Olaf, you are truly a master of your craft, and I so enjoy each video. Thanks for sharing your talent and craftsmanship with us. Best wishes for continued success.
Holy cow! Yup, that is MY Salvatore Lombari Violin you just mentioned. Suffice it to say, we (the instrument and I) are becoming faat friends. It has such a sweet and warm character and the resonance is very nicely balanced across all strings. And the tuning pegs are smooth as butter. I have no alternative but to grow into a better Violin player.
How incredible to hear the first notes from such a meticulously-crafted and gorgeous instrument! (Your ebullient joy made me tearful… in a good way!) Thank you for letting us ride along for this beautiful moment!❤
Yes indeed.. an exciting day. I am so pleased to hear your beautiful creation. I’m not an expert but to me your violin sounds amazing, as good as it looks. Thanks for sharing that moment of fulfillment.
Thank you, Olaf. I really appreciate your videos. What you do is, to me, a dream career, in a dream environment. Oh, to create and repair such beautiful instruments, as you do and to play and experience the making of such sweet, wonderful, tones as does your client, whom you quoted. What a, fantastic, family legacy you have, for yourself and to pass down, to your own offspring. I do envy you. Yes, music is, indeed, an emotional thing. Good wishes, to you and your family, for your personal and professional well being and future. 😁✌🖖
I appreciate your showing us when you are sharpening your tools. This step is vastly important and I am still working on consistently producing a fine, sharp edge. More practice is needed on my part I'm afraid.
@@mellissadalby1402 keep at it, You'll get there... In the end you'll get a good feel for it. For me it's focusing on removing the burr each time I turn it around.
LOL you work bench looks like my tiny workspace I have at my home. A place well used where magic happens. So great to see your new violin. I'm so interested in the building process for violins and quite possibly its improvements. You won me over with the hyde glue though LOL.
Hi Olaf, Thank you for identifying the types of oils you are using in those two cases. I had heard from other Violin makers to use Linseed oil (Sundried boiled Linseed oil) on the neck, but the synthetic Paraffin is new to me. It makes sense though.
I am very much enjoying my new Salvatore Lombardi Violin (built 2020, from Olaf Grawert Violin Studios). It feels progressively more comfortable to me and we (the instrument and I) are getting along splendidly. I love the tonal balance and predictable resonances. The set up makes it effortless to play, so I end up neglecting my other Violins (sorry).
I guess my ears are not tuned to tell the difference between a fine violin and an average violine and a Vso. I have and play an Anton Breton (10 thousand pawnshops can’t be wrong) and I love the sound. Of course I play a fiddle not a violin😁
How many violins have you made Olaf? I feel like we have seen previous videos of you making a violin from the ground up. I know you are incredibly busy taking care of all your customers, so I was just curious where you find the time and how many actual Olaf Grawert violins have been made. I know you work with your makers to design all the instruments you sell, but that is different from a true Olaf Grawert instrument. I tried to make my own violin once without any training, but in the end I just went to Aldi and bought one.
