Imo, I know what your saying about Smith and the drastic change from 2 to below 16, but being realistic he hasn’t preformed like a world no. 2 for a year and a half, the world championship has been keeping him in there but if he doesn’t get a run somewhere he doesn’t deserve to be around the top for rankings as he hasn’t been playing to that standard for a while

Yeah exactly this, so maybe a slowly decreasing prize fund would make a more realistic approach. Then again it’s already complicated as it is 🤣

I don't think Smith will be dropping below 16th. Sure, he has to defend a $60k European Championship, $153k Grand Slam of Darts and $500k World Championship. He will be running deep in some of them if not all of them. Smith is often performing better at the end of the year for some reason so don't count him out just yet.

Controversial opinion, Smith should never have been ranked that high, the worlds is weighted too heavily and Bully boy is the perfect example of it. Play out of your skin for two tournaments and you’re world number two for two years. The amount of finals he reached meant he was going to win one eventually, law of averages. Yeah you could argue making that many finals consistently shows his consistent form, but his inability to close games out and win shows he’s not #2 material. A world #2 should win a far higher % of their games than Smith ever did. They call him Bottle boy for a reason

Great to see the quality *AND* quantity of content on the channel recently 👏 I think Michael Smith will find a run somewhere in the next few months, but not enough to stay in the top 4. I think he’ll drop down to somewhere between 7-11 in the OOM come the first week of January.

I like the defending money system. What happened two years can drop off, doesn't tell anything about the current form anymore

On the ranking system RE: smith going from 2nd possibly to much lower (much like Wright a year ago) this can happen with a worlds win and poor form. I suppose one way around it is to lower the worlds prize money (which won’t happen) OR increase the other majors wining money, I think this would benefit the ranking system. Suppose the noise around the Sky contract and the Hearns wanting more money maybe they could increase money into the other majors.

I like the fact that the matches in the Grand prix are starting on a double. This shows real skill and I'd love to see a 9 darter or two starting on the double. Great video as always Matt thanks 👍❤

It’s not overnight (fall in rankings) really though is it? It’s only looks that way when playing inconsistently and not picking up wins in the intervening two years to this point.

I use the tour card race and also the year-to-date money list as realistic form ranking guides. A two year order of merit ranking system with no additional weighting attached to more recent results is frankly a joke.

The Grand Prix is the first event I’m attending (Wednesday if anyone’s wandering) is there anything i should know before as someone who has spent the last few years watching and learning as much about the game as possible but never been to an event

Hi Matthew Have been to a number of events (not Grand Prix though) How about the following * Have fun * Hate people who whistle or boo - but cheer * Play to the cameras do a witty sign and you might get on tv * Don't mess with the bouncers * You don't have to get plastered to enjoy it * Make friends with your table mates * If standing by the walk on let young kids go in front of you to high 5 the players * Be prepared for a late finish * Go early & visit the on site bookies - there are often good freebies such as t shirts on offer and stuff on your table to take It's a brilliant night out and really exciting enjoy it.

The worlds is weighted far too heavily. Smith was and has never been winning consistently enough to justify world #2, and Clemens was never the best German player all the whilst Schindler was playing in my eyes, he just had a good run in the most important tournament.

Big fan of Micheal Smith but he has done nothing since winning the worlds so no surprise he is about to plummet in the rankings. Basically did nothing last year and apart from his run to the matchplay semis not much in ranking events this year either.
