapes and find the major pentatonic scales for each chord, it's simple yet brilliant. Being stuck in a major rut, something this easy-to-understand and also useful, is brilliant. Thanks, man, loving these videos.

Very easy and useful.. good way to knock out two lessons in one .. one being chord recognition in different positions.. two identification of major pentatonics in said position's ..

Great no nonsense, straight forward lesson. Even though I know the approach in this particular lesson I still gained a little more insight. BTW, if I wasn't already subscribed, I would have done it today just because of that t-shirt. I love it.

Just going by the title: "You mean more melodic than the original solo, which I haven't heard in years but could still both sing and play from memory?" :D Joking aside, it's a good video on CAGED! :)

This might be a stupid question but can you use the CAGED system for minor chords? My understanding is CAGED is simply a method to visual arpeggio and scale notes around those shapes and make it easier to see connections between them. So its simply a question of visualising the minor chord shapes and doing what you did in this video. Thanks

DexterLlew bingo! Flatten the 3rds... you got minor! Funny that when you do that in each 5 CAGED position you have the 5 minor pentatonic patterns... almost like they’re CAGED 😂

Thanks for the Lesson Levi, some great approaches here for getting people into playing the changes. Though I had an interesting thought..... I think because of the STYLE of this tune It would be almost more appropriate in a real playing situation to reduce the harmony further. For example I would probably play Dmaj Pentatonic over Dmaj and Cmaj and Dmin pentatonic over Gmaj. So while what I'm describing is probably LESS effective as a practice method, but I think that's where my ears would naturally want to go.... I think this is just comes from decades of blues musicians simplifying things!! My approach might be more Angus Young while yours is a bit more in the Robben Ford school haha. Peace man! Keep rockin'

Sure - it's really a case of what the song called for. If I was recording on the actual album... this would go out the window! But if I was playing this tune in an acoustic folk setting? It would be this all day!

Oops, I just came here because of the title. I thought. Oh, wow. Cool. (Sweet) Child in Time! One of my favourite early Deep Purple songs! Oh, well. Good video anyway!
