For those who care, Völlig (or voellig) is not actually a German forename. His username is voellig schwerelos which translates to completely weightless. It might be a reference to the quite popular German song Major Tom from around 1982.

Question for higher rated players, what is the best aspect of the game to practice in order to climb from roughly 1000-1400 rating?
@pqrkymc
@pqrkymc 11 месяцев назад
1900 rapid here, for me it was openings because it stopped me from blundering early in the game by being familiar with the kinds of positions I was getting into while also being aware of the kinds of blunders my opponents could make or of plans in the positions in the middle game which arise from that opening if my opponent doesn't blunder.
@Kevinmiller835
@Kevinmiller835 11 месяцев назад
Tactics. Helps you avoid blunders, and helps start building up pattern recognition.
@kaspervercruysse5710
@kaspervercruysse5710 11 месяцев назад
This is mostly for middle games: understanding what your and your opponents goals in specific games are is quite important. Like when your opponent makes a move, think 'what are they trying to do with this/build towards?'. Pay attention to the position and where weaknesses are. This is things like noticing pieces are pinned, noticing that if a certain piece moves, you can move to a strong square or capture something, seeing what pawns or pieces you can attack and might make them uncomfortable to defend. A big way to improve this is look at the engine after you've played a game. The engine obviously sees where you should apply pressure. See what moves it suggests, and be sure to to try rationalise why these moves are good! Also I find Danya's speedrun series very very helpful in getting into this mindset of thinking about the moves and their purpose
@Kevinmiller835
@Kevinmiller835 11 месяцев назад
@@kaspervercruysse5710 should look at engine. But develops a better positional understanding, by analysing without the engine first.

50:54 no.. you don't win an exchange and No, you don't have to give up your queen Hansen!.. because you have Qb2 (queen cannot be taken by white Queen because white queen is pinned... next move you take the white queen and dont have to give up your own queen.. (obviously the move choice you played in game was better)
@jameshowarth1875
@jameshowarth1875 11 месяцев назад
But after 1...Qb2 2. Qxb4 axb4 3. Rxa8 - and black's knight on b8 is hanging with two attackers and zero defenders. Overall white trades their queen for a bishop, a rook and a knight, which seems favourable. I didn't consider Qxb4 while watching the game, but from white's perspective its the only thing worth looking at after ...Qb2. Starting FEN: "rn2k2r/1p3p1p/2p1ppb1/p7/1b1P1B2/1PQB1N2/q1PK1PPP/R6R b kq - 0 1"
