3:49 Actually, you can use the Map with a Gamecube Controller. • First, open the Pause Menu, then scroll down to Options. • Select the Controls menu, then scroll all the way to the bottom under the tab Map Controls. • Then turn on D-pad Up to open map. (Not with Joy-Con sideways). With it enabled, you can access the map screen by pressing D-Pad Up on your Gamecube Controller. Climb Faster: • Hold Y, and move with your control stick, to climb faster. (Does not work on the ground, unless you capture a certain enemy who has dash controls, or become an 8-bit wall painting thing.) Also, Capture Controls: Downward Capture: • Jump, then Ground Pound, then hit the throw button when you hit the ground. Spin Attack Capture: • Spin Mario with the control stick, by circling it around till he begins to spin, then hit the throw button. If you hold the capture button down for either moves, Cappy will stay there for a certain period of time, or spin around you for a longer period of time. Upward Capture as of right now, I cannot seem to figure out, when I do, I'll try to remember to post it here.
You can't change everything, But all the way to the bottom of the controls section of the Options menu, there's a setting you can change which brings up the map with Up on the D pad
That's really strange when has a game ever let you use up on the d pad to activate your map most games I played use Z or select or sometimes start some Xbox games used the bottom left shoulder button LT
They planned for this to happen. Watch the newest rocket league video on Nintendos Channel. They just hinted at smash 4 on switch. (The company that made rocket league said that the switch was a good system because of Mario and SMASH and, there's people playing smash 4 in the background.
You can bring up the map using the gamecube controller,go into options and go all the way down and an option to move the map to up on the d-pad appears enable it and youre done I hate asking for likes but like so others can see
You CAN bring up the brochure map, but not the power moon lists and stuff. Just go to controls and activate the option to open the brochure with "up" on the D-Pad.
you know I'm actually surprised that Nintendo just hasn't made a GameCube controller rerelease for the switch I know its early but even 3rd party controllers with all hte buttons of the new switch controller. It sell wouldn't it esp when smash bros comes out. has any one jury-rigged a procontroler in to a game cube layout?

Eric Alex Anderson the only thing I want for the joycons are extensions. No one has made them yet and playing MARIO I really notice the lack of precise control. Well that's a lie I actually noticed it in snipper clips so much concentration to move slowly and not fly across where you wanted to be.
The Jeidi Nintendo ACCIDENTALLY added gamecube controller compatibility,nintendo didnt even know this was possible until they saw fans on twitter using it.
guys dont worry you can use thirdparty adapters you dont need a wii u one i have a complete off brand and it works trust me you dont need a wii u adapter
It’d be incredible if Nintendo could add gamecube controller recognition entirely for controller mapping on the Switch. It’d be SO SO nice to play with a legacy controller in as natural a way as possible
Good thing there will be wireless gamecube controllers and hopefully there will be a capture button and zr and zl buttons and HD rumble (kinda like a switch pro controller but better )
Just bought and played it today, want to thank you guys for showing some awesome gameplay that made me want to try it out. Also, even though there was spoil drama, still cant wait to watch more videos based on this game.
Too bad since the Wii U they switched the ZL/ZR and L/R buttons positions. I tried the GC controller on Mario Odyssey but the fact that the crouch/long jump button is mapped on Z instead of L is very disturbing.
You can bring the brochure menu with the GameCube Controller, however, to do so requires you to go to the physical brochure in the Odyssey, although you still cannot warp.
Actually, I have a correction for you: In the game's option menu, in controls, you can enable the option to open the map by pressing the up button (up on the dpad). Nintendo probably knew that would be an issue.
It's just like Sunshine, except not anything like Sunshine, control-wise. Z is crouch, and Y/X is Cappy? Please Nintendo, custom button configurations in all your new games, OTHER than Smash and Kirby, would be a godsend for all these multiple controller options.
i feel like Nintendo should make an option in the system settings so that you can map buttons on any switch compatible controllers (especially with mayflash)
andry ferrebus Yes it can. I have been playing it with my sister. I am using the split joy cons to control mario while she uses the GC controller to control cappy.
note: to connect the gamecube controller, go to find controllers and wait for a couple seconds, go to the home screen and press any button on the gamecube controller, and thats it, the method that they used will not work!!!
CORRECTION! YOU CAN STILL ACCESS THE MAP USING THE GAMECUBE CONTROLLER! Their is an option in the settings to bring it up by pressing up on the D-pad ;-}
Yeah. A cool thing, but not ideal. The button placement is all wrong. I'm pretty sure Nintendo just added GC controller support for the inevitable release of Smash Bros, and maybe the GC Virtual Console, if that still ends up being a thing.

Oh so it gotta be official gamecube adapter :/ My mayflash one only works in PC mode, but as a pokken tournament controller (analog stick is recognized as a d-pad)
Apparently the Mayflash GameCube adapter doesn't work. I tried plugging it in multiple ways (single USB, both, switched around) and nothing. The only way it works is by switching to "PC" mode and then the buttons are mapped incorrectly. Oh well.
