I’m really enjoying your videos! I have begun to use a pair of coyoleras, Aztec ankle shakers from Mexico, to keep time and expand my sound while playing hand percussion. I’ll sometimes use one on one ankle and an Indian ghungroo shaker on the other for an alternating sound. And I often use LP Finger Shot shakers on one or both hands when playing congas or cajon.
Adrian, I have made my shakers from Cuban cigar tubes - after the cigars are smoked of course hehe. I dropped a few ounces of lead shot in them and then screwed the tops back on sealing them with glue. You can mix and match sounds and volume using different amounts of shot etc. They sound great.
Nothing provided more feeling than this concept. We have to learn to appreciate the odd discomfort of independence. A couple of approaches: ... walk the pulse and use one instrument .... listen to first instrument before adding a second ... yes 'say before you play' as always. ... get a friend for practice .... GET OUT THAT METRONOME Enjoy.
