🔹 In this video, I aim to clarify Plotinus' Theory of Emanation echoed in "The Enneads." Initially, we should neither reject this doctrine nor should we approve it! Taking either one of these positions is the second step in any philosophical and theological investigation. The first step is to study the matter fairly and objectively and understand it fully before judgment. In this video, I only take the first step with you; the second step is yours! I hope this video gives you a clear picture of this influential doctrine.

Rightly said toward the end about personal mystical experience being the basis for devising such cosmological schemes to clarify realities. Those who accuse Sufis of neoplatonism fail to see that we live in the same one universe, so there is bound to be shared perceptions. It does not mean that one who came later borrowed the idea from someone else who came earlier. There can be differences in understanding of technical details and how we express them in language, but the overall picture is always similar. Call it the "One" as Plotinus, or "God", "To Him is due the primal origin..." (Quran, 2:117)

Thank you for your kind words and for your great explication of this fine point! Yes, similarity does not mean copying!

If sufis were discovering things which platonists were saying, doesn't it mean platonists came to knew reality without their belief in Islam? Does it also not mean that they had some part of truth without prophetic revelations? Also, for some sufis Plato was a prophet or have higher rank in afterlife.

@@TupacMakaveli1996 Yes Cause Truth is Gradational, anyone who's willing to seek for with True Heart will find it by the Will Of God. That's why you'll see many traditions even apart from Islam shares the belief of Emanation, Absolute transcendent Impersonal God,Universal Soul. It's the effect of Universalism

@TupacMakaveli1996 no. Certain veils may be unlifted by God to those in search of Truth. But these people r not necessarily Prophets, they r exceptional people however. However guidance to Humanity as a whole comes from revelation to Prophets to humanity, not every tom dick and Harry is a plotinus

Brilliant! Thank you for clarifying these foundational concepts. I tried a few times, but your video made it more evident. Thank you again. May God bless your soul and intellect.

I experience lot of creativity and intuition during meditation which I learned to do over 40 years ago. I didn’t know where it was taking me but to say that I am a visual artist and find creativity and inspiration in general quite easy. The philosophical area that you describe, for me the intellectual area, is akin to the other side of the connection needed to communicate and ‘interface’ (probably could use a better word here) the good. I’m reading Plotinus, written by Elmer O’Brien to make sense of my creativity and make sense of why it comes to me. Thank you so much for explaining and helping me to understand a little better. I say a ‘little’ better because it’s taking me a while to comprehend it all. Thank you

You are welcome. Glad to be of help. For this purpose you might also find Islamic mysticism/sufism familiar and helpful, especially, Rumi, Ibn Arabi, Shabistari, and Fayd Kashani.

He was almost certainly a ethnic Greek. He was just born in Egypt, which was Roman at the time

Theory can be helpful. But it's personal experience that really matters. Sufism offers that experience through it's understanding of the "lataif" . . . which are the Sufi equivalents of "emanations".

I like to understand the World Soul as gigantic organism with extension(tendrils/individuals souls) we are extensions of the World Soul. Not separate but an “extension”.
