I almost bought a Godin guitar before buying my Fender Player strat. They are gorgeous! I watched an interview with the owner, Robert Godin, as he led the interviewer through his factory. It was refreshing to see someone so passionate about his guitars and he was knowledgeable about every step of the manufacturing process and the quality of the woods used. I think a Godin is still in my future...

I think we all have a "list" of guitar brands we want to own a model from. For me, the big one on my list is a Gibson Standard. The next after that is a Godin. Anytime I have been shopping for a guitar where a Godin would work, I either had a similar model in mind, or they were out of stock.

The Session was better than any MIM Strat I ever tried (but I could not pass up on the offer). The Core’s fit & finish is fantastic & it is every bit as good as any Gibson single cut I have played. I am happy with my Core & do not think I will ever replace it as it is everything I want in a guitar.

I played that exact model at L&M during the Canada day sale through a Revv G20 and the Traynor Darkhorse 212 (All Canadian rig). I was blown away but at 3k it was out of my budget. I ended up getting the model with the Seymour Duncans instead at a local store for less than half the price. It doesn't have a flame top but it does have a beautiful grain with the crème brûlée finish (cherry burst looking). I had just played a 6000$ Gibson Les Paul that had left me thoroughly unimpressed, and the Summit made my playing better. It just has that magic I guess. I'll concede what you said about the resale value though. I'm glad you finally showcased another Godin, I've been pretty vocal about wanting to see some on your channel, and you picked a fabulous one at that. Great video!

Living in Oregon and knowing that we still have a LOT of wood - the "shortage" is a supply chain problem not a resource one - Godin should sneak up on the other companies and put out some maple/walnut bodied guitars/basses. Put them with Lollar pickups and you're going to get some unholy tone monsters.

A friend of mine is a huge Godin aficionado and owns probably a couple dozen of them. He knows the owners and has visited the factory many times. I believe he even had them make him one or two one-off custom models. I think Godin makes some exceptional guitars and have thought about getting one for quite some time but I just haven't found one with a neck profile that I've bonded with. Maybe some day. Anyway, good for you, Darrell... I'm sure you'll continue to enjoy the Summit... plus it's a nice shout-out to a great Canadian company.

Hey Darrell, you should check out vintage 47 amps. They are modeled after vintage valco and gibson amps. They have handwired point to point wiring. One thing to note is they are octal tube amps, and those have 8 pins instead of 9, and have a very different sound. They are in tons of models that are mostly valco designs. One of the most unique ones is the chicago triple. It has 3 speakers. One is a 10 inch and 2 are 8 inches. It features boost and bias controls which are pretty cool. I honestly think the va 185g would be the most interesting. It is a replica of the EH 185, think Charlie Christian. All of the amps also have volume and tone controls that interact with each other, allowing you to control feedback and amp overdrive. They are made in the USA with hand jointed Baltic birch solid or laminated, pine bracing and smooth corners. They also have hand painted pinstripes which are really cool.

But, you keep saying practice and don't worry about the small stuff. How about some videos on practice myths and practice advice. Clearly you are an experienced player in many genres. How about some history or your guitar journey, dumb or ineffective things you did that maybe you can help us skip. How to practice, what to practice. Can we learn online or do we need an instructor for sure. How much theory vs practical? You've convinced me that choosing the hardware is not nearly as important as the skillset of the player. A '17 PRS 594SC, '21 PRS S2 McCarty 594 and a Michael Kelly Enlightened, 'are at the top. The only down side to the Godin is that after a few years the circuit board doesn't hold up too well. Hi Darrell, been following your channel ( as a fellow Canadian), and love what you do. Often, your reactions to some guitars- positive or negative, regardless of price, have influenced my personal decisions on purchasing same. For that reason, I am writing about this edition. Actually the Godin guitar company is about 10 minutes from my home, and I have many of their guitars- major value for the money. Ironicatly, I'm not sure where or from whom you got THIS guitar, but when I checked with Godin about buying one of these, they told me this line has been discontinued for a while. So if anyone is actually looking for one, they should be looking in the USED section. Keep up the tremendous work- love your enthusiasm.

I have played numerous Godin guitars, and they always impressed me in that they were a lot of guitar for the money. A friend passed away and left me a Godin 4-string bass which is one of the nicest basses I've played. My son borrowed it and announced that I wasn't getting it back! Oh well, it's still in the family.

Darrell!..it seems like you,ve proved that it matters less and less where a guitar is made, but means more about whats under the hood! Like stainless steel frets, neck shape, electronics etc. Love what yer doin with these reviews! Thanks again?..Jerry

Godin guitars are a nice little secret. The prices are going up so the great buys are few and far between. Love my Freeway EMG!!!

Wow big bass style headstock its huge! Maybe it just looks big..? Where i'm from in upstate NY Godin's are pretty popular because their isn't as many fender and gibson dealers near by. They sound and look great too! Some have too many controls and weird body shapes, but i like this one! Rock on!

This Godin is very beautiful, and reminds me a bit of Aria Pro II PE-1000 from the late 70s: it was one of the first electric guitars to feature the recessed controls on the body top. it was Aria's take on a Les Paul in itself, and was designed by Nobuaki Hayashi(A.K.A. H. Noble), who later founded Atlansia Guitars.

What I like about this guitar is it still has the classic Les Paul form, but it’s not as chunky. In the side-by-side comparison, the Godin has a slight offset to it, which is attractive. Some of that slimming and slight reproportioning is where you might trim some of the traditional weight. I’ve liked every Godin I’ve played. They are high-quality and innovative guitars. I tend to hold onto the gear I buy. Quality, longevity, and “connection“ is important to me. I still own and play pre-Gibson Tobias basses - one from Hollywood, one from Burbank. So, if I was in the market for a Les Paul style guitar, I would definitely look at the Godin as a contender because of lighter weight, more refined playability, and consistent high quality - as a next generation Les Paul. All of the original guitar designs had room for improvement. I would pay a comparable price for a better guitar and plan to keep it.

I own an early 1990s Godin G-3000. It's a funky looking thing for sure, but a fantastic playing and sounding guitar. Godin makes some really great guitars.

Great guitar! Nice review. I'm surprised you didn't mention the headstock angle. Seems an improvement on the LP design.

You are correct, that black button by the tone knob is the High Definition Revoicer. The HDR is found on a lot of Godin's guitars includin' the DS-1 which I have. The DS-1 is the signature guitar of my chief inspiration Daryl Stuermer. Matter of fact, your playin' in demo in the beginnin' of this vid reminds me of somethin' Daryl Stuermer plays.

Finally! Some Godin love! Wicked and affordable axes! They are great! Since you talked price as a drawback, do one in the more affordable range. I own a Radium and it’s super unique and cool and $850 CAD.
