Hey Everyone! One of my musical heroes and influences passed away recently. The late great Thom Bresh was not only one of the best guitar players, story tellers, performers, and songwriters, but he was also an all-around great guy.
Thom was the first guitar player of note to take a chance on me as a young guitarist. He traveled down to Atlanta and we played a number of shows together; his generosity was the catalyst and gateway for what would come later. If it was not for Thom Bresh doing this, I'm not sure what I'd be doing today with the guitar.
As such, I thought it only appropriate that I play one of Thom's songs for the channel. The name of this song is "Vermillion," after the town of Vermillion, South Dakota. The way Thom always told the story, he got asked to perform and help open the National Music Museum in the town of Vermillion, and to honor such an occasion, Thom wrote the town a song and performed it on the opening day.
While I do not play this song exactly like Thom, I hope everyone still enjoys this rendition.
Thom was a true legend and a mentor to many young thumbstyle players. He will be (and already is) sorely missed.

Nice version! I'm learning this song now and it ain't easy! Started trying to learn thumb picking after seeing Tommy Emmanuel in 2002 and am still trying to get my picking hand index finger in the mix after using pick only for 25 years prior to that.. Never got to see Thom, but sure enjoy his music...

Thanks for watching and good luck on the song. Thom was a friend and mentor of mine - the more folks playing his songs, the better the world will be.
