Definitely the best survival channel on RU-vid by far. Thank you so much. The corporal is good but it’s to arts n craft stuff for me now. You are straight to the point.

So pleased to see that you recognize and address the importance of obscuring the straight lines. Without paying attention to this detail, even the best blended camo will not achieve concealment. You have a gift for no b/s communication and instruction. Well done sir. Stay safe stay warm from UK.

What I like about this also is that if you did hear someone coming your way you could cut the ridge line and really be low profile

This I think is a better way to set up a plow point shelter. Looks like more room inside when it’s set up this way verses the other way. This set up seems to be popular among the stealth campers. Good job! You sir just got yourself another subscriber!

This is my go-to shelter set up for all 4 seasons, aqua quest tarps are the best in any type of weather. With this set up you can easily have a fire in front of you and the tarp will trap the heat inside to stay warm. Ive used this same set up in 0 degree storms.

Thank you for this video. I feel that the plow point is the preferred low-profile, low-visibility tarp pitch. Hiding the edges is an excellent tip. The human mind looks for straight lines and dots or small circles, because a straight line is the line of a deer's back, and the dot or small circle is the deer's eye. Those whose vision did not spot such things did not survive. Hide such things from the view of others and they will pass you by.

It’s always been drummed into my head that once you’ve achieved a basic shelter, start looking at ways of using your remaining inventory and your surroundings to improve upon it. Starting with this basic design if there is heavy rain it starts to pool right at the edges where your plow point meets the ground so put a stake down inside the tent near the back and run two low to the ground lines from it in an angle just a little bit less than 90degrees . I then re stake the corners pulling the tarp back in under this line. This creates a slight overhang that sheds rainwater away from the tents. The harder the rain the more acute that angle can be . I will also carve a couple of sticks with one well rounded and smooth end to be used as tent poles or simply to push up a bit on the sagging tarp to shed the rain off once I’m tucked inside. More line running from my corner stakes up to my ridge line coins be used in conjunctions with any garbage bags I might have to help close of the opening to improve weather resistance.

We went out last night to Kisatchie. The gf came along so it wasnt too rough. The wind was gusting 20-30mph and temps dropped down to about 30°. The tent we used sucked. Every gust of wind sucked the warmth right out of the tent. I will go again very soon.

I have the defender in 10x10 camo and another in 10x13 in olive drab. After watching the video, I'm wondering if the olive drab would have worked better in that environment vs the camo in a more densely wooded environment. I like using natural forest floor debris on it. I never think of that stuff.

Hey I have a huge problem. I literally just went stealth camping a night ago and I know I wont always be 100 percent warm but I got fairly cold. I cant stand being in my sleeping bag. It's to narrow. What are some ways I can sleep and stay warm without a sleeping bag?
@halphwit9527
@halphwit9527 5 лет назад
You using any kinda of insulation from the ground? You could try a hammock with under quilt. Or just get a bigger sleeping bag/better base layers.
@SurvivalTheory
@SurvivalTheory 5 лет назад
Use the sleeping bag as a thick blanket under you. Get a wool blanket over you in addition to insulated underwear and shirt. If you need more insulation, use both on top of you and get some other kind of insulation between you and the ground. Of course, lots of leaves or pine needles can work under and over you to help with insulation. If funds are available check REI or Amazon for a larger ...and lower temp sleeping bag. Thanks for the view and comment!
@gjnezat
@gjnezat 5 лет назад
John, I am normally cold person. First, change your clothes that you were wearing during the day, especially socks. Use the tops of the sock to dry your feet. Apply foot powder. Consider a really thick pair of socks that are just for sleeping. Leave these in your sleeping bag. Think about a pair of silkwieght long johns. Military surplus is ideal Have a good insulator between you and the ground. Frequently ill use my sleeping bag as a blanket, sticking my feet in and putting it over me.wear a knit cap. Prevents heat loss. If you have a water bottle put hot water in it and wrap it up in layers you are not wearing. Put this betwen your thighs. Try this and report back please.

I've heard of people putting rocks around their fire. Put the hot rocks under your feet, around them. I've heard Natives would bury the rocks under dirt (the depth is the key, too little dirt and you get too hot or burnt). It sounds like work tho. I sure haven't ever done it. I'm a hot person.
