- On the PS2 the car is lit by individual lamp posts during gameplay, while on Dreamcast only during replays. - On both versions there is AI traffic and their headlamps also individually illuminate the rear of the player's car as you pass them. - Reflections are not more realistic on PS2, it is in fact the same technique used in both version with different balancing of the various effects. A texture is scrolled on top of the car to fake environment reflections. On DC that texture is more prominent. - The actual car models are pretty much identical. - The draw distance is significantly longer on PS2. - The tracks have been improved in terms of detail for the PS2 release (thanks to additional development time.) - The image quality, textures, anti-aliasing, and as result colors, are drastically superior on DC. - The interlaced signal on PS2 is Less than half of the native resolution of the DC - The game looks overall appreciably better on DC despite being an older release.
Whilst the PS2 version is my favourite, i love both of these games and love that they are the same but different. Makes owning both absolutely essential. I remember getting the Japanese DC version and being blown away by the exceptional replays.
In my honest opinion, TXR0 Has better lighting, better reflections and slightly more details on the cars like fake logos. But the physics are worse. TXR2 reflections and lighting aren't as dynamic, but the cars handle a lot better.
same, on an old CRT the ps2, as with many cases often looks better. But damn does 480p RGB VGA translate a LOT better to modern digital displays. Also thanks for letting me know, I never played Zero, but played later Genki TXR releases and the handling always felt like a bus compared to TXR2 on the dreamcast as a kid, I thought I was going mad but just gave Demul a go and you are right. lol if the handling is what killed off that series my teenage self would be p!ssed.
dreamcast has better IQ and textures, the rest is somewhat better on ps2 in this game me thinks, looks like the dreamcast has a better gpu and the ps2 more cpu power.
Dreamcast (by default) has the edge on resolution side of things but that's all, you can easily point out superior lighting in TXRZ, it's just on the other level, environment sources cast light on the car
