In today's episode, I am revisiting my DIY cowboy pool and Pinterest inspired tiered raised garden bed. Oh ...and learning how to properly snake wrangle with High Desert Dani: www.instagram....
There is something about revisiting and tending to what I've let go on my property that has taught me a whole new sense of accountability. I've only been recently re-inspired with my desert home within the last couple of weeks. I was in a fog for so long that I was losing my excitement, ideas and passion for my next chapter here. I am back to being a one woman show, have had to step away from some "friends", I stopped going to the horse rescue to save my mental health from some humans there and have felt lost without the center of what kept me going IRL here in the desert. That is when I realized I can build all that I've lost but that means taking care and confronting the things I have broken. It's truly insane what a mirror renovating my property has been.

I feel like your channel is the most accurate to how real-life DIYs go! We run out of money and have to refocus elsewhere, and we're always going back to fix mistakes! I feel like other DIY channels gloss over that and their projects come out picture-perfect every time, which is not realistic! Thank you for keeping it real!

Rachel: Thank you for showing your perseverance in re-visiting DIY projects. As a person who also enjoys tackling DIY projects, most often I have found that the "second-time-around" projects work out even better than the first time. Keep up the good work, Rachel! Sincerely, Canadian Colleen

Holy crap girl you’re killing it. Snake handler extraordinaire. I’m not afraid of snakes but those rattlers aren’t ones I care for. I don’t think anything is a failure. Sometimes they just don’t work they way we want and we have to figure out what’s better. Things take time that’s all there is. Sometimes we have to come out of our discouragement to get to the place we move forward better than where we were. You go girl!!

Oh mama Metz 😢 I totally relate to losing that sense of awe or feeling deflated to maintain a space. It’s probably best to keep a routine of visiting the different areas of our homes and just tidying or dusting/sweeping the place just to show the space care and love. It’s like a reminder to one’s self like the different parts of ourselves that we often do tend to like we should. I’m glad the AG1 is helping with mental focus and gut health (#1) I noticed with a clean diet abd consistent exercise + good quality rest, I was able to take care of my spaces, and really cherish the things I have and not long to bring in more to fill in a void.(this just needs to translate into relationships for me😅 your girl has another talking point for therapy now 😬)😄 Anywho I can’t wait to see the addition/extension to the cowboy pool😊

Fun fact, your stock tank pool project was actually how I walked into your neighbourhood. I remember being completely puzzled because you were in a bikini, yet you were just building a pool - there was no "playing up the sexiness" to speak of. Despite me clicking on the vid to see how the pool was made, I couldn't fully focus on it as you didn't make sense to me. It wasn't until you said you were in the desert that I had my "Aha" moment. Also, this video reminds me of when Lindsay took the tape and earmarked all the projects that needed finishing touches, only this is more introspective and extensive. Even when a project turns out exactly as envisioned, there can be things that crop up that impact on function etc, so I adore these kinds of episodes where we pop back for a revisit. Lastly, I can't not mention the way you are with the critters on your property. Not only the way you consider them, but also your connection and how they willingly come up to take food from you - it may just be the cutest thing I've seen today.

Stock tank pools are so cute but still have maintenance -- something I've been learning over the past year. Since install, the filter froze and busted, then I ordered the wrong size clamp thing, meanwhile it turned green with algae, then I drained&refilled it, and got it working again this spring. Last night one of the exit hoses to the pump fell off randomly and this morning I woke up to and empty pool, and the pump running DRY which can't be good. Basically just wanted to let you know you're not alone and the pool life is not for the faint hearted =P *also side note, when mine gets sand in the bottom, instead of the pool vac (which probably costs 10 dollars but i'm still too cheap to buy..) I just use a hose and "siphon" it out, works pretty good.

Loved this episode! Not meant to be mean at all, but even though you hid the behind the scenes, it was sort of noticeable. Speeding through projects and not really think it through. This was the first episode I think in a long time where you stopped to think about how to do it well and what really fits your needs. Be meaningful. I hope this project gave you the strength to go on in your own pace and create your home how you envision it. You looked a lot calmer and at peace and that was wonderful to see. 💛

You are going to have such a nice, inviting, and cozy home. The fact that you achieved all this at a young age is amazing. Your place is going to nurture you, and those you invite to enjoy it with you. I have looked at other properties on-line in Joshua Tree and you have such an amazing view, plus 5 acres with other buildings on it. Maybe a little more chilling out and not worrying about RU-vid will help you enjoy what you have more. You may decide to stay for years, so what's the hurry. I think your "pool zone" is so nice. Like the swing there too. Keep going Rachel. Your real fans don't care what you put out--it is ALL...FUN TO WATCH!

Missed ya girl. Glad to see you're getting back to a good head space. From your old lady admirer. At age 69 I had to fix my caving in bathroom floor. Took me 3 weeks , borrowing tools and begging for someone to cut the wood. But alas I did have to call the plumber in. Slow and old honey.

I love your videos and seeing you grow in the past years. The one thing I would recommend is to make some type of cover for your cowboy pool. Like you mentioned, inevitably, sand will get in, but having a cover will prevent as much sand coming in as possible and reduce the need to clean up! Keep going, you’re doing great🫶🏽

It might be a good idea to have not only have ladders for wildlife but steps for your small dog if he falls in .😊😊😊😊😊

I am overjoyed with your progress with your desert home. The trailer living space I am obsessed with and then watching this episode…I want a pool like yours. You should be proud of all you have achieved. The only thing left is my invitation to your air B&B😉💕💖

Hi Rachel, love your DIY stuff. I live in arid west Texas. FYI, please don't lay your gloves on the ground because spiders can crawl in them. I read in our local paper this guy wrote an article where his friend did that and a black widow spider crawled in one of his gloves and he was bitten and got seriously ill. And be watchful for rattlesnakes! Sorry, it's the "mom" in me. Stay safe and well.
