Ignore the dislike! There are always people who feel the need to be mean for no reason. And even on the most popular channels they get dislikes too. I really enjoyed watching you paint this and listening to you chat about your goals for your art channel.
Dislikes don't bother me, I think of them as signs I'm headed in the right direction. So far the response has been overwhelmingly positive, it's only natural to rub at least someone the wrong way. And truth be told, I doubt people who say mean things online would have the guts to say them to me in person, so I'm not gonna waste my time thinking about that. Thank you for your kind words ❤
Hi David! Wow you said it; "art is not magic". It takes a long time to learn the skills to create "good" art. A lot of people often overlook the time and effort that artists put into their work. It's especially difficult for beginners who have that initial hurdle of not liking what they make (as they haven't developed their skills), especially when people around them give negative feedback. I love the idea of a supportive community where we support everyone, no matter their skill level. Please keep up the amazing artworks and videos. I loved the voice over.
Agree 100%. I think it's important to demystify the preconceived ideas people have about art. Just like an athlete needs to train in order to compete at the Olympics, artists need to train too. I want to explore these myths in my channel and share some of the things that have worked best for me, in hope they may help someone else too. I had a lot of problems at the start because I felt I had no direction. Once I started practicing the right things instead of focusing on the wrong ones, my art skyrocketed. The secret is there is no secret, it's just setting goals, coming up with a plan to achieve them, and then putting in the HARD WORK. Thank you for your words, they mean a lot to me ❤😊
Why do you have a dislike? Shame on that person. Love your ideas David; you have a real direction here, and there are some genuinely interesting directions you seem to want to explore. I agree 100 percent about the arts being a NECESSITY in school, especially for people like us who had no other outlet from a very young age. It is a disgrace that it is not more widely acknowledged that some children are wired differently and will not become accountants and bankers. If not for music and art I would be completely lost. I remember being told in math class that my doodles were nice, but I needed to put them away and pay attention. Now I make a full time living off of my "doodles". I look forward to watching the progression of your art, and your channel David- You speak very well btw. I'm going to be doing some follow up shout out videos, and I'll link to this one in particular to show people that what we are doing together is making a genuine difference.
Dislikes are a good thing! you're not a real youtuber without haters. I can't wait for my first hate comment, it will be like a rite of passage 😂😂😂 Thanks for all the support Larry, it really means a lot. I'm also really excited to see what you come up with on your channel. You really know your stuff 🙂
lol. Fair enough David; I was annoyed though, because there is nothing but good in this video- if you don't mind I'm going to link to this video in the next channel update as a perfect example of how people can start taking the next step with their channels, and their work.
I just discovered your channel tonight, after watching your video on cubism and painting like picasso. I went to a picasso museum and that's why I searched for it. Watching your video and listening to you talk about your goals for this channel already inspired me. I immediately subscribed. I'm exactly where you are in your art journey. I've drawn with charcoal and pencil exclusively for almost 3 years, and I'm currently experimenting with different mediums. I'm in a watercolor phase and I just might get a student set of gouache tomorrow and give them a try. Because I do like both watercolors and acrylics. Again. I'm SO glad I found your channel, and I'll be following your content religiously! :)
Thank you so much! I've been quite inactive on youtube because life, but I'm planning to come back at some point. I hope you find the content already on here useful! Thanks again for subscribing!
Don't be jealous of watercolorists; your work is great too. I work in watercolors, and sometimes it is the most amazing thing to paint with, and other times you just want to stab the brush repetitively into the paper in frustration. If brushes weren't so expensive, it might be fun and make some cool abstract art... There are so many factors with watercolors that can relate to whether an artwork is "successful". I've personally found that the paper you use is one of the most important aspects, but each artist will tell you something different based on what they struggled with.
But I am jealous!! So jealous!! 😂😂😂I'm not giving up on it though. I think I just need to find the right frame of mind in order to approach them, since they behave so differently from acrylics. I'll keep trying them until I get them, quitting is not in my vocabulary 😊
Glad to hear that! Don't forget to try out different art styles. Some people love realistic watercolors (Anna Mason created an art school that was pretty successful in this style for botanicals). Others love the abstract and lack of control in watercolors - creating very vibrant and textured paintings. Both are very different in art style and technique, so one might suit you more than the other.
Omg it looks gorgeous! I just came out of a 2 week art block, I’d love to hear how you coped with yours! Also, I get really jealous of artists who can use thick paints like gouache and acrylics. Almost everyone I know claims that watercolours are hard to learn and thick paints are easier.
Accio Artwork Thank you! 😊 I guess we’re wired differently because I haven’t been able to wrap my head around watercolor. I’ll keep trying though. I’ve been playing a lot with gouache lately and I think that’s gonna be the key because it can behave like acrylics and watercolor depending on how you use it. Maybe it works the other way around too! I talk about one of my strategies to avoid artists block in episode 2 of this series. Check it out and see if that helps! I’ll be addressing the topic a lot because I’ve found a lot of different things can get me blocked. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it too, I feel this is sort of a taboo subject among artists and if we all talk about it we can all benefit from each other’s ideas 😊
Ahhh yeah I love gouache when I use it with a watery consistency! Btw you are very good at watercolours! 😉 I’ll definitely check your video out, so many artists make videos on art blocks telling us that art blocks don’t exist at all, treating it as a taboo subject as you said!
Was very interesting to watch the painting process. I came here from Larrys channel. I like your ideas on future videos too. I also realized that there is not so much information on the 'second stage'. Would be awesome if you would share some tips on a more advanced level. Looking forward to it!
Artist Community in action; I love it! Yes; I liked this idea as well. Also about what David said about Art not being a "magical" thing. It's a skill that you have to work at like anything else.
