A small recommendation - SCPH-1001 is the original PS1 bios, was used for allot of emulation for years, and as a result is still included in allot of guides based purely on their legacy. However, it is not really the best option. Using the final PlayStation Bios extracted from the PSP is better if you're emulating PlayStation today
I use what I actually dumped from my PS1. I didn't realize that you can dump one from a PSP. Mine has custom firmware and I just might have to do that.
What are the benefits of using a more up to date PlayStation bios? For modern consoles it's pretty obvious but older ones didn't have more features or such, did they?
EDIT: It has been fixed in an update today, finally. So happy it's been months Ps1 emulation on the deck has one big problem right now I haven't seen many people talk about. Currently fos some reason the post-processing effects are broken and don't work. It used to work earlier this year, but now the effect doesn't apply no matter what. Which sucks cuz it has the best crt effect I've ever seen. Not just the scanlines but it also warps the screen to look like a tube TV and it actually looks really good. Very convincing. I'm hoping they fix it somehow
Pretty clear you've just been having a blast with your steamdeck with is cool to see! I don't do much emulating but when I do it's usually switch titles that I can't play anymore since I sold my OG model
Man some of the very best switch titles tax Steam Deck and ramp up heat while locking to a solid 30fps and a few dips below on intensive stuff. If thats happening with the steam deck that means the Switch is ancient hardware specs wise pathetic. These are titles like Fire Emblem Engage and the new Dragon Quest game too.
I mean there's just a lot less difficulty emulating newer hardware since it's openly documented and more similar to other common hardware. Also, for the most part I can play most of the earlier switch titles at 60fps comfortably at native res -- Stuff like Animal Crossing, Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart etc.
@@merthyr1831 Yea I got clued in early to target the early switch releases instead. I'm a baby to emulation in general and learned quick to be skeptical about more recent releases. I believe those are meant for more powerful PC rigs which defeats the purpose of portability for me personally.
A bit misleading as there is no "Enhancements" tab available for Steam Deck. I have updated Duckstation, i have tried both gaming mode and Desktoo mode and still no sign of Enhancements.
i dont usually do ps1 emulation unless the roms are pre installed on a handled emulator bin and que files are a pain in the butt to set up manually if it doesnt unzip into them automatically and depending on the rom there is 50/50 chance it wont all the other disc based systems just use a simple .iso file you just have to unzip and drag to the right rom folder no need to pray it unzips to the right file extensions and format
You could always rip your own games yourself and use whatever format you like. Most of mine are in bin/cue because I first ripped them on my RPi and pcsx_rearmed wanted that format, but since being on a desktop again I've got a few that are other formats since all the other emulators can handle them. As far as loading, I've found that RetroArch fails if I select the .bin file, but not the .cue file. So if you're having problems with the emulator recognizing the file, use the .cue when you open it.
Any news on why steam decks now (OLED and OG) are now crashing after 20-30 minutes, and doing a "veryfing installation" reboot? I'm so ticked...I don't want to RMA my limited edition...
perhaps either busted SSD (unlikely since you said both OLED and OG) or a faulty software (far more likely if it happens on both models). send a support message to Valve and wait for software updates that fixes this (or use Preview update channel if you're not already on that since that usually gets the updates fast)
Duckstation is simply not maintained on Retroarch. its core is very old and the other PS1 cores aren't as good. so for mostly accurate/enhanced emulation you have to use Duckstation , which honestly is as easy to use as PCSX2 now. they even share the same exact UI.
