i ve had the same winch on my cub tractor for years, and yes you can trash the cable if your not paying attention ,i have this thing where i double up on the cable ,basiclly thread it through a nut an a little grinding put both ends of cable though and the nut works as the cable stop ., then i have double the cable but still only the same ratio lifting i like this.and will try it on my next build.

very nice , i just bought a used plow that has one of these actuator winch unit . But i have to order the wiring harness and the switch for it. then i will try to do what you did to yours. thanks rocky

why not use the winch??? thts what i use for plowing snow with my 4 wheeler

Ok looks good. But the most important question- How long has this lasted, and over time what problems have shown up?

+rich mil : Good question. I've plowed every snow in Western Maryland for me and three neighbors for seven years, without incident - literally miles - average lane is 1/4 mile.

+JB Holdway looks good then cables wear fast. this type of wire rope is not ment to be used like this. it's a winch to pull you out of the mud. good job.
