Unsure on your STYLE of singles? Well hopefully this video will point you in the right direction.
One thing massively stood out on our trip to Singapore, and that was how awesome Jia Min's movement was!!!
So we got the chance to watch her train and have a chat with her about her game and how she goes about developing her style of singles.

Very good insight in to the contrasting style of play. Great to see Ladies Singles in focus as this is clearly an area we need to develop in England. What a lovely mover she is. Explosive when needed and smooth efficient movement throughout. Enjoyed watching this very much. 👍

Great video, thanks for the insight! I absolutely love Jia Min's movement and foot work on court; it looks speedy, smooth, great stance where she has a straight upperbody. Completely agree that she doesn't make any unnecessary staps.

@@TheBadmintonZoneHQ Would you say Jia Min's style is well suited to playing a tall opponent? Flattening off lifts and clears seems advantageous (so long as the shots are fast enough not to be intercepted).
@TheBadmintonZoneHQ
@TheBadmintonZoneHQ 15 дней назад
@@TPToE yes it would be good against tall opponents assuming the lift can’t be intercepted as you mentioned. It could also be useful against deceptive players as you are giving them less time on the shuttle.

Just wondering whether you could make a tutorial on how to get good power on a flick serve??? Thanks (great video as always)

Hi, I’m normally a doubles player (played singles when I was younger) but I’ve been trying to play a bit more singles recently. I would say I have decent speed, defense, and pretty good drop shots and slice smashes. But my stamina is horrendous and I notice that I struggle in longer matches/rallies especially against players who like to lift/clear a lot and like to rally. Any strategies and things to work on? Thanks.
@TheBadmintonZoneHQ
@TheBadmintonZoneHQ 11 дней назад
Thanks for the comment. If you struggle with long rallies then it could be an idea to apply pressure right from the return of serve or 3rd shot. You may have to take on more half chances and be bold in certain positions as you are trying to cut down rally length. Use your speed to hurt people early in the rally. The other option could sometimes be hitting big lifts or clears just to give yourself a bit more time to recover and breathing space. Let us know how you get on, great to hear you’re back on the singers court 💪

I play high school badminton and they use nylon shuttles (mavis 350). I am a singles player who has decent cardio (able to play for a while without getting tired), have good hand (able to hit good shots with racket), have mediocre footwork (probably my biggest thing to work on), have mediocre shot quality and decision (choosing the best shot and making it a good one, second biggest struggle). What are some strategies when I am playing at a tournament with my strengths and weaknesses?
@TheBadmintonZoneHQ
@TheBadmintonZoneHQ 15 дней назад
An idea in the short term while you develop your weaker areas could be to focus on moving your opponent to different corners as much as possible, this will play to your strength of having decent cardio in the hope you will be able to outlast them. It doesn’t mean you have to play fast and aggressive, you can even add height to your shots but ensure you maximise the depth and width of the court. Hope that gives you something to think about, let us know how you get on. Thanks for the comment.

@@TheBadmintonZoneHQ Thank you for the tips! I'll be sure to try moving my opponent around more. I'll also be working on my short accuracy and footwork too. Appreciate it!

I have two. I'm light but strong in legs, so I'm fast around court and I have a lot of stamina, especially recovery between rallies. What I struggle with is incorporating the two, especially going from fast to slow (attack to placement) between shots (I snatch quite a few or I tighten too much on my grip when placing). I watch Ginting a lot but I'm not that strong upper body, esp smashes in singles. But my smash is much stronger in doubles?
@TheBadmintonZoneHQ
@TheBadmintonZoneHQ 15 дней назад
It sounds like you have a clear idea of your style but sometimes lack the execution and consistency you want. You maybe snatching as attacking too early or haven’t created enough space. You may find a clearer chance may present itself, you may feel more on balance or you have moved your opponent around to create more space. This may stop you snatching as much knowing you have a larger area to hit into or just feel more in control.
@SamSam-xx6dv
@SamSam-xx6dv 14 дней назад
@@TheBadmintonZoneHQ I think I snatch because i'm there too early or wrong shot selection because of this space issue? Not quite sure what you mean by space, I assume I'm too close to the shuttle. Which means, how does a player choose when to take shuttle early or later, place or pressure shot?
@TheBadmintonZoneHQ
@TheBadmintonZoneHQ 14 дней назад
@@SamSam-xx6dv it’s a balancing act for sure knowing when to build the rally and when to try and finish the rally. If your snatching at the shot when you have time and in a good position you can try and think about applying pressure to your opponent rather than hitting a winner, this may help you relax more and stop snatching as much.

I have a good defense but don't have a good attack and I am having decent speed should I work on my attack
@TheBadmintonZoneHQ
@TheBadmintonZoneHQ 13 дней назад
It would be a good plan to feel like you have the option to hit more winning shots. In the meantime keep frustrating people with your good defence, make sure you give yourself time on your lifts and clears to be able to get ready. Your speed can always be used as a good retrieval skill as well. Having a good defence and speed is a big positive, don’t be afraid to build your game around those assets and add the attack rather than feeling like you have to change your game plan completely. Hope that makes sense, thanks for watching. 👍

@TheBadmintonZoneHQ
@TheBadmintonZoneHQ 13 дней назад
They are some great assets to have. You could try using your speed to out manoeuvre your opponent, when you get a good opportunity to attack you can take it. Make sure you don’t rush your attack though and get desperate, use your speed first to create gaps or to get into a good/balanced hitting position Thanks for watching, hope you found the video useful 👍
