According to the Lichess database, you'll see the open Sicilian only about 25 - 30% of the time at the intermediate level; that means a lot of Bowdlers, Closed Sicilians, Smith-Morras, Alapins, etc coming your way too. 10:20 correct me if i'm wrong, but i don't think the knight was even threatening your queen on d7. if Nxd7, you have Rxd7, Ndf1, Rxf1#. So i think you may have even had Re6.
