Were those fittings and pipe that you replaced leaking? Looked like some surface rust and I couldn't really see in the video where the old pipe and fittings had holes in them. Also, to ensure that you're applying proper torque to the no hub couplings you just installed, you really need a torque wrench set to 60 in/lbs (80 in/lbs for heavy duty/husky couplings) instead of that impact driver. Should've done the simple things first like checking to see if the drains were backed up before you opened the ceiling. Would've probably saved some time. Clear the drains out from the bathroom up top first and then find out if you still have other leak problems in the ceiling afterward. Snaking the drains out from inside the ceiling below is a good way to get soaked and filthy when the blockage releases with all the water behind it.

Those fernco's are for venting and to save you if a waste line breaks in an emergency they are not meant to be used like that hack did in that application. They where all leaking because (pressure ) built up because of a back up, they also have to be torqued to a specific inch pound. I learned that from a old time pipefitter. I was on a job and said slap a fernco on that shit and he went off on me.

He wasn't using Ferncos though...he was using no hub couplings. They're supposed to be used with cast iron no hub pipe and fittings. There's nothing wrong with him using the no hub couplings. I do agree that he doesn't have the proper 60 in/lbs of torque applied to those new couplings (80 in/lbs for heavy duty/husky couplings) because he's using an impact driver instead of a torque wrench to tighten them. As for Ferncos, I use them quite a bit with repairs. As a matter of fact, I've used a metal shear band around the Ferncos and I think they hold up better than the no hub couplings, IMO. Not saying that I use Ferncos exclusively to connect drain pipe. To each their own, but he ain't wrong for using approved materials for this application unless code says it's wrong. However, I will question as to whether or not he knew what he was doing the whole time. He seemed to have changed out the pipe and fittings simply because they "looked terrible" and may not have necessarily been leaking or in imminent danger of leaking. Didn't see much on the fittings and pipe other than surface rust.
