Playing PS1 Games On PS2 VS PS3 - Affro's Curiosities

Both have Advantages and disadvantages. ps3: - plug and play, no need for extra parts. - wireless controller - has HDMİ output natively - Looks smoother -you can play ps3 games too! -Easier to use and easier to customize Ps2: -You can use ps1 memory cards and accesoires, there is lots of them. -Reset button! -Looks crisper -You can go back to natural look - And you can play ps2 games too! -anti allising at some games

For the PS2, you could always just grab an old CRT from your grandad's house ;) I want to get into PS1 games later this year (I was a Saturn boy back then) and am going to use a Vita. I hear the emulation is good, and the small screen is much more forgiving of 32-bit era 3D graphics. Plus I'll be able to play it on my commute.

I use my ps1 with Luma scart and an odv-gbs-c along with a mclassic and 1440p hdmi edid. It looks awesome.

I use Elgato game capture so i can use a component adaptor to capture my ps3. I was wondering if HDMI is any better than component and wanted to ask how you got around the HDCP on ps3 consoles.

The ps2 has a smoothing option that looks good on a crt for 3d games or 3d elements. I wish the ps3 had it.

You already know I go the PS3 route. Once you get the HDMI splitter working right, captures are easy. It's good to know there are other options though. I feel the PS2 choice could work great as long as you're willing to do some adjusting per game. Btw, did you know there's remaster of the early Tony Hawk games coming out on PS4?

, I hooked up my ps3 via HDmi to my hdtv and put a ps1 game in and without smoothing looks really bad basically unplayable. Smoothing is ok but still kinda blurry or dark I only tested Resident evil original which is kinda dark. I forgot to try this...my hdtv has a component input and it came with an adapter, what if I put my hdretrovision ps2/ps3 cables in the adapter into my hdtv? Would it look better than on the hdmi source of the tv? Even with smoothing off? I'm going to test it anyway

After collecting for over 5 years i switched to emulation... But i missed having de original games so i started collecting again and playing on PS3 but damn... Coming from emulation it just looks outright bad on a big screen now

Is there a comparison for just regular PS2 without the thingamajig vs PS3?

Is there a way to make PS1 games play better on an HD TV. Would a PS3 console fix this? Please elaborate.

From my experience the PS3 does provide a slightly more slicker gameplay than the PS2 but some of the games I made through the Net Yaroze console works best on the PS2.

Kind of odd you're so harsh on the graphics for The Italian Job. Those graphics actually look really good for a PS1 game to me...

Like you say the thing is, you can buy a PS3 just with the money that cost a good scaler... And get to play PS3 as a bonus. Scalers are way too overpriced.

Nice demonstration, thank you! For the purity sake I'd go with PS2 70** and earlier. From what I read if it's not 100% harware bc it's like 95% maybe only smth to do with the sound if even that. If you don't care all that much about that both ps2 75** and up and ps3 do damn good job with software bc. And if you go with ps2 route for ps1 bc and still want to have smth like ps3 you may not bother hunting down that phat launch ps3 or even trying to fix it. You can go with one of the slimmer more power-efficient and reliable models. Especially since, again, for purity sake, from what I read even phat ps3 isn't full hardware bc. If I remember correctly it has to emulate smth about sound and still some cpu instructions (I'm still talking about launch model, not the "hybrid-emu" model, I know about that one). Also it kind of bugs me that in comparison to ps2 that hardware sits there doing nothing while not emulating ps2 games (some people still joke about basically the same thing regarding SPUs in some ps3 games, yes-yes, haha) and doesn't provide performance boost (like 9th gen for 8th gen games and wii u for wii and gc (I believe wii also does to gc titles marginally)). Also, small nitpick regarding ONLY launch PS3 - even though in had hdmi from the start unlike x360, some of the port's specs actually weren't fully finalized for the launch and bizzarely it doesn't support lpcm 7.1, only encoded, I think, which is still great just a touch easier/better on later models. BTW for PS4 games I'd still go PS4 pro and not PS5 - that gen is still incoplete and better version of that console may still drop plus no toslink and I still think that soldered storage solution must be illegal. Smaller things - I don't think I fully trust liquid metal in ps5 and I'd go through the trouble of applying paste instead; ps4 is already freshly jailbroken while ps5 isn't; no 3d tv suppprt for games and blurays on ps5.

So, PS3 is better to use on a HDTV, but if plugging into a CRT PS2 would be better?

But the thing is!!! Did you use run of the mill ps3? Or Fully hardware compatible PS3, you know the good ol’fat ones with 4 usb ports and the right serial number.

Thing is.. your PS2 footage is only progressive scan because you applied your solution to the PS3 interlacing to your originally interlaced PS2 video feed. In other words; it's interlaced on both systems, you just deinterlaced one but not the other? At the end of the day, both the PS2 and particularly the PS3 give an authentic an experience as possible when emulating PS1. Both are quite capable of forcing progressive scan on PS1 games, they just don't. The PS3 PS1 backwards-compatibility is even a little stripped back compared to the bc on PS2, since you cant do texture smoothing or faster loading times on PS3. In the end - PS2 is the way to go purely because you can use all the PS1 accessories. All PS2s emulate the PS1 GPU in software, regardless.
