Thank you all for your questions, feedback, and ideas for this application! So far here are some of the best ideas I have gathered from you guys: 1) DGT3000 clock displaying move times 2) board giving you options to resign, offer draws, search for games, and use more Lichess functionalities 3) implementing a different kind of board that can move the opponents pieces by itself If you have any more ideas, please do not hesitate to reply to this comment. I will make sure to keep you guys updated on this channel.
Nice program! Very generous of you to take time to develop free software for us DGT Board users and chess lovers. I will say that I came across an issue with your program that could be easily fixed. Basically, I have two registered boards in the livechess app, but your program doesn't iterate throughout the available boards and only selects the first board in the array. I tried to remove the first registered board in livechess app, but the app doesn't let you remove the board for some reason. It's an easy fix and I even saw you had a "todo" comment saying to add that in.
Quick tip for anyone using Brave web browser: you need to disable Brave shields for lichess to get it working, otherwise you'll get a "Websocket ERROR: Websocket to LiveChess disconnected" error.
Any DGT E-Board will work, I suggest you get the Bluetooth one with Indexes if you can afford it, if not, go with the Smart Board which is the cheapest.
Take the Walnut board with Bluetooth (otherwise you cannot link it with mobile devices) and the Timeless Pieces. That's the combination used in pretty much all official tournaments. I own that combination myself and I love it! The pieces look and feel amazing. Worth every Cent
Hey Juan, very good job! Is it possible to display the moves on the DGT 3000 clock. This would be perfect, because there is no more need to look to the monitor.
Now that’s BIG BRAIN!! The technology for this already exists in a board called Square Off, all thats left is for it to be implemented into lichess so you can use it against other online players
SquareOff is not the first. There is other similar board in the past. You also will get the same mechanical problems. Big problem with mechanical board like SquareOff is slow speed. U can only enjoy play Classic game(30 min). With Rapid game(15 or 10 min) is just to slow. The opponent clock is stop after made a move. You clock is running but you must wait the machine to move the pieces. Even play with DGT is to slow for me. Always end up with 1/2 of the opponent time. I must first listen to the notation and searching the squares. Maybe because i a beginner/novice player, i cannot act faster. That is why i end up getting Millennium exclusive board + Bluetooth module with their phone app. You can concentrate more on the board and less looking on the PC screen. You can react the opponent movement faster. Because the board tells you the movements with led lights on the board. No need to listen and searching. But as always each product has their own drawbacks. Millennium boards doesn't support Chess.com. Or maybe not yet.
Yes, you're a very clever and helpful programmer....but PLEASE no music next time you post an instruction video where we need to hear every one of your words. Thank you.
Great job Juan! Would it be possible to support the DGT3000 clock as well for moves and time? That would be awesome. You would not need to look at the site for info anymore during games. If I can help in any way testing, let me know!
Very complicated ...You can use DGT board on other sites. Having to have two Lichess programs is confusing . Hopefully, there will be a work around on that aspect.
I agree. Maybe to fix this I could make it so that you can start games, offer a draw, resign, give more time, etc. using just the board so that you only need to have the configuration open. I also need to make it so that you can see the time on the configuration tab or on the dgt chess clock
Thanks. Great video. I just bought the dgt eboard and the 3000 clock. I connected them to lichess but I can't use the clock. The dashboard works perfectly but I only see the screen with the codes and the audio. I have to open two lichess tabs like you showed in the video? Thanks. Greetings from Uruguay
Hola! Me he comprado un segundo tablero DGT, y veo que el oauth token de lichess va vinculado al número de serie de mi primer tablero. He buscado por todas partes pero no encuentro la forma de cambiarlo! Es posible hacerlo???? Mil gracias.
I am using a wired connection and get the error No Connection to event stream. Attempting re-connection. attempt:1. No connection to event stream after maximum number of attempts 20. Reload page to start again connectToEventStream - Event Stream ended by server
No because you would need to have LiveChess installed on your iPad for this to work. Currently, LiveChess is available on Windows 7, MacOS 10 and Linux distributions such as Debian 8, Ubuntu 16.04 and RedHat Linux 6 (as well as any later versions of these operating systems)
@@juanandrescavallin6107 Have you tested with MacOS? Looking at buying a new laptop, but I prefer Mac to Windows. Thanks for the work you have done, it is excellent! :D
Merci
Hello, Thanks you for your video. I have questions for u... 1) I have a very basic video, but how do you know which move your opponent plays ? Do you need for each move to look at the computer ? 2) Why do you suggest the bluetooth one ? What are "indexes" ? I dont know what its mean. I would like to play on a real board ( same used as in competition FIDE), but without to look at each opposent move the screen. I hope you will see my message, regards !
Well i have DGT usb bord and recently got a Millennium exclusive luxe board+Bluetooth module. Each has own drawbacks. With DGT bluetooth board you can easily connect to your Android phone and PC(only, as far i know). Without it you need connect the board with the usb cable trough a usb hub/adapter(kinda messy). Beware some cheap hub/adapter wont work!. Indexes mean the letters and numbers printed on the side. Its to navigate the opponent movements easily. You need to manually move the opponent pieces by your self. People buy this e-boards because they want play at a real board and less looking on pc screen. Each opponent movements will be announce by sound. For example after you move white pawn in front of your king(e2-e3), your apponent moves his black pawn in front of his queen(d7-d6). You will hear from your phone/laptop speakers "Pawn to d6" or "D seven to D six"(depends on the settings). In my opinion its still not easy to connect to a PC/laptop. To much messy with the software, less plug and play. And also still beta version. DGT board can only be use at Chess.com with PC/laptop only. Phone or tablet app only support Lichess.com(yet). Millennium board still wont work on Chess.com(PC and app). In my opinion only suitable play Rapid longer then 8 minutes on both boards(10 and 15 minutes). It is easier to connect to a Android phone(with app). DGT boards: Yes it is real competition size board with more pieces model available. You can use free or paid app on Android market. - Acid Ape chess + DGT driver. You must pay for both. if i can remember 20 for the app and 50/60 bucks for the driver. After you install the app you will get a massage from Acid app that you need to buy and install the driver. Is the best App out there. But expensive. You will hear the opponent movement(if settings turn on). Or just looking at the screen(but is not the idea to get a e-board). - Chess for Android free app(by Aart J.C. Bik). You can install chess engine/computer (also from Google Play) and play against it with this app and connecting with cable or bluetooth. My problem with DGT boards. I can only enjoy play Classic games(30 minutes). For Rapid games(15 or 10 minutes) its just to slow. Always losing time. Because i must listen then navigate and then move the opponent pieces. Maybe because iam a beginner/novice player. Cannot react fast enough. Need a special table with 2 chair to setup. Big board is difficult to turn around if you must play black. Cannot play quietly, must turn on the sound(opponent moves). Millennium exclusive luxe board (bluetooth&powerbank included): No it is not a competition size board. But not to small in my opinion. Also wood board and pieces. No other chess pieces model available(or yet). - Millennium ChessLink app. Free app from the company(Lichess only). No need to pay extra for driver. Easy to setup. - Chess for Android free app(by Aart J.C. Bik). Same info above. - HIARCS chess program Iphone/ Ipad app only. - HIARCS explorer chess program for PC or Mac. Free with this luxe model. Only with Mac version you can connect with bluetooth. Windows version only with usb cable(usb B to A). Cable not included. Big improvement when playing Rapid with this board. This board has LEDs to shows the opponent movements. You can concentrate more on the board. And react faster to move your opponent pieces. I losses much less time with this board. No need to turn on the sound. So i can play quietly. Easier to turn the board around to play black than DGT. So for me: Play again chess engine(DGT pi) or studiy chess using DGT board. Play on Lichess.com using Millennium chess board. And study chess using the HIARCS software. So its up to you. Are you really need that FIDE competition feels and cannot play without it?. And mostly running out of time online?. Or you just want play on Lichess.com with free phone app?. And can enjoy Rapid game?.
Hey Juan! I have a very specific problem: I have two DGT boards. Your software recognizes both without any problems, but Lichess only accepts the first one I used. If I plug in (they are bluetooth but I am using the usb cable) the other one, it‘s not working. Lichess lists both in the DGT Play window (the first one as inactive, the second one correctly as active), the port is correct and if I move pieces, it even shows up in the text format after „board“. But if I start a game I cannot move a piece. Any idea what I am doing wrong?
You're not doing anything wrong. I have the same issue you're having since I also have two boards-- it only works on lichess if I plug in the first board, but the second board doesn't register moves at all. Other sites don't have this problem, and it's definitely not the livechess app's fault. So I looked at the code, I am a software developer as well, and found the issue is that they are not iterating throughout all the livechess registered boards and selecting the currently active board, but only selecting the first board it finds in the list. To try and resolve this, I tried removing the first board in the live chess app so Lichess would select the correct board, but the livechess app doesn't let you remove the board for some reason. I'm going to make a pull request to their github source code to fix this small oversight.
Same here!!!! The oauth token you install initially gets binded with the first board serial number. Have you tried creating a whole new lichess account and registering the second board to that one?
Salve a me da sempre lo stesso essore: connectToGameStream - No valid game data or Unexpected error.
This would have been a much better video without the music. I am watching this for help in connecting my board, not to listen to music...repetitive, mind-numbing music. Otherwise, great video!
Creo que con Livechess puedes configurarlo para 960 y luego en lichess activarlo también, comprobar que la posición coincide... ya nos dirás si lo conseguiste.
I have got a problem : it works when i configure an illimited time game but refuses to play when i pretend to play with clock... how do you manage to create and play a 15mns'DGT game ? Thank.
That is strange, I have not run into this problem myself. If it’s just 15 min each it’s not enough though; currently, the min time control for rated is 15+10 and for unrated any time control.
There are several things that you could try: 1) making sure LiveChess detects the moves 2) making sure that the game is detected by Lichess in the configuration section 3) making sure the board is set up correctly or matches the position where it stops detecting moves. For 2 and 3, reloading the tab could fix that problem
My personal experience: You can switch back to online, but once you have, you'd have to keep the pieces on the board in sync and to switch back to playing on the board you have to hit the "reload" option on the web page. Personally, once I switch back to online, I finish out the game and don't try to switch back.
Ebay is full of frustrated sellers that spent a lot of money on the boards and got tired of them due to the lack of compatible apps... I'd never bought mine if it wasn't for acid ape chess
Yes, for rated games. However, for casual games, any rapid time control also works, such as 10+2. This is to account for the longer time that it takes to make the moves over the board compared to online
this is overly complicated (e.g. when it didn't detect that you moved a piece and you had to refresh something) and the pieces for the other side need to move by themselves. Magnetic pieces anyone? Also there are corner cases you're talking about where you say not to take too long taking piece since it could confuse lichess. You need to fix the timings.
Several people have mentioned the magnetic pieces idea. For that you would need to use a different kind of board. I might try experimenting with implementing a Square Off board or any board that can move the pieces by itself. It definitely sounds like a great idea that would be amazing for lichess to have, as no other site has support for that.
As for the timings or having to refresh, they are not as big of a deal as I made them out to be in the video, although maybe I could reduce the delay between moves on the board and on lichess to fix this issue. You should not have a problem moving the pieces as fast as possible most of the time (the refresh tip was just in case an error occurred), except if you accidentally lift two different pieces at the same time. That I have no way of fixing
useless when having to move for your opponent.. still waiting for some magnet pieces that move on their own. you can very well just play a move on a real board and then click in lichess.org.. no need for this software
There is one big difference though, which is the TTS aspect of the program, since it means that you do not have to look at the board on lichess at all while you are playing. This makes it easier to stay accustomed to playing on a real board rather than on a screen. Sometimes when I use the DGT board, I find myself accidentally thinking while looking at the screen instead of the board even though I make the moves using the board, so this helps me to avoid doing that.
