I can’t even imagine how long this took. Firs you gotta hire a band for the background music, singers for backing vocals, a producer to mix the song, a camera and lighting crew, lets not forget about all of the actors, locations and sound stages, and wardrobe for the actors, just so much stuff I can’t even wrap my head around it. I know this is common for films and tv, but seeing where Jon started, it’s really cool to see. Big props to everyone, so proud of Jon, seeing how far he’s come, etc.

This is a really great song. But I wonder how many people took the time to really give it an introspective. The video reflects the song, which is summed up by the final lines; about how the music industry is dying, but commercialism only grows stronger day by day. But the "character" singing the song mentions about how he needs money and lost his house. So it's also a statement about the economy. He's pleading with corporations to use the song for any sort of ad campaign. So there is a necessity for cash. Let's put a pin in that and save it for a moment. Throughout the video, as the various company mascots begin to form a dance party around the band, we see more of the "Suicidal Hotline" guy. At first glance, it would seem a little out of place. Sure, one could argue late night television tends to show those sorts of commercials, but all of the other campaigns are common and happy-go-lucky. So bringing back the pinned concept from before, the "Suicidal Hotline" guy represents, I think, the "singer's" (obviously not Jon Lajoie, but the character he's portraying in the song's), depression and desperation. The idea is "If I can't make the money, if I don't make it. I might as well kill myself." I'm not asking anyone to support that notion or agree with it, but it's very clear that's what the 'character' is feeling. But even if one were to put all of their figurative eggs in one figurative basket, and end it all if things don't work out, the world will keep spinning. Life goes on with or without you. And the companies that you're begging to support you or even just pay attention, will likely just use your death to make themselves even more money. And that's why after the guy shoots himself, you've got "Flo" standing over his corpse selling life insurance. Despite this being intended as a comedy track, I feel like there's enough irony and poignant commentary to make this a legitimate criticism of the music industry, commercialism, and Hollywood. I mean there's a whole wealth of concepts I have not even touched on such as the chords and drum beats used to play the song. This song is absolutely genius. As another commentator said below, I can not even fathom how there are any dislikes to this song. The only valid reasoning would be if people saw through the upbeat tempo and saw the hopelessness and pointlessness of a life in the industry. Viewers should remember that Likes and Dislikes are for quality and concept, not simply how it made you feel emotionally. Bravo, Jon. Bravo.

While it's a great song, the fact that this song was released on RU-vid shows that the industry has changed. The internet basically gave everyone access to pick and choose what they wanted, and you know what? People want that ability more than anything else. So from napster grew Spotify and Pandora, and while those companies pay they artists, they pay them millionths or thousandths of a cent per play, again, set by the new market. People know they can still get it for free but, hey, I'll pay out of a little guilt I feel for basically stealing so here's some money and now everyone is happy, supposedly.Beyond that, most of the money comes from ads, and given the actual success rates of online ads, it's not surprising that the advertising doesn't pay as much per play as they used to. People still buy CD's and Vinyl is making a resurgence, but it's too late. Most of the record stores (except for a few niche, popular ones) disappeared, and ticket sales will always be good, if the band is good. Now. That all being said, in order for an industry to be 'dying' it has to actually be failing, and it's not. It could easily be argued that the music industry exploded with the advent of RU-vid and MySpace, but we are talking about local bands, and independents thriving, not necessarily big name labels (though most do through their stars anyway). What's happening is that some artists are getting paid less, and really, that's ok. Because overall music is growing and open to more of an audience than ever before as well. Edit: One last note. Merch sales can now be totally done by the band independently if they need/want, and take the middleman producer out - providing more funds to the band.

I'm disappointed at how many people are belittling this gentleman in their comments like he is not supposed to be this talented unless he is Robert DeNiro or somebody super famous. WTF? He is clearly professional in what he does. Stop downplaying people, and acting so surprised at what they do. It reeks of jealousy and a lack of respect. Jon Lajoie is excellent and has great videos. Actually, NOFX did this theme first with "Please play this song on the radio". But that song WAS tongue-in-cheek.. not to say NOFX didn't sell out too in the end. Jon's just in a mid-life crisis and took the easy way out to manipulate the masses. It's called "the Henery Winkler syndrome". One day you're cool daddy-o Arthur Fonzarelli, the next your Mr. Winkler making children's books for your 3 kids.

We had a case nearby of a father killing his family by using - I think it was an axe or something. The first responders described the scene as extremely bloody with brain matter over the walls. One (or was it two?) child(ren) survived in spite of having been axed in the head and losing brain matter because the medics did not declare her/them dead (I'm not sure if her sister survived as well). They were scheduled to visit a ceremony in memory of the events, so even though I don't know their exact neurological outcome, they were at least not hospital-bound. Haven't followed the story since. But it's not a rare thing. You've probably heard about the guy with the metal rod stuck in his head, which changed his personality? Or neolithic archeological finds of stone-age people performing (successful) basic brain surgery, evident by well-healed holes in skulls of people who have been confirmed to have aged afterwards and died years later? Now of course, the doctor is an actor portraying an actor. And a real doctor probably wouldn't have helped much. As an EMT, I'd be obliged to attempt to resusicate until a doctor declares the patient dead or decides to chance it and get them to the hospital. Oh, reminds me of another case. Suicide by gun to the head in a park, patient died, but only after having been alive for several minutes and resusicated for some more.
