I have set up a Patreon account where I'll be posting photos and videos of upcoming projects and what I'm currently working on. www.patreon.com/philipbryden
I would put my money on this being a botched mod job judging by all the solder smeared on the outer ground plane. The most common failure when shorting out some of the pins you need to solder to, is one of the BA chips. Having the BA5815FM blown usually gives no output. Absolutely nothing, but the console usually still powers on, has fan spin and the disc tray does eject. But you'll know it doesn't work as you need to hold the power button down for 4-5 seconds to turn it off instead of the normal 1ish second. If the BA6664FM has gone, it'll be the same, except that you get a blank signal out of the console
I found that the PS14 fuse (which has something to do with the disk drive) was faulty. I installed a new fuse but it immediately became faulty, so I have no idea what could be causing it. Very frustrating.
@@youmaster21 It's been too long ago to remember. If the fuse was ok, I probably wouldhave left it. If the fuse was blown, you have the option to remove the faulty one before fitting a new one. Or you can fit a new fuse on top of the faulty one.
@@PhilipBryden Hey man, I can confirm that you do not need to change the fuse near the chip :D Just removed the chip and it works right away. Thank you for your discovery I´m going to try to use this PS2 just with the hard drive.
I have the same problem my disk drive stoped working when I installed the laser for the cd drive but I didn’t plug in the laser cable and then the disk drive stoped working 😢 I competed installing the laser then I tested by turning it on the disk drive worked for a second and the it stoped working. I noticed I forgot to plug in the laser cable tested it again and it was dead 💀 disk laser eject button not working
@PhilipBryden I had the exact same problem! I adjusted the potentiometer and when I put it all back together it turned on, didn't spin the disc, froze, and when I turned it on again, no display, no eject, but fans turn on and light goes green
welp. you did it. I hereby give up. I am never going to think up a funnier title (edit: thumbnail title) to a video. For the rest of my days, I know my efforts will be in vain to match that kind of funny.
I have a bunch of 2.5" HDDs I could use but I haven't used Free Mcboot before. Just now I've bought another PS2 Phat with 'no display'. So I think I should look into the HDD option, thanks.
Thanks Gary. After the recording ended I went to Aliexpress and found the faulty chip and 5A fuse I need to finish this off. Cross your fingers that the optical drive actually reads discs lol
