I remember when they put the limit on who people could contact based on a certain age limit. At the time I was 18 and I wanted to contact a woman on POF who was about 32 and really beautiful looking and looking at what she wrote in her profile she had a lot of things in common with me (especially since in her profile she said she was into younger guys in my age group) and I then find out the hard way that the POF website themselves placed a limit on all users where no one could contact anyone who was 14 years or more older and younger than them. This was incredibly bad since I was already having problems getting messages from women who were around my age at the time (99% of guys will confess that they barely get messages from women during their time on POF, so it's incredibly bad for most guys on there) so the fact that they isolated me away from older women was a complete deal breaker for me. I hated it and I left. Many other people left as well since a lot of younger women also like older men and vice versa (as well as guys like me being very open to dating an older woman). I imagine POF lost lots of people because of that and things got worse from there and that's part of the reason they are in incredibly bad shape at the moment.

I met my wife on POF in 2014. I met about 10 women in real life over a 2 month period, and then I found the girl of my dreams (my current wife). I would say that aside from that 1 really crazy woman that I met on there, that my experience with the platform was quite successful. I really liked the fact that I could send messages directly to women because this is where I could be most effective. It's unfortunate what happened to the platform. I can't blame the creator for selling out ($575 million is quite a large fortune). Maybe an ethical capitalist out there will try to recreate something like POF in the future.

I'm 63 and can tell you from a lot of history to draw from... dating and socializing in general has changed dramatically, and not at all for the better. When I was younger, dating was fun, and everyone looked forward to the weekend.

I had a message (VERY RARE THAT IS) about three weeks ago. It looked legit but I did a Google search of the images this 'woman' had on her profile and they were about 400 miles from where she said she lived. The next day her message and profile disappeared, meaning POF had probably deleted the scammer's profile.

I love when people say stupid stuff like, "THE ONLY TRIED AND TRUE METHOD IS TO GO OUT AND MEET PEOPLE!". Go where ? Where do you want people to go ? Such a stupid thing to say. You can't approach females today almost anywhere without being made out to look like an absolute fool or made to feel like some sort of weirdo. What the hell are you talking about "go out and meet people"? Maybe that worked in 1951 when you could go to the "malte shoppe" and women actually acted like women, sitting there in their dresses waiting for the guys. Today you'll get put in jail.

@@r3games1985 It really is one of the worst. Women have been fed this narrative that they don't "need no man!", so they're just focused on careers and their own lives. Then, when they're desperate and alone in their later years, they'll want the top 0.00001% of guys. In short, it's all about them 100% of the time, and they'd rather die alone than feel like they're "settling" for an average guy. In reality, that "average" guy would be settling for them.

We also aren’t able to see if she’s been recently active. It use to say at the top right hand corner, but now it’s quite literally a shot in the dark for the boys. Kinda discouraging.

It's pretty sad when the companies running these sites are more predatory than the users and even the scammers found there. That's what is really putting me off of dating sites. They steal your photos and are legally entitled to do what they please with them even after you delete your account!! Most people don't even know it!

It will still let you message them.. it's just a notice telling you that you have limited chances. It's usually based on what rype.of relationship you are looking for. So if she's looking for long term and you have nothing serious, it will throw that warning up.

They apparently changed the UI again earlier this year in Jan 2024 and you can now message back and forth normally. But it is pretty terrible, even for females. The site feels emptier than the Mariana Trench and I don't recommend it. It's probably not worth it for a guy...
