Since the days of the PlayStation 1, Sony have been innovators in gaming. They've created dozens of new franchises and gaming experiences only to abandon most of them.
These games range in genre from FPS to RPG to racers to platformer to simulators. The number of games and franchises PlayStation have made over the last two decades only to drop is staggering. Sly Cooper, Jak & Daxter, Wild Arms, Legend of Dragoon, LifeLine, Kingsley's Adventure, and many many more.
In this video, I go over the history of all the games Sony developed or published over the years that they no longer acknowledge. This video kicks off Left at the Station, where I look at PlayStation's forgotten history and the games they need to bring back!

I'm curious, which of the games I mentioned today is your favorite? There are a lot of great games Sony's dropped over the years so it can be difficult to pick just one or two. Personally, I always loved Jak & Daxter and Sly Cooper! But I also liked MediEvil, Ape Escape, Intelligent Qube, and The Last Guy.

Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper, Medievil, Ape Escape, even Motorstorm. Even with me not playing or being all that interested in playing some stuff shown here, I do still lament the abandonment of much of this stuff and lacklustre preservation, something highlighted by former Playstation head Shawn Layden. I disagree with there being 'nothing' worthwhile on PS5 as the big blockbusters generally have a lot to offer from Horizon Forbidden West to Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart to the recently released Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Still more can be done and things look hopeful with Jim Ryan heading out. After all, there's only so much the likes of Playstation Access can do. They have been stellar in promoting the Playstation brand, definitely moreso than Jim.

My friend was getting rid of his PS3 a couple of weeks ago so I offered to take it since I'd never had the system (other than the PSP it's the only Sony console I haven't owned). Been buying a ton of games for it, but the only one I've started playing is Heavenly Sword, which I'm having a great time with. It's a game that I've always been interested in but never had a chance to play until now. Once I finish this up, I've already bought over 20 other games for it and so have a lot of stuff I'm looking forward to playing. I also recently got The Order: 1886 for the PS4 a few weeks back for less than $10, and am looking forward to loading that one up at some point as well. The first Mark of Kri was one of my favorite games on the PS2, and I'm really sad Sony never continued the series on past the one sequel. I'd love to see a newer version with the improved power that the PS5 has. I can't remember if it was 1st party or 3rd party, but just in case it was a Sony property, I'd also love to see more of Champions of Norrath. I used to play the first game on the PS2 all the time, and while I didn't like the sequel as much, I did have a blast when my friend came to visit me for a week or so and brought his copy. We had a great time playing through it together. Either way, I think that series deserves more love as it never made it past the PS2 generation.

Ratchet & Clank, infamous, God of War, and uncharted are one of top favorite franchises. And it's a shame that Sony has forgotten most of these amazing ips.

Weirdly enough, they did take some riscs with games like Returnal and Sackboy in the launch year of the PS5, but yea, their output is lacking, when when you consider that Square Enix published more games than Sony on PS5 so far.

Square published 2* Star Ocean games, 4* FF, Tactics Ogre, Valkyrie Elysium, Diofield, Octopath 2, Outriders, Forspoken, Guardians of the Galaxy, and some indies, like Shiijima Story, Powerwash sim and Little Goody Two Shoes. That's 16 games vs 14 Sony games, of which 1 is a remake and 5 are ports/upgrades from PS4.

I agree. Their overall output this generation (especially after launch year) really os lacking, and I don't love this push towards live service games.

Trap Gunner. It still boggles me how that game didn't take off. It's like a mix of a better bomberman and some overhead shooter arena, but a fighting game. It never gets old. Always fun to play with others every time i come back and play it.

Bro I have a movie channel and feel the same way about movie innovation. Also I'm freaking crying for a Resistance game whether it be remake, remaster and new entry. I just want it back and RIP MotorStorm :(

I really hope Sony adds more hidden gems that can be at least purchasable at the Playstation store as a way to conserve or discover games that deserve to be mentioned

There is some interest stuff on there like Legend of Dragoon and Ape Escape but yeah, more can be done. I could've sworn Tombi (or Tomba) was on PS Plus but I checked and it wasn't.

I'm still waiting for a true Warhawk successor! I'd die to be able to play a sequel, but I'd be deathly afraid of how the game would be monetized given the landscape of most multiplayer games.

I remember getting a ps3 fat with my first paycheck out of college. I purchased resistance fall of man with the system. I was hooked on the game. I wish we would get a reboot. I am not a fps fan at all but I would put 100s of hours in a new resistance game

The FPS may be the most addicting genre for me, either that or a good turn based RPG. I can also honestly say that all 3 resistance games held my interest and I had more fun with it then halo 3, modern warfare and any other shooter in the late 00’s. Except Bioshock, they were king. Resistance is really under appreciated. Kinda hard to give a crap about any of the main characters though.and the auger from the 1st game is severely flawed

You know what? I completely agree with you! That's why i subscribed and liked the video! Also, can you give a shoutout to the PS1 game "Heart Of Darkness." Man, what beautiful game that was! Especially for its time! Beautiful graphics and story to be honest. I really enjoyed it! I also agree that Sony needs to brings their focus back to what made them great. Sure, i love The Last Of Us, Uncharted, Horizon, Spiderman, God Of War, Ratchet and Clank, etc... But the more "little" games like Heart Of Darkness, Tomba, Klonoa, Jak & Daxter, Twisted metal, The Getaway, and frankly so many more! It's just blasphemy that they didn't get any attention whatsoever. Or just some kind of poor remaster. The Order 1886 was such a great game! I even loved Knack! And don't get me started about Bloodborne. Even though i would love a remaster (4k 60fps.) I would much rather have a sequel. Though i know that won't happen. But a gamer can dream right? 😏

I was there for the ps1 days. Symphony of the night, resident evil 1-3, silent hill, mgs, everything squaresoft, capcom and konami is what put the console on the map. The first party stuff was hit and miss. Those games i first mentioned still hold up. Spyro and crash are timeless... but who owns those ip's now? Syphon filter sucks, twisted metal is a product of its time, medievil is very janky, i liked jet moto 1 and 2 but wave race is leaps and bounds better, what else did sony make back then thats relevant, gran turismo? Ps3 on the other hand, made bangers.

I'll be honest, I never played it myself lol. I've always wanted to though. There's an upcoming indie game that takes inspiration from Tomba called Double Shake if you want to check that out.

@@LeftattheStation Interestingly, it seems like Sony might not own Tomba at all, since Limited Run games seems to be publishing Tomba 1 on PC and Switch in the near future.

For the most part outside of Souls-likes I'm not really looking at AAA games these days. I'm largely playing indies and smaller developer games. And PS5 is fantastic for those. Sony's 1st party has indeed collapsed you are right in that regard. And in they really don't care for legacy titles, at least no one with money seems to. Astrobot is actually pretty great at least. Maybe the creativity isn't gone either PSVR still is largely untapped.

There psvr systems seem to be left by the wayside. I want to get one but there doesn't seem to have any games except a few good one. Not enough to get me to buy one. They could have done something fantastic with the system but I don't think they care about it.

I was the biggest ps fan until the middle of ps4 era when they killed japan studios and move over to california. I dont like the new playstation and they dont like me either. But At least Nintendo is still great (Zelda, Metroid, Mario, no woke stuff) and playstation can still make some good games from time to time like god of war ragnarok or Ratchet and clank rift appart, but they are few and far between. I still think playstation can recover but it will need at least two generations of console cycles.
