Work on short angled overheads, too. Those are undefendable. I usually hit a few deep overheads. If they continue coming back, I'll go to a shorter angle or a drop volley. If the opponent reaches the drop volley ball, it's usually popped up for the final put away. It's usually a two shot volley.

Should also teach to angle that drop cross court. My friends and i do it pretty often and if executed correctly, os a winner everytime. Of course, it doesn't go as plan and it goes in the net,wide or goes too far out that they can run it down. Plus disguising the shot works too so it makes them think you're gonna hit deep and mire often its a winner.

Hi Zane, did you mention what grip you were using to hit that shot? If yes, I missed it, and of course, admit I'm too lazy to rewatch. I use an eastern grip that borders on continental, but the more eastern, the more spin on the backhand side. Love the videos and information! Thanks for taking the time to do them.

I didn't explain! I'm not changing my grip for the shot. It's a continental!

I like to angle my drop shot so it dies even closer to the net than if I hit it right in front of me.

That's mastery if you consistently get it like that. Well done if so.

I do this shot. Without lowering the grip pressure, I don’t think my version of this drop volley would be any good!

If it bounces back over the net on your side, isn’t considered their point (or equivalent to whoever is serving)?
@ZaneNavratilPickleball
@ZaneNavratilPickleball Год назад
Nope! They need to hit the ball! When it bounces back, it would be the point of the person who hit it.

I need to learn this shot. I think I’d be a natural. Most of my shots are not designed to win the point I’m playing.

Great video, but the only thing I disagree with is you saying not to use this shot to win the point. It depends who you are playing. I'm 58 and most of my same age opponents can't return the volley drop when they are pinned back. You young bucks can get to it but not the older ones!

I don’t know who this is directed at when you say don’t expect to win the point.,I win most points when I do this. Players rushing the net usually hit the ball out.,

Lol 90% of players shouldn’t do this…and CANT do this effectively or even close to consistently. Unless you’re a high level player, don’t even bother….

I agree with this. I'm progressing a lot and set up my ball machine to practice this with 60 balls coming at me at drive speed. I got like 5 my first go round that were decent and maybe landed 5 short. Rest were too long or in the net or out. It's a hard shot to master consistently and it's usually better to punch deep. I'm going to keep working at it though and Zane's use of it to play with their mind on shot selection is smart.
