I am just your typical golf-obsessed guy working to improve at the game I love. I practice and play out of the Willamette Valley in Oregon.
This RU-vid channel is really just a fun little hobby within a hobby. Making videos is a fun way to assess my on course performance and/or show off some of the great courses in Oregon that don't get the hype of Bandon or Pronghorn, and I make the videos primarily for myself and for those purposes. But I also understand that there are those (like me) who just like to watch people golf, good or bad. If you are one of those people, please feel free to subscribe, or like, or comment, or even all three.
I'm not trying to build a brand or monetize or play RU-vid algorithm games. I'm just here for the good times and being a part of the golf community!
I sure appreciate you showing all of your rounds-good and bad. Helps me understand that i’m not the only one who struggles and gives me hope too. Also, I love your swing. Fluid, smooth and graceful, just like your hurdling form.
Hey, thanks! I have no illusions of shooting in the 70's every round at this point, but it feels good to validate my feeling that I certainly have the skills to do so if I can keep it together. Thanks for watching.
Do you think your filming and talking through the shots helped slow down and improve your shot selections? Strong mental (see TacoGolf!) on not losing it after the first double appeared on the card! I hope you shoot in the 70s again soon 👌
Filming is a bit of a distraction, but I am definitely the type who plays better loose and talking, so I think having the camera to talk to when I'm playing solo certainly helps me. Even when I'm not filming I will say all the same stuff outloud (lie, distance, intent) because it seems to help me. I've also been reading up quite a bit on the mental side (expectations, mindset, gratitude, etc.) and I think I even mention it at one point in the video. It certainly helped shake off the double and really came into play down the stretch, especially after that horrible approach into the tall grass on 18. Strong mental. Actual. Lion. OKEH! (big fan of Taco from early on)
One under through 3, I thought I was on the wrong channel for a second. 😂 All kidding aside, fantastic round and congrats on breaking that milestone! I hope you bought that lottery ticket!
Hey, I thought I was on the wrong channel for the next 15 holes! I forgot to buy that lotto ticket because I couldn't wait to get home and look at the video.
Congrats! I shot a 78 on June 18th, also my first time to break 80. The closest I’ve come since is an 80, but that was only two days later on an easier course. Too often I’m just a couple of bad shots or a blow up hole or two away. The grind continues!
That's great, both the 78 and 80. I guess what they say is true, scoring isn't about making more birdies (although they're fun), scoring is about eliminating the blow up holes. Good luck out there!
@@503Mike I’ve got my post notifications on for your channel. I didn’t play my best but had lots of fun. Sorry for any holdups that my two goofball friends caused 😅
Thanks. I just need more of those! The next time I played that front 9 I had 4 birdies and shot 42. Only problem is I started with a disastrous 11!! Thanks for watching
Thanks, Mark. Definitely some positive things to take away from that 9 if not the score. I think I lost mic early because I put my phone into standby between shots to save battery and that probably means I need to reconnect the mic each time. I need to test that out before going out next time.
You putt right handed? I never noticed 🤣😂 I messed around with the idea of putting and playing left handed for awhile. I can hit a decent shot left handed every once in awhile, comes from my baseball/softball days of switch hitting. Hole 5 😳, those are the holes that make you want to quit golf at times 😆but the Birdie you had earlier in the round is what keeps us coming back.
Yes to everything you said. Birdies are fun. My favorite is when I'm playing with a stranger or someone I haven't played with before and they aren't paying close attention until maybe hole 14 or 15, and then they ask "did you just putt that right handed?" As if I've been putting left up until then.
Welcome back Mike! Been so long since I filmed a round of golf. I just recently took a trip to Northern Ireland and had plans of playing (and filming), but it didn't work out 😕Your putting was pretty solid for the most part on this round.
If it were less of a hassle I'd record a lot more, but now I just wait until I get the bug to do it and circumstances line up for me to play solo. Putting has been pretty solid for a while now. It's the strongest part of my game for sure. And I've been watching your fishing vids. I don't even fish outside of an annual drift boat fly fishing trip with the company, but they're relaxing to watch.
@@503Mike Thanks man I appreciate it! I just had someone comment asking if I was ever going to do another golf video, and I need to, but it takes like 2 times as much effort to do it. But I just need to stop being lazy. One of these days when I get back up to Oregon we will need to get a round in.
Thank you. I use ShotTracer Pro app on Mac. I think the only other solid alternative is to use AfterEffects in the Adobe suite, but I don't have the suite so...
Oh wow, thank you! It's weird that my lowest effort video when I just decided to be me on camera is doing the best so far. Glad you liked it and motivated by your comment to continue to step a bit out of my comfort zone in terms of the kind of videos I create moving forward. Thanks again, it really does mean a lot.
Yeah, I played off and on as a kid and younger adult as right-handed golfer but lefty full swing felt more natural after one range bucket, so I switched in my mid-20's. The putter still felt right to me playing right-handed, so I kept it. For the first couple of years I continued to hit all my wedges righty too, basically any sort of feel shot took a long time to switch from right to left-handed. It didn't help that I played maybe 4-5 times a year with a single range session thrown in for fun. Thanks for watching!
I don’t know if it’s the course or me, but I have a hard time thinking of a course that isn’t relaxing or have the potential to be. I don’t take myself too seriously, so maybe that’s what makes it relaxing? The course does get full. This was shot on a Thurs night (6:40 tee time) and men’s league was on the front, so a lot of the golfers who would be out there were concentrated on one side. Thanks for watching!
Sometime in mid-to-late May. I only know that because pretty much any video I shoot I turn it around within a week. The weather can be a little bit hit and miss then, but it was definitely a hit for this round.
I'm not totally clear what you mean, but I can say that regardless of what you mean the answer is no. If you mean does performance change if you cut the old grip off and don't remove the old tape before blowing the new grip on, then no. If you mean do I think having grip tape under my grips changes performance, then the answer is also no. The reason I stripped the old tape off before putting on the new grips was to make taking future grips off and on easier. In this video I regripped my wife's clubs. I did mine right after this and neither of us has had a single issue with our grips since then (although they are getting worn out). It takes me less than 10 minutes to swap out an entire set of grips and I can immediately hit balls with them. Not sure why I'd ever mess with tape again.
@@503Mike sorry, I guess I should’ve been more clear! My question is - even though you’re not supposed to put tape / solvent on pure grips, would it affect how it adheres if you did? Just seems too good to be true to use no tape or solvent :)
Got it! I don't think using tape with Pure grips would make any difference unless you used multiple layers to build up the grip size. Tapeless grips is also not unique to Pure, you can use the method with any grip. There are even old episodes of TXG doing club fittings and blowing different grips on without tape. Pretty handy method IMO.@@dead_prez7266
Dude, that sunset on the last hole would make for a beautiful thumbnail. I'd like to see a score tracker after each hole so i know how your doing during the round. Also, so relatable to hear someone say "i hate this game" during a round. i say that at least 5 times per round. ✌
I took several photos on 18, but none of them really translated what my eyes were seeing. It was gorgeous and I immediately assumed I'd get a sweet thumb from it, but alas. Skipped stroke tracking for no particular reason other than I didn't feel like putting any more time into this video (lazy sloth). It's my first in a while and I was trying to remember all the tricks and shortcuts that made the last several so much easier to put together. I'm sure I'll go back to score tracking by hole once I start recording at the new club.
My wife and I are joining another club in town with several other couples. The new club is a course I've played many times, but I've only posted one really bad video of the front 9 (Creekside). My plan is to record at the new club, but probably keep my videos short and easier to manage. I'm doing this for fun, so less work is better.
@@503Mike Oh very cool! That's awesome you have others with you at the club. I was a member for one year at one private course but it ended up being kind of a let down. It was great being able to play a nice course freely, but it got boring playing just by myself. And I would be spending extra money playing other courses with my friends, cause the guest fee at my course was just too high and not worth that price. Looking forward to those future videos!
In the words of Simple Minds, alive and kickin'! I've played a lot of golf between my last post and now, some bad, and quite a bit good, but I was playing at times not conducive to recording. I've actually been eyeing the week before Thanksgiving to fire it back up. In the meantime I'm trying desperately to get out of the mega-slump of the last 5 weeks of play. I shot my course best of 81, only to follow it up with several rounds in the high 90's and 100+. Gross.
I usually make it over at least once during the late spring for a round at one or the other, but didn't get to this year. They really are both great courses, but Big Meadow is probably my favorite of the two. Unfortunately, word from about a month ago was that Big was in rough shape due to the extended winter we had. Hopefully it's recovered by the time you get there. Black Butte Ranch is awesome, so enjoy!
There's a certain poetry to missing the 3 foot birdie putt on 18 to shoot a 90 on a "break 90" video, but I would have gladly taken the 89. I went out and shot 87 the following day... with no camera.
The Grint tells me the same thing (36 hdcp) on driving accuracy of 46% It’s funny Garmin says I’m way above average with driver compared to my handicap… 🤷♂️
I don't know about you, but we were really surprised how uncrowded the course was. We golfed in the prime tee slot and neither waited nor rushed. Great stuff. I've had two eagles this year and didn't capture either on camera. Pfft...
@@503Mike We played an afternoon round and never had a group pressing up behind us and only had to wait on the group in front a few times, but that group was my brother in law and his boys, so couldn't get mad at them 😂.
