Ok? fyi - AFFECTED by fire, not EFFECTED by fire. Mistake in text. There is a lot of confusion between these two words. AFFECT is a verb. It involves emotions. 1. It involves change on something, either change as a verb, or the change itself (noun). 1. This politician was true to his words and EFFECTED great changes in road building. He EFFECTED means he changed something, which is an action, therefore, a verb. 2. The lethal EFFECTS of hard drugs can be seen in the rise of homeless people on the streets. Here EFFECTS means the changes. The changes are a thing (such as open sores, acne on face, rotting teeth), therefore, a noun.
