Thank you so much. I have a name in my retirement village as "Walkalot" after our on line shopping company Takealot in South Africa. I am 76 and walk 12 to 16 km every day. I absolutely love to walk and always arrive home feeling absolutely wonderful.

I am 74 and I walk15,000 steps 6 days a week…I don’t walk slow I walk at a fast pace…I have two step counters to keep track of my steps…I pray I will make it to 100…that’s my goal!!!

And when you walk, put your phone away. Look at the trees. Listen to the birds. Smell the flowers. Look at the clouds. I like to stand under the tree limbs for a few minutes and look up. It's very calming.

Love Dr dhand however, my brother can't sleep. He's up all night and lives on sugar and has dementia. I guess he should get off the sugar but that will never happen. He's outside all day. If he sits he naps.

At my GP practice, they have LOTS of posters encouraging you to take more exercise. When I visited recently for a 24-hr blood pressure monitoring test, I went on my bike - and asked why, with all their posters about taking more exercise, they had nowhere safe to leave a bike. 'No-one comes here on a bike!' they answered. 'That's because there's no-where safe to leave it' I retorted. 'If I'd have known there was nowhere to leave it, I'd not have come on my bike either'. SIGH. Next time it's pouring with rain I'll walk there and divest myself of all my sopping wet outer garments in the reception area, so they have to mop the floor, or it'll be a slip hazard.

A few months ago, I had a herniated disc, and could barely get out of bed on my own power. I hadn't really done any good amount of walking for decades. After the inflammation subsided, I started walking- First a 1/8th mile, then ½, then 1 mile, etc. Every time I went out to walk, I could feel my back getting stronger. Now I'm approaching 4 miles a day, can pick up the grandkids, get in and out of low cars no problem. Not 100% yet, but much, much better. Lost weight, too! Walking is great for the body!

I herniated a disc that was pressing on a nerve 40 years ago. It was one of the most painful things. Im 69 now and have never had a problem with my back since because i looked after it, walked and did all the right things to strengthen my back again. You can heal if you really want to.

I am a 74 year old woman. I’ve always been active. I garden, have a few chickens and still have 3 sweet dogs from foster fails. My husband 78 years, does the yard work and helps me with the care of our Daughter. Our Daughter has Rett syndrome with micro encephalopathy. Her physical ability compares with a 6 month old. She is on 3 seizure medications. Her prognosis was grim. Her life expectancy has been reassessed from 2 years to 30 years, maximum. She is now 55 years old and needs me more than ever.By God’s grace, I wake up every morning for 57 years, with the love of my life! So grateful! Thank you Dr Dhand for all your great advice. God bless all. ♥️

I lost my reason to walk every day about 6 weeks ago when I had to end my puppy's life. I'm about to turn 73 and this message is a wakeup call to get back at it, doggie or not, ASAP. Thank you, Dr. Dhand.

​@@avliskhope you 😂can get a new companion Very sad. My hubby put my cat down a month after my stroke. Sure miss him. My neighbor threw out his cat so I'm blessed with a sweetie. Got to get back to walking. Had at least 3 strokes and 4 seizures. Thank God I'm still upright!!!!! At 74 my back is killing me. Need help with that. Getting old is no fun at all. My mom called them the wonder years cuz you wonder what will go wrong next. Sure miss her.

@@Mary-fn5rl My Mom lived to 93 and had a series of strokes, too. She always fought through them and always recovered enough to keep mobile and lived alone right up to her final week of life. She even kept driving well into her 80's. Keep fighting is the best we can do. I'm not sure about getting another dog, though, as my back is really bad, too. I'm considering a rescue cat which might be easier to care for? Thank you for your comments.

I am in San Diego, 59, and walk 3-4 hours very early every morning. Just before COVID, while walking, I had met one of my neighbors who is Indian from India. He was 80 at that time and we started talking about walking and somehow I inspired him to walk longer. It had been a while since I had seen him and a few months ago when I saw him he hugged me for inspiring him to walk longer. He is now 84 years old and walks 17 miles EVERYDAY, he had walked 887 days straight as of the last time I had seen him a few months ago. He is now off most of his prescribed medication. He said he tells everyone about me how I inspired him to walk longer but I really think he is the one who is inspiring me to keep walking and never stop.

I’m 70. Was diagnosed with high blood pressure, type two diabetes and three stone overweight. That was in September 2013. Changed my diet to no sugar, no cakes, eating much less. I walk 10k steps per day. Swim 3 times per week. Lost a stone and BP is mildly high and dropping. I feel much better.

Yes one of the biggest cases of mistaken identity in human history. Known as Native Americans now but that doesn’t quite do it for me as everyone born in America is a native of America, hence a Native American. Would be interesting to know what they would’ve called them had they not been confused as to where they landed. Perhaps just North Americans?

@@drsuneeldhand No, they are not, they leave mess behind (people taking them in nature do not pick up), they are allowed to roam and run around, many older people are put off walking because of dogs running up to them, even if they are "friendly" they are a hazard. There are also occasional attacks, the word spreads and older people stop walking. Dogs also destroy fragile ecosystems. I walk with friends or alone and try to choose the times when doggie people are less around (they are largely predictable because they live their lives around their dog's need to defecate). Nature and other public places should not be a dog's playground or its toilet.

Both my parents died in an old age home,I saw many people in those homes that were in terrible shape,and suffered accordingly,I am 68 and I am forcing myself to excercise and eat properly for the first time in my life!

Old age homes are awful places -- and they're getting worse as privatization becomes popular with provincial governments. I started walking 3 hours a day just to give myself a chance to stay out of those depressing institutions. And if that stops working, I'll opt for MAID over being an inmate in a nursing home.

I'm 66 y.o. now. Last year I hiked 480 miles on a single trip. It does a lot of good at my age. The year before I slipped on loose rocks after 260 miles and dislocated a shoulder. Oh well. I hiked 9 more miles into town and took a train home. Live to hike another day. Keep up the great advice. Thanks.

While I understand your described method of walking, I would also say that it is very difficult to walk distances, if you have no core strength. It was suggested to me, a long time ago, to use trekking poles. I ignored the advice and really never could get in to walking because of extreme pain during and afterward. Btw, I gave birth to 4 kids without anything, so generally I can take pain. Wanting to be able to go long distances, I finally started using a set of trekking poles. I found that the extra stability allowed me to walk faster than my husband and waaay longer than without them. At the start of a 5 month trip to Alaska last summer, I was unable to walk around a city block, without them. By the end of the summer, in the same city, I jumped out of our vehicle and totally forgot to grab them. I had no problems walking. They made a big difference in helping me build up my core muscles and trained me to walk with a better posture. I love your content. You are a breath of fresh air!

they are wonderful things, I rehabilitated myself with them, no one told me about them I spent years and years with a hip pain complex issue and torn tendons.... couldn't walk at all was in a wheelchair then crutches. Now I walk daily with a backpack with weights no pain. I started walking with trekking poles and gradually got better and better. combined with heated pool therapy. I was not able to walk without them the pain was too much and I hobbled home then had a lot of pain. with the trekking poles I focused on form and slow walking just 500 metres at the time. the walking itself helps strengthen and keep fluid moving.

Dear Dr Dhand I'm 62 and I have recently given up my office job and I am now a dog walker. I have my own dog too. My dog gets walked for 2 hours each day and every dog I walk gets an hour. As well as that, I mostly walk between each dogs home. I'm out every day in nature and I love it. Thank you for your wonderful videos.

As a 74 year old I walk miles daily after doing 30 situps and 30 pushups and 30 minutes of cardio karate exercises. I have always been a very active person and throughout my life have strode for exceptionalism in my exercise programs. I regularly have Traditional Chinese Acupuncture and feel like a 30 year old. I think this video is exceptional and congratulate Dr Dhand on his advice to older people. Stay active ...... Stay alive !!!!!

Town planning decisions and the demonisation of the 15 minute walkable city. Yet every beautiful is a 15 minute walkable city. A walkable city is one where a pedestrian doesn't feel like an outsider or an intruder when walking as one does when walking a few miles along a 6 line main road and can easily attend to daily needs like shopping. The psychology or town planning shapes people default locomotion mode as well as revealing the sad psychology of town planners themselves. The exuberance of energy has pushed us further apart, physically and emotionally, and has directly fuelled the suburbanisation process. The more energy we utilise in our civilisation the unhappier we have become, like like poles of magnets. Energy exuberance has pushed us apart in politics and geopolitics too.

Cause another car to crash into them so they do not reach the parking space before them? Or send a micro meteorite hurling towards their car? Or take control of another car and drive the alarmed driver somewhere else. Just how does this miracle play out. In a universe 96 billion lights years across God decided to give his attention to one petty entitled frustrated driver? Wow!

I’m “pushing” 80. Walk every day, have for years, I walk. I. Nature, but also make a point of not parking near the door to stores. That way, I get an extra walk. I do a lot of art, drawing and painting, but I have to make sure that I get up and take a break. I walk around my house. I wash my car my car, vacuum, mop the kitchen floor, and I swim almost daily from May through September. I ear simple, whole foods, with one weakness…vanilla ice cream. I have no heart problems, no osteoporosis, no high BP, I’m 5’4”, 123 lbs., more or less. I do have osteoarthritis quite serious in my hands, especially my left hand, and a cervical problem from which I sometimes get pain in the back of my head. I manage these problems, take no medications except Advil if I have neck pain at night so I can sleep. I avoid all medical people like the plague. Sorry, I wrote an epistle.

Are you my long-lost twin? Well, I'm a wee bit heavier than you, but am muscular and solidly-built, which is where most of my weight is. I am told I have the BP and bone density of a pre-menopausal woman, instead of one 30 years older ... I do have arthritis in several joints on my left side from old sporting injuries in my 20s, which returned to haunt me when I hit 70, so now find that prolonged walking can be painful beyond a certain point - but a couple of ibuprofen usually solve the issue, together with getting out on my bike for a couple of days rather than walking long distances. I gave up driving when I realised my reaction time was slowing a little and my eyesight deteriorating (although better than many who legally drive, I am assured) which is when I bought a nice folding bike. I do my weekly shop at a big supermarket with my bike, and take it with me on public transport if I go to visit new places for a day or a weekend, in order to explore more widely than I have time for on foot.

When I retired, I looked around at various outdoor activities to do, as going for a walk wasn't enough ...so many required lots of $$, and/or other people to engage with to play any kind of game, golf, tennis, pickleball etc So...I took up stunt kite flying!... it's perfect for me..I get to be outside, tou are moving around, back and forth, walking backwards...thinking, hand eye coordination, etc..I've met other "kite people"...and am learning a new skill, and having a lot of fun. I also have single line kites too, and the joy that colourful kites floating in the breeze gives to others is worth all my efforts...so many positive, happy people comment as they walk by, looking up instead at their phones. I highly recommend this activity to everyone!

I'm 62. I recently moved to a more walkable area. Walkability was one of my main criteria in choosing where to move. I choose not to own a car. There are buses here but I have yet to take one in the 5 months I've been here. I have a little shopping cart that I pull to the grocery store. I actually enjoy my grocery walks the most because pulling the cart seems to help me feel more balanced and grounded. Almost like a reverse walker 😂 . I also sometimes use trekking poles. Shoes are very important. Appalachian trail hikers on RU-vid are the ones who know what shoes are best. I have worked up to an occasional 6 mile walk and it's fantastic. I want to keep walking and live to be "that crazy old lady who walks all over the place with her bag lady cart!" 😂 I was a crippled child and maybe that's made me now immensely appreciate the joy in the simple act of putting one foot in front of the other, getting out under the open sky, down tree lined sidewalks, sun or clouds either is beautiful to me, even the snow, hearing birds singing their hearts out in the early morning, feeling the breezes, enjoying every season. You see and hear and feel so much more on foot. And it's exhilarating and strengthening. I swear I can feel my bones getting stronger when I walk. 👣❤

In the "old country" we are on our feet, walking and working all of the time, not for exercise sake, for necessity. No cars...Some times we'll ride bicycles, weather permitting. Mostly, it's walking...to our jobs (which also require being on our feet), to school, shopping, to events...etc. We don't even think about it. In USA and the West, people sit most of the time...and take numerous drugs if they don't feel good. When I don't feel like myself, I just step outside and start moving...

I love hiking. Nothing better than being out in nature. A great mood boost. It helps to keep my joints more flexible so osteoarthritis doesn't hurt as much. I'm a post-menopausal woman, so weight control is also important to me. Hiking and walking help quite a bit.

I am 58 and I force myself to go to the track even if I don't feel like it. It was hot today in Pa but I made sure i got a mile in. I just started back about a week ago and I have been there about 5 times so far. If it was a little cooler I would have done more but a mile is better than no mile.

Thank you. I’m 76. I have been getting more lazy and I have no real excuse. I try to blame my back pain from scoliosis but I know that my tendency to sit just exacerbates that and weakens my back muscles. I can always walk the hallways of my apartment building if weather is inclement so no excuses. See you in the hallways! 👋🤗

I am 65and have been walking uphill for 45 minutes every morning.I love the cool breeze and birds chirping along side as I walk.I also meet my kind of active people with smiles and good morning wishes.I have been doing this for past 35 years and this is my main source of joy that I look forward to in each and every day.I wish everybody experience this to keep healthy and happy.

Walking is essential over the age of 70. Trouble is most people of that age don't want to walk. So GET A DOG. If you love your dog you will love walking with it. No better little companion. I'm 79, have a mini Schnauzer and I walk 2 miles every day. I was told I have a body of a 55 year old. nice compliment but not sure they weren't being over kind.

Yes!! I really struggle with chronic fatigue, my energy just drops away anytime, anywhere so I've trained my Wolfdogs to assist me to get back to my car, when this fails I put on knee pads and crawl, who cares how long it takes or how muddy it is as long as we've done it.

I’m 63 and have been walking for exercise since my mid 20s. I go 3 miles every day as fast as I can go in almost all weather. The only thing that keeps me from it is ice in the winter as I’m very afraid of slipping and falling. Fresh snow is great (as is snowshoeing), it’s the ice that gets me. Then I exercise indoors, but it’s not the same. The day just isn’t quite right without my morning walk. Thanks for the encouragement to keep doing it.

Great advice as always Dr. Dhand. I'm 67 and walk about 2 miles every day. It's a great way to clear your mind and take in the beauty around us. The world has gone bonkers in many respects, so taking a walk is a great reset. I'm paraphrasing an old Italian saying..." it's alright to take a nap after lunch, but after dinner you should take a walk". If you go to Italy you'll notice many people out in the evenings taking a "passeggiata".

Suneel you are 99% right. I am pushing 70 have had physical issues that have prevented walking. Dr was of no help. Paroxtine does not address real physical issues. Drs need to help folks deal with issues while increasing the walking. Rant over.

I could not agree more. As an 85 yr old woman I have started having walks in the morning at a nearby park. There has been such a great improvement in my body; it has been good for better digestion, greater energy, clear thinking and joy.

I will turn 79 this week. My wife and I cycle in the mountains most days, twenty kilometres or so including 15% gradients. We still ski and hike, we enjoyed six weeks skiing this year. We are both in excellent health, I haven’t seen my doctor since my last annual check a year ago. I really do urge people to make their health and fitness their number one priority when they retire because without your health you have nothing and you are a burden on others.

My adult grandchildren took me on a hike up a steep hill yesterday. I'm 70. I admit I had to dig deep but I made it up and continued the hike right along with them. I just decided one day I want to be able to keep up with them as long as I can. Bragging alert: I managed to beat my 28 year old granddaughter in tricep dips. She gave out and I kept going. It doesn't take long to notice real benefits. Our bodies are amazing and respond quickly to regular exercise. It's so worth it Doc. I feel better than I have in years...and I lost 30 lbs. Just do it. You won't regret it.

I must admit I don't walk a lot at 68yrs of age. I will try and follow this advice. BTW, there's a book called "The Exercise Myth" and it finishes by concluding that walking, and swimming are the best exercices.

Thank you Dr. Dhand, it is extremely important reminder. I am 61 and living in a high rise on 17th floor. Not very happy with it, but for a while, I won't be able to move. So, when life gives you lemons, you make some lemonade - I started to walk down the stairs daily, then up the stairs. At first it was hard to climb more than 3-4 floors before I needed a break, now, 3 months later, I I go up and down without even thinking about it, no break needed. Same with walking - it took me approx 6 weeks to come from barely being able to walk 15 minutes around my neighbourhood to walking 10 kilometres daily. I now feel like I'm 35 again 😊

Gotta share about my father-in-law. Had quadruple bypass surgery just before he retired. After he got back on his feet, he started walking 2 miles a day. First thing in the morning, weather didn’t matter. He started to walk less after he turned 85, but kept walking. He’s not regularly walking now but still does some yard work. He’ll be 96 in August. I’m 66-1/2 and just got back from 2.4 miles. (I can be taught!)

I just turned 62 years old and I have been walking a lot for the last five years. My daily average right now is between 6 1/2 to 7 miles per day which equates too 11,000 steps to 18,000 steps however I hope I can continue this path in my retirement years. I do have a herniated disc, but it does not prevent me from doing what I need to do now which is walking daily. I still am very active but I don’t play sports anymore . This content from this doctor is very correct. Just keep walking for your health.

Another blessing to having a dog!.........My Pomeranian mixed dog loves to walk with me 2 times a day...7 DAYS a week/ I Also do light hand weights 3/5 lbs.....I Do 30 t0 40 squats DAILY, ...30vto 50 reps WITH my hand weights .........I eat a flexible vegetarian way of eating and maintaining my yearly health maintenance....LOTS of water....NO SUGARY FOODS OR DRINKS.....NO RED MEAT OR PORK....NO DELI MEAT OR BREAKFAST MEATS.....NO FAST FOOD OR FROZEN MEALS....ALL OF MY MEALS ARE COOKED AT HOME (I LOVE COOKING)......I love cold pressed extra virgin olive oil...raw organic honey....multi grain bread....wild caught Alaskan salmon, halibut, flounder, lean turkey and chicken, sardines and tuma in water/wild caught....low fat plain Greek yogurt...lots of fresh fruit and vegetables...etc.....Very little stress, I'm spiritual, PRAY DAILY , meditate,.....IT WORKS!

Salmon roams the open ocean before returning to his/her birth area. It brings all that it was exposed to in our toxic oceans. Fukushima, the English Channel region where drums and drums of radioactive stuff was dumped around WW-2. Americas testing grounds where they buried stuffs, the dome has been leaking for decades. Germany dumped plenty on her side around WW-2 also. Chickens have started coming home to roost ladies and gentlemen and all of society is impacted. Put a glow light to your tuna, don't be surprised of what you might see. Bonus, Bonus, Japan is now dumping radiated water into the Pacific, daily now!. If you live in southern America, I will invite you to re-visit your pig phobia and perhaps consider buying a rifle to kill you some wild hogs. Tip, wild is healthy farmed is not. No license needed I believe because these animals are destroying states. I've retired now to Central America but was strongly considering the South precisely so I could hunt pigs. Today I hunt for land crabs, fish and hang out in the jungle much as possible. Do carry Bear spray, a loud horn, for that eventual hello from a Jaguar.

Thanks for stressing this as you age!! Keep those legs strong!!! I bought a Fitbit 27 months ago…(you get badges sent to you as you pass certain milestones) I just got my Nile badge. Walked 4132 miles! I swore I would never walk less than AT LEAST 7500 steps a day and only missed THAT MINIMUM 3 times. (One time I went to bed forgetting to check and I walked 7496!! So frustrating! 🤪) some days I go a lot further. I’ve recently started FIW (fast interval walking..3 minutes fast/regular, 5 intervals).. really good workout. I’ve started weights and doing beginner “knees over toes” guy exercises, which are really helpful for my knees-and leg strength! I’m 77 y/o female… no meds No sugar, ultra processed food or alcohol. I really appreciate your channel and the emphasis on self awareness and self regulation…and not buying into big pharma and big money medical. We have to do as much as we can for ourselves…especially as we age!!!

I used to walk a lot. Then I used to walk/jog on treadmill at apartment clubhouse at 3 am before 5 am work. Then Covid and I had to retire or take the shot. Then I became sedentary. My son got me out and doing hikes in the woods and on trails. I started to feel better. Then he died a few months ago at age 29 and I gave up. Im 64. I cant give up. I need to find a safe place to walk which is my challenge, but I need to.

I do agree. I quit the gym after 63 years when it closed due to the covid nonsense. Since then, every morning I walk on an up and down route for at least 1/2 hour rain or shine, and have replaced my weightlifting with pushups, chinups, squats, etc. Not as strong as I used to be, but at 80 years old, so what? I still have enough energy to do tree work and cut and split firewood, so I guess it's OK. Thanks doctor, for advocating a healthy lifestyle.

Dr. S.D., a huge thank you for the advice. And, btw, it's spot on. I spent about 6 yrs with 8 hr or longer in front of the computer & didn't get up from my chair so I allowed my leg & back muscles to deteriorate further. Now I'm having to rebuild those muscles &, trust me, it's VERY painful at my age greater than 70. My spouse tried to warn me but I didn't listen. I encourage everyone to get up & move & enjoy nature (e.g., flowers, birds, squirrels, trees, smell the fresh air, hear the breeze, etc. There's nothing on the computer/phone one can't view later.

Yes dr Dhand I walk everyday,2 hours long walk 7 days a week, and lap swim 4/7, 40 minutes each time, for decades. That's the best medicine. I barely get sick, cannot remember how it feels a cold flu,and lastly no vaccines of any kind ever. Am 71, was refused many times senior discounts because they said only for 55+. I do often hiking in the mountains along the coast at the point lobos in Carmel by the sea. Its a long all day hike . It's easy for me. You're the best doctor and am visiting your site daily to learn new things. Thank you

There are a number of reasons to walk. But in physiological terms, walking (with good hydration) reduces the viscosity of the blood, improves the flow to all peripheral areas (including the brain) and improves the blood supply to every part of the body. Doing this regularly (along with reasonable weight training exercise) is the equivalent to an "orgasm" for the entire body. Not all people are able to do this due to foot and ankle pain. It is very important that you see a podiatrist if you have difficulty or pain in your foot and ankle. They can provide you with many NON-SURGICAL ways to reduce the pain and discomfort so you can walk regularly. Even if you are very obese and have heel pain. My 92 year old father walks at least five miles per day (I thought he was exaggerating, but I saw his iPhone tracker). He inspired me to start walking myself…and now I have shin splints! I MUST be out of shape!

I had surgery three weeks ago. I found my legs weak. So I started walking to gain strength. It's only been 4 days and I can feel some improvement.

Am a 65 year old guy and underwent a triple bypass in 2012. I was overweight/obese at 255 lbs (5'10) my BP would average in the 155-165 over 95-100+ range. Was prescribed Carvedilol as well as Amlodopine and Lipitor. Over the next year or so, post op, I was on a mission to wean myself off of any medications, much to my GP's and cardiologists chagrin. I did my due diligent research and decided I would implement fasting as well as a 'whole food' eating regimen and a whole lot of juicing. Just last week I had my yearly full physical. My weight is 170 (averages 168-174) as it has been for several years now. My BP averages 114-120/80-88. My total cholesterol is always under 200 with HDL being 72 and LDL 101 on average. My juicing regimen consists of celery, carrots, red beets, kale, with fresh ginger, and an apple for sweetness, and turmeric which I make a one gallon batch of and lasts pretty much all week which I sip on. I am also an avid walker, usually putting in at least 10k steps per day but it's not unusual to go 20k or even more. These are not walk around-the-block steps either, rather - they're (as I refer to them) considerable extended cardio exercizes. I live in the mountains of California north of L.A. and I 'section' hike parts of the Pacific Crest Trail which is anything but flat. On the contrary. Unrelenting 2,3,4, and more mile uphill grades are the geological norm. Of course, going up to the turn around point is half way there, then it's the downhill. Just today my fit bit confirmed 24,655 steps and 12.7 miles. Duration was 3.22 hours. I simply can not over emphasize the absolute transformation. As mentioned above, I am also an advocate of both, intermittant and long term fasting. I do OMAD (one meal a day) as well as a nothing-but-water 14 day fast, twice a year. My doctors had no answer when I told them years ago - I had been non-compliant and opted to pursue healthy whole foods, exercise, and fasting as my medicine. They simply tell me to 'keep on doing what you're doing'. Not in all cases, but certainly some, I am of the mindset that our 'medical system' here in the states is not a health care system at all, but rather a symptom appeasement program not addressing root causes of illnesses opting rather to take the edge off and prescribe a myriad of a medicinal 'cocktails' to numb the symptoms. Now, certainly there are people with health issues and conditions which absolutely require close professional supervision and medications to maintain some quality of life. I am NO doctor and can only speak to what MY life's challenges have taught me and the results I now benefit from. Fifteen years ago when I was 50. Nobody on Gods green earth would be able to convince me I'd weigh what I do now, NOR - be as active with the regimen I have adopted. My energy levels, endurance, cognitive ability, sleep quality, and overall healthy 'state of being' is as good as I can remember them ever being. I recall my grandfather on my dad's side who emigrated here from Austria in 1953 and lived to be 98 telling us two things to always remember. 1.) "Watch the pennies and the dollars wil take care of themselves." 2.) "Water in motion never stagnates. Stagnation takes place once the movement stops, so keep moving" You are so 'on point' Dr. Dhand. I am 78 and I appreciate that you offer some very helpful suggestions to help keep us healthy. I live in Colorado and boy during the winter it is difficult to walk outdoors. I am better at in the summer. I used to walk at the senior center. However I can't do that now. Thank you for caring about us older folks. Living longer lives is good if you are mobile and active. Thank you again. I will start walking more.

Love this time of year - up at 5.30am to walk my dog for an hour. And just about to walk to the shops. No phone, just fresh air and sea breeze. If you dont use it, you lose it. Great advice - a few months from 65 - but a lifetime of dogs keeps you on the move! Love to all from the UK

Always loved walking, I am 66 and now have severe arthritis in my knees, however, I may not be able to walk like I did, but, I purchased a Recumbent bike and use it several times a week, but, still, not as much as I should !!!

Get knee replacements. I have had two and can walk easily. Before I had osteoarthritis that caused pain while walking

Walking is the best exercise for older folks, besides swimming. When I was a kid, people used to walk to the local shops, or we kids all the way to the school. Nowadays, people will take the bus even if it is just a couple of stops, instead of walking there. Thanks for sharing this video.

I walk to the cafe, about 3.4K every day, so a nearly 7k round trip. I have to concentrate to keep my shoulders back, and look straight forward. I am 77, and was forced to retire at 75 for vaccine refusal. thanks Suneel. I am intrigued by your accent, which I notice that other people have from the UK, but seems to be a mixture of older accents😊

I'm a new subscriber in London, England, and I'm delighted to have found your channel. 7 years ago I developed PMR and could barely get out of bed in the morning, let alone walk. Later, during the covid lockdowns we were very restricted in the amount of walking we could do. I got out of the habit of walking very much. Now, at 73 and free of PMR, I've got back into the habit of regular walking, aiming for 5,000 to 6,000 steps most days. While I enjoy walking alone, I also find it beneficial to have a longer walk as part of a group once a week, exploring different areas of our great city. Apart from the exercise benefits, this is an excellent way to meet new friends and to combat loneliness.

From a Chiropractor, I received good advice to walk bare feet for 20mins on dirt, grass, sand. This connects you to the earths magnetic field, which also acts as an antioxidant for the body. The Hippocampus also gets stimuli increasing dopamine. Plus 26 more muscles in your feet are actuated compare to walking on concrete with rubber soles.

I'm 64 and do more physical work now than ever before in my youth. Looking after a baby, cleaning the house, gardening, fostering animals, walking dogs, jumping to conclusions, and and and 😁 Never been fitter!

If you can walk, Start dancing! So many different kinds! Ballroom, Latin, Tango, Tap, Folk, Belly, Ballet, Flamenco, lrish, Line. You don't need money for lessons, so much excellent instruction on RU-vid. With a partner or solo, dance is great for you physically and learning new steps and routines stops cognitive decline. And so much fun listening to your favorite music while you do it. ❤🕺💃❤
