One of the few tarp set-ups that keeps you dry, holds fairly well against wind, and doesn't trap too much heat during the heat of summer.

Hmmm, or that pocket could be left alone long enough to collect drinking and cooking water!

Still think I'm going to get one of those mosquito pop ups. You can work all kinds of shelters around them and your 360 contained inside the net. Nice footprint and tarp shelter and you're set. I don't camp in the winter anyways unless it's in the desert LOL.Thanks for the video man. Some really nice simple information.

You got me thinking that I should get a lighter tarp. I do have two good lightweight camo ponchos and two heavier plastic tarps one of which is 9+ by 12+ which gives me lots of options and the smaller one for a separate ground cloth. I appreciate your videos.

if your rope ridgeline goes thru were your side pullouts are , not to the strings tied to the pull outs , the ridgeline of tarp will be taunt enough not to catch water.

I'll check that out. Thanks for the view and comment!

What about pulling the front flap towards the ground if its raining? This would give you more protection as well. Great video for a great setup, thanks!

Thanks for this video. Hello from Scotland. Can you tell me what shirt that it? It looks cool (literally). My tarp (Hilleberg 20) doesn't have any attachment points on the body of the tarp, just along the sides. I suppose a marble could be used to create one for the back to pull it out. I wonder how that would work in strong wind though (like we get here all the time).

You must be in east texas somewhere? Piney woods maybe?. Sure are some beautiful parks out that way but mosquitos will carry away a grown man in the summer.
@jamesparker6383
@jamesparker6383 2 года назад
My question is, couldn't you just lower the front so the water doesn't go toward the back?
@SurvivalTheory
@SurvivalTheory 2 года назад
If you pull the front and all points tight enough that helps, but there tends to be a ripple line at the ridge that can collect water over time. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Great informative video. Those Chill Gorilla tarps are both affordable and can make a great sturdy shelter. That 550 sure makes great ridge lines as well as having other multiple uses. I'm assuming you face the rear of the tent into the wind. If the tarp is the right shape, you can even make a shelter with a floor and a door with a single tarp. It makes the shelter a little smaller, but for cold weather it will keep the floor under you dry, and keep the elements out, much like a tent. I like the way you mention both the pros and the cons. Thanks for posting.

Nice shelter... I bought one of those Cnoc Outdoors Vecto 2L Water Containers you recommended but the order was cancelled with the following message from Amazon: Unfortunately, your package was damaged or it contains hazardous materials We sent you a refund for this shipment, and we’re sorry for the inconvenience. I have never seen that before, usually they just send another product, so maybe you should check if it is deadly to use :)

Actually, the water collection on the roof isn't such a bad thing. That's free water that you don't to work for. I'd still boil it though because of organic contaminates. I happen to like this set up. It works well most of the time except when it get's colder. Even with a fire that's too much open space to try to heat up.
