After a morning round at my home club in Salem, I drove 50 minutes SE down Interstate 5 to play Mallard Creek Golf Course for the first time.
Mallard Creek is located outside the city of Lebanon, Oregon and is roughly 20-25 minutes east of I-5. The course was built in rural country where the eastern Willamette Valley begins to transition into the foothills of the Cascade mountain range. There is a fair amount of elevation change throughout the course, especially on the back 9, and plenty of ponds, creeks, brooks, and marshy environmental areas. If you like playing surrounded by wildlife, Mallard Creek should be on your list.
There is a small but well accommodated RV park at the entrance of the course that makes this a perfect stop for golfers on a RV roadtrip.
There is a full size practice range, complete with separate putting and chipping greens. Power carts are available for rental. If you are on the putzy, out-of-shape side, you should strongly consider a cart, at least for the back 9.
The pro-shop/clubhouse is relatively new as of this date and is fully stocked with apparel, shoes, golf accessories, some clubs (I think I saw some clubs), and lots of souvenir swag. It is also fully stocked with all the beer, wine, seltzer, cider, soda options you may want, as well as a fully stocked bar for mixed drinks. There are some standard food options for a quick pre/mid/post round bite to eat.
I was in a bit of a hurry to get back home, but if I hadn't been, I definitely would have taken the time to enjoy a drink and something to eat on the large patio with territorial views of the course and an upclose view of the action on the 9th and 18th greens.
