The percentage buying games on EPIC definitely is small, most people have it only for the free stuff. CD Projekt Red with GOG at least sells DRM free games through and through. Microsoft just went Gamepass against Valve and even they came back to Steam. Sony tho? Brave moves there.
As someone who has playstation and pc, I think day and date releases would be better from a business perspective as people will be more hyped for the game and buy it. Otherwise after the wait for a pc release pc players will either wait for a sale or not bother and move on.
I’ve already skipped Sony’s current-gen console after realizing they’re porting their previous games to PC. Not just that, this company isn’t exactly making pro-consumer policies. They complicate things by forcing users to do things like: incentivize to purchase their proprietary devices such as their own wireless headsets instead of third-party products and making it incompatible, raising subscription prices for their online services, and imposing high restrictions on their store, which doesn’t support or expand local currency markets. I was happy and patient when they ported games to Steam, but then they made things even more frustrating by blocking their sales in many parts of the world due to the implementation of mandatory PSN links, which are unavailable and lack support in many regions, unlike Valve. If Sony really wants to divert their PC audience to their console space, they must improve every good service they have to offer which they lack.
@@Lapele-fb9gj1: Consoles lack indie games 2: No they aren't. PCs are multi-purpose, you can also get games MUCH cheaper. You can get a $500 PC that will play tons of games that you'll never have to buy again 3: You can use controllers with PCs. Your controller selection is also much higher
@@mgord9518PC: No physical games, end of the story. You could sell me a 4090 specced PC for 500 dollars and I would still hesitate to "buy" PC games at full price, or even half price. It's just NOT worth it
"...it would essentially spell the end of PlayStation consoles as we know them." Yeah, I think this is happening regardless. No one is benefited from Sony clinging to the old ways, just like nothing could stop the death of cable television.
@@jiggerypokery2962 I don't think I said they'd go out of business or fold their video game division. Just that the old console model isn't working anymore.
@@pse2020 No, it's not. It's sold a little north of 50M consoles, and PS4 sold north of 70M by this point, with a lifetime total over 100M. You can look up those charts and see for yourself.

I think opening a store on PC means you could buy the game from PlayStation on PC and be able to play it on your playstation console as well, or vice versa. It also allows Sony to keep "exclusivity" on games while still being available to the PC market.
Hmm let's see 1 :- buy a game from Sony and it's playable on ps5, pc, or pc handhelds, future psp/vita. 2. Buy from steam limited to pc or pc handhelds. Yeah I'm buying from Sony. What's more likely is I would have to buy different versions for different hardware. Exclusivity wins, followed by best version or best deal.
Yea... no... Bethesda, Activision, ubisoft, EA, all attempted the same thing and look were they are. All there games are coming back to steam. It would be the same for sony. Epic only gets away from it because they got Fortnight money and own/produce the unreal engine. So they Can make money from licensing that. But even they said a number of times the epic store is not making money.

Interesting how you mentioned their strategy with unpredictability, I was waiting SO long for Ghost Of Tsushima to port to Steam! I was googling it every few months for like a year lol. And then it finally released but I can wait longer till it's on sale for $40. You nailed it with our patience too lol
I want a three stage console. Phone/true pocket sized gaming device that transforms into larger laptop/steamdeck/switch/some kind of galaxy fold vita gameboy ds something that can fit into a backpack comfortably that then docks into an egpu that can be used on a tv
I don't believe for even half a second that if Sony titles were released at the same time on both PC and PS4/5 that would mean the end of consoles... That is just silly. Console players and PC players are largely very far apart in almost every way. From taste of games, to interface preferences, and even just basic preference of controls. People gravitate to Consoles because they just always work without fail, zero effort bar of entry, and it's a closed ecosystem. People gravitate to PC because it's limitless potential, upgradable, and tinker-friendly. Availability doesn't change those core preferences. I mean the only reason I don't own both a Xbox Series and PS5 is because I had to sell a damn kidney to afford a PS5. With the cost of games and the consoles themselves going up I have become increasingly picky and less willing to spend money. I used to split my time almost evenly across console and PC, and now I'm basically exclusively PC nowadays because of the cost of games.
To be honest them being so unpredictable cause more frustration then anything for me. Cause I am *not* buying a console to experience the sequel to one game I liked.
Nothing was unpredictable about this. Sony would do same day exclusives only if they were failing, and they aren't, so thinking that they would was just wishful thinking.
It would have worked for me in the Wii/360/PS3/DS/PSP era where every system including the PC had its big exclusives and I picked up every system. The current gaming landscape is totally differerent however, it's Nintendo/VR/PC-like.
Hey, welcome back! Sony's hopes for someone to jump from PC to their platform is a tough sell because, like you said, PC players are quite patient and by already deciding to offer their works on PC, we're being set up with the expectation that after their console exclusivity period, they'll likely make their way on over to PC in time. They can get the PlayStation content they're offering, but not feel compelled to follow up because if they're offering definitive editions on PC with all sorts of bells and whistles, why be there day one on PlayStation? For the sake of being first? As if. Nintendo knows that if you want to play their games, you're gonna have to be on their platform - no ifs, ands, or buts. Granted, Switch emulation broke down that barrier extensively in recent years, but Nintendo releasing the ninjas after Yuzu (and other forks) have sent a pretty clear sign that they're not intent on having emulation match pace with their console generations as they enter a new one soon, and lose them any further business. Everyone is always hawking on PlayStation/Xbox dynamics, but Nintendo's kind of the industry frontrunner based on their hybrid approach. It'll be a frosty day in hell when Nintendo decides they want a piece of the PC pie, but their business is staked on doing things the Nintendo way, and they have virtually no interest in the PC market. Sony wants to play ball by trying to placate the PC audience and introduce them to the PS ecosystem, but compared to their walled garden approach with PSN accounts in select countries and limiting their future releases based on that account requirement (a very clear course-correct from the Helldivers debacle), they have a very uphill battle to try and convince folks to be on their platform. I think the thing to realize now is that the industry as we knew it has continued to rapidly change as the lines between platforms continues to blur. Microsoft is converting Xbox to something almost exclusively service-based, Sony's hoping that they can hold on to their walled garden while also letting a few exclusives out to sucker in any hopefuls looking to get hooked on PlayStation, and Nintendo is defiantly being Nintendo. Also, happy not-E3 week! 🥳
I agree that PS is facing challenges from the rapid growth of PC community. PC players are more patient for not only games to release but for sales too. Games are expensive today. PC game sales happen more often than on console via Developer, Steam, etc. Also with the amount of games coming out and growing power of emulation. I am one of those people who have a backlog of games that would wait til something not only comes out on PC but at a good price.
Its crazy to me that a few years ago people were getting excited about console exclusives releasing on PC and saying stuff like "They're realizing PC isn't in competition with console," and now they're saying that PC might be killing console.
Unfortunately, I have to agree with you. I'm pretty confident Sony's current goal is to be a 'Trojan Horse' and convert PC gamers into PlayStation gamers by forcing them onto their PlayStation Network, (as we're about to see with God of War: Ragnarok). This will eventually make a transition onto a new PlayStation PC storefront more 'palatable', as 'Hey. you're already PSN subscibers, so why not just buy your games from us directly instead?' Then, they will bring in Day and date releases of major titles provided you're buying from their storefront. We've seen it before and we're about to see it again!
What about not only the idea of a launcher but a piece of software that runs the launcher, store front, native drivers for controllers, PSN chat, and everything else a PS5 would do in software?
Traditional consoles are less appealing to me now that the Steamdeck is a thing. PC gaming is closing the gap in hardware prices and if you factor in the cost of PS Plus and Xbox Live, they might even be more costly over the generation. PC gaming has come a long way. There is far less tweaking to get games to run smooth, and with Steam, the experience is even more streamlined.
Playing games on a gimped machine (console) and then going to pc, like I did, just seems like the natural order of things. I feel like these folks just want us to go backwards cuz they want more money.
As long as Sony continues to pump out first party and 3rd party exclusive titles that gamers want, Sony's console will have no problem competing against any Steam based Console. Any AAA titles on Steam will also release on Sony's console day and date, just like they do today.
I'm still waiting for CTR:NF on PC and will keep on waiting until either the day I die, or the day I get fed up of waiting and just emulate it instead. Getting my money now is like a window of opportunity I'm deciding to close more and more with each passing year. Sucks for them if they don't want to.
@@FanTheDeck Yea a friend of mine told me about it, looks pretty similar to Sonic Riders Tournament Edition (the idea of it at the very least). Maybe that'll pressure Activision to do the job 😂
We still need consoles is there are people that are yet unwilling or just too dumb to operate a computer. There are people that I know personally that are my age in their 30s or 20s and still don't know how to use a Windows PC. The only thing they know how to do is use Apple products
The problem for me and why I don't own a PS5 anymore is the library just feels empty, the exclusives are a good draw but there isn't enough of them to warrant owning the console that is going to sit there getting dusty while I wait for another exclusive I actually want to play. If it's a game that is cross platform and I can play it on PC I'm going to play it on PC because I can likely get it for cheaper and the obvious hardware superiority. So for me what Sony is doing works perfectly, releasing their best exclusive titles to PC a year or 2 after the console release is fine and I will buy the game every time... I can wait for the PC release but I wont own a console that gathers dust... If they were pushing out more first party releases that might be different.
That announcement was obviously not in total honestly.... Ratchet and Clank, Returnal, Days Gone, Sackboy, Uncharted 4 and more, all came to PC without potential for any immediate sequels. Sony knows well enough they have to release games to PC and go day and date sometime in the future to save their PS brand but they just won't announce it; just so they don't lose the already established PlayStation user base.
Honestly if Sony removed the pay wall for the essential PS+ and let us play online for free, I'd honestly consider splitting between the Deck (indies, emulators and cheevo-hunting) and the PS5 (performance, bigger games and babysitting). Alas Sony wants it to be more expensive to play HD2 on their own hardware vs the Steam decks straight 40$ fee so...
This is why Microsoft is about to release a handheld PC with a Windows gaming specific OS. Just like The steam deck. They will release their own handheld and then he will sell the OS to other console developers. Just like they already deal with regular windows, but this will be specific for gaming consuls similar to steam big picture/steam deck OS.
I think the big problem is they really dont have any first part stuff lined up to it's a mute point. Plus itself is not a massive lose for pc or a win for Playstation players. Sony said they wanted more Online multiplayer stuff. What single player stuff they got coming will most likely be either the final games for PS5 if they were smart PS6 exclusive games. After all if it takes at best 5 years to get the "next," horizon or GOW game out there is no way the pS5 will be relevant when sony would be hyping ps6 Added on to that sony doesn't have the game division someone like Nintendo has and most third party will follow squire and be multi plat unless sony or microsoft shell out to make up the difference
I skipped the PS5 because I saw no need to get one because of Sony porting their titles to PC and the same goes with Sega/Atlus and other developers as well.
I can see PS doing their own PC store and shortly after, delist their games on steam, and then start making PC ports of their older games like GoW 3 and the Ratchet and clink games
I don't think exclusives are all that healthy of a strategy to employ because since the turn of the millenium there is a vast schism between PC and console players in terms of market. There's a very small cross-section of people who own both a console and a gaming PC at the same time, and even less people that might be swayed by a specific exclusive game release to purchase a console especially when the game is still full price. What Xbox and Playstation provide in the current era is a convenient and affordable way to play games at high fidelity/framerate, and the nonexistent difference in hardware architecture only exemplifies that. The hardware and service are one. Playstation only serves to lose money by and large by holding back on publishing simultaneously on PS and PC; it's additional resources and the opening of a still rather large console gaming market that Playstation offers to developers, not the "opportunity" to feature on PlayStation consoles.
I own every Nintendo, Playstation and XBOX consoles from the start to the announcement of games going PC (before the 5th generation consoles). I don't like monopolies and I don't like owning something that I basically already have but with way better specs. Consoles are great for childeren and the elderly but for us that grew up in this world of video games we want them to be usuable where ever (laptop, phone, steam deck or similar devices) or what ever we want (console, PC, steam deck or similar devices).
The Steam Deck was what made me never bothered with buying a PS5, just like back during the PS3 days where I abandoned the 360 for the PS3. I think the console problem has something to do with how the Steam Deck made a lot of people like myself, who always thought pc gaming was this super complicated, difficult, and even more expensive thing to get into, but the Deck and Steam itself makes pc game as easy as it could possibly be. For me, I also never cared for pc gaming because I just hate Windows, and Steam introduced the existence of Linux, which it was news to me at the time I pre-ordered my Steam Deck, now I have a main pc I game along with the Deck, both running Steam OS, sort of as my main pc runs HoloISO. Another thing is that I think a lot of people like myself, are smarten up to Sony and Microsoft greed with their subscriptions robbery scams
Let Sony cook. That's all we should say. They will see for themselves which market is rising more (Pc or consoles) and then they can change their decision. I just hope that they won't bring PSN+ as a requirement to play online through Steam. Or is that already a thing? 😅 Imagine you need PSN+ to invite your steam friends to a round of helldivers😂 So overall it's up to Sony what is benefitting them more and if they want to be more exclusive, let them be. We have fun with steam which has a lot more games to offer which are more casual and less pricey most likely🎉
Of course they were not going to announce day and date…so they could sell a handful of 1st party copies while slowly killing the console that actually makes them money? PC is a means to make extra money…so you can wait, buy a PS5 on the side or convert over for those that are gaming on $400 “gaming” laptops. Doesn’t really make a difference to them.

I'm just really worried that pc will follow console one day and we'll have to pay to play online. That's why i left consoles 8 years ago. Why do i need to pay sony or xbox for online service when i already pay my isp.
i have literally never bought an xbox from a retailer... i got a 360 from a friend because it had the red ring of death then i fixed it with parts from a newer revision that a different friend had that died... used the crap out of that console till i eventually sold it. But my point is that i have bought multiple nintendo and sony consoles directly from retailers and never really felt the need to do so for x box because ive always been a PC gamer and microsoft had very few exclusives even halo came to PC fairly early on. I was just talking to a friend earlier today about how i love the ps5 as a console but probably wont ever buy one because i would rather wait for the games i want on PC... I have had my steam account for like 12 years over that time 3 console generations have existed i still have the first ever games i got on steam even things that are now delisted... but everything i bought on the Wii and Wii U is gone.... games i bought for ps3 are useless to me now.... why should i buy into every new console when everything for it is basically lost at end of life for the console...
You have a lot of good points but I would say that Xbox is the exception to that principle of losing your games at the end of a console's life. I grew up with an Xbox but wasn't really interested in the Xbox One until they incorporated backward compatibility. The fact that I can carry forward most of my favorite games on the latest hardware was a major I bought a One and a Series X. And while it's true that Xbox is not as openly compatible as a PC, I've been very happy with the Xbox experience, especially as an old PC gamer with less time/patience to deal with troubleshooting my hardware. No shade on PC gaming btw - but I've gotta give credit to MS pushing for more compatibility and cross play in the traditionally closed off console space. I look at my Xbox as a PC on Easy mode.
I can say this I have patiance to wait for the PC port and I was certainly not going to buy it on a Playstation I do not own a PlayStation I will not will buy one..,. PC gaming is already expansive so I won't take multiple systems, and beside that I am not able to play on the controls... I'm pretty sure I'm not alone on this.. Playstation is shooting owne food
I was never naive to think their Single Player Flagship were to be day and date as their console unlike LiveService releases... However, I was surprised to see Sony spit their true intent that they think a PC gamer as myself, (equipped with bleeding edge tech,) would ever transition to their compromised console(s). Like... No way. I'll wait, and as I did, GodOfWar sequel, my fav Sony franchise releases in just a few months. We have so many games on Steam, and many PC gamers, (myself included,) have crazy backlogs and other toys, (thanks gen1 steamdeck,) to consume additional portable PC content with. ... Naw, Sony. Give me your single player games every 2 or 3 years -- i dont mind. I want Sony to live, and same as Microsoft Studio games. (Gamepass ulti owner,) but i still buy my fav titles on Steam although i sorta have it for free on GamePass, (sorta free.)
Microsoft needs to make a version of windows that works like a console OS to allow a "console" PC to keep Xbox alive. Open up to Steam and Epic stores along with their own store (which I will hate but it makes business sense) and make it so their ecosystem is more attractive than PS.
So wait let me get this straight Sony want somebody who is used to playing on Superior tech to switch over basically downgrading pay an additional 600 + 70 for the game plus Internet yeah good luck with that.
Um…no, they don’t expect many to switch especially those with “superior tech”. PC is a means to make some extra money and a side effect is that they can convert people that are playing on cheap laptops or get others to buy a PS5 on top of their PC. The console crowd is where the real money is for them.
You're right- I didn't lmao. But a lot of our community did (see the NerdNest podcast). It felt mean spirited to say something like "everyone was wrong"
PC players will just wait; they won't go out and buy Sony's console and double dip. The bigger issue is that Sony's exclusives nowadays all have some sort of political controversy involving DEI, censorship, virtue signalling, etc. It just seems like Sony keeps pushing their own loyal fanbase away, to the point the general consensus is a sense of apathy towards Sony's exclusives; there is none of the 'Fomo hype' surrounding their exclusives like there used to be, because people are so tired of the online discourse.
Me deciding not to get a PS console the generation Sony decided to port to PC is nothing but a coincidence. I realized a PS4 was a waste of money so that's why I don't have a PS5.
I hope Sony does release more games that are compatible with the steam deck. This is the first generation where I skipped the PlayStation console. I've had every other PS console since the beginning but with the price of video games rising, and PSN rising I decided to skip this generation.
to be fair, they kind of self admitted that the ps5 games is pretty much timed exclusive; their logic is dumb. If Kingdom Hearts fans waited 3 years before it dropped to pc and couldn't even get pc players to make a free psn account, what makes them think they'll buy the console for the sequel (despite Ragnarök being announced for pc and until dawn day and date release)
TBH I don't understand Switch success. It's exclusive games are only 1 lvl above games on my phone. Other consoles and PC games are like 10 lvl above phone games.

PlayStation on PC will only succeed if they make the games playable on PlayStation as well, as the current PSN requirement and restriction on some countries is counterproductive.
Sony should've just copy Nintendo method , push out more 1st party games out instead of putting a store on PC to attract more people invested in their console and exclusives. The way i see it, PC players already accustomed to Steam would not buy 3rd party games in Sony/PS Store or MS/Xbox Store for that matter .. Xbox on the other hand is already a mess at this point only time will tell how long their Gamepass subscription will last...
frankly they are making a mistake. pc gamers are pc gamers for a reason. i'm selling off my physical copies for both xbox and playstation. why? i never play them, i just play on pc. the idea they think that by delaying a pc release they'll get pc gamers to cough up nearly 600 bucks for a console rather than them spending that to upgrade components on their pc is ridiculous.
It's frustrating as a consumer to see them try to game the system. Microsoft and Nintendo are clear opposites, with Xbox committing to day-one PC releases, and Nintendo never doing one. It doesn't feel like Nintendo is "cheating" consumers by not releasing to PC, because they never have. But Sony has demonstrated that they can make ports, and so it's clear when they choose not to. Deep down, they're not so different. Nintendo doesn't port to PC for financial reasons as well: exclusivity is a console-seller. But because they've never entertained the idea, it doesn't come off as greedy. Demonstrating the ability to do something, and then withholding that ability for when it's convenient to you, feels slimy. But if you never show that ability, you're innocent.
Day and date will give everyone a reason to leave the console and get a PC. They are doing it the right, multiplayer games day and date and SP games a year or two later. Day and date is the reason I don’t have a Xbox and opt for a gaming PC.

I knew it. If they do that it would be the death of PlayStation. The only reason why so many PC guys believed it is wishful thinking. The only scenario in which I see PlayStation releasing their games on PC day and date is if they were failing like Xbox is. And I know that a lot of PC guys think that PS is failing, but this is wishful thinking all over again.
Sony never said day and date. Iblaughed when anyone said thay for anything outside of helldivers, a multiplayer driven game that needs the numbers. Noone is buying ps5 for pc. Hell divers is how to do multilauer games, the other titles isnfor console sales first then later, but pc ganes sooner. I always felt a little logic would havw people realize this
As a 100% PC guy I disagree. Consoles will continue to exist as far as I can see. Console gamers like the simplicity and low cost. PC gaming is, sadly and surprisingly, getting more expensive particularly thanks to the greed-heads at NVIDIA. So I believe consoles will be fine even with day and date releases.
I think the days of sony and MS are counted.... They do such stupid things in the last i think people will learn and dont buy new consoles that often when nothing changes...
Depends if you buy a physical copy or a digital one. If you buy it from a store like Playstation network or Steam you actually never own a game. There is always a chance that those games cannot be downloaded at some point😅
ps5 users got shafted so bad. look at how many exclusives they even have... its blows my mind. what was the point of buying a ps5 if all the titles you have ARE PS4 TITLES OR FREE TO PLAY PC GAMES WITH CROSS PLAY!!!
There are so many more PS players than pc players. I dont think they care about converting pure pc players. Even though there are a lot of complaints about linking PSN account, theres also a large amount of players who already have a psn account to link. There are people who are willing to buy the game twice on their ps5 and PC. I think their delayed pc port release will always stay for single player games. The multiplayer same day release is smart for them. Sony is pretty successful, so I dont think they will be submitting to PC players' requests/demands
"There are so many more PS players than pc players." This is demonstrably false, and I don't even have to cheat by counting people who only play Roblox or League of Legends or something. PC is now the dominant platform. It's where the most copies of almost any given game are sold now. Elden Ring sold more on PC than PS5 and PS4 combined. In Guilty Gear Strive, we could literally get a readout of every player who played online in a given month for each platform, and PC came out ahead (that may have changed with Game Pass since then, but I doubt it).
@@richshrimp7680 Me neither, which is why I said I didn't even have to cheat, haha. And about one console generation ago, maybe a little more, you'd have been right. There WOULD have been far more PlayStation players.
So, based on vague marketing statement people assumed Sony will release games on PC day-and-day - despite nothing luke that ever been said. Now they are disappointed? That is what happens when you assume...
Sony has no chance of converting PC players into PlayStation players, PlayStation store and Microsoft store game prices fill me with disgust so I'm sticking to Steam. Sony won't take of thier rose tinted spectacles, all Sony wants us to do is sign into Steam and sign into PSN then to give God of War Ragnarok a glowing review and a thumbs up, lol 😂.
Sony porting their games is great. Sony forcing PC players into their ecosystem is horrible. The latter is what's going to hurt their bottom line... if PC gamers actually decided to not buy into it.
They will eventually. That whole statement was based on their moronic belief that they can get PC owners to buy a PlayStation. 😂 You put way too much stock in the number of consoles sold. It’s not helping them pay for the cost of their games because most of those console owners are casuals who don’t play those games. The big money is made in software, not hardware. It’s like having a bunch of cars on a race track with no fuel. If Xbox doesn’t have a new console in 15 years I’d like to know what they plan on doing with the millions of Xbox owners out there. I guess they’ll just toss them. 🤣 Console owners will continue to buy consoles because of the low cost. I don’t own a PS because they’re putting games on the PC and the PS4. I don’t care how long it takes as long as the rotation is frequent. And let’s be real, the reason they’re putting their old games on PC is because they don’t have any new games to feed the PS5.
There is still an enormous audience of people who have no interest in PC gaming. It’s really hard for many PC users to fully comprehend the minority position they are in. A PC isn’t plug-and-play and lots of people want exactly that. If an average consumer could buy a PlayStation that was no more complicated than a refrigerator, that would be their dream machine.
Exclusives are a plague. They should be illegal as they make preserving games way harder then it should be and they also cause lack of innovation in the consoles hardware and software.
Why would anyone want to play on a 7" screen when they can play on a 60" screen? Thats laughable... Portables are cool but they aint ever replacing consoles.
I don't need Sony's games. Most of them are like overpriced movies and not video games. There are plenty of actual fun games on PC that I would rather play.
