Plumbing Pressure Test & Rough-In Inspection | Off Grid Homestead Build Ep21 | The ShabinLife
Hey Everyone,
Hope all is well... It has been a little while since the last video as I've been dealing with a few health issues. I'm happy to say that I'm getting better and hopefully headed in the right direction... blah, blah, blah. This video was difficult to edit as there was a lot of info I wanted to include regarding the testing of the DWV & Water Lines... Tried to narrow it down to a half hour so I didn't bore you (without leaving out important clips, lol). Hope you enjoy... I believe I will be shifting gears a little bit regarding the channel as a whole. Would like to include a bit more of us simply living our life (which inlcudes a lot more than simply building a house) as well as keep the videos a bit shorter. Have fun and enjoy!!
ShabinLife RU-vid Channel:
Welcome to the ShabinLife channel here on RU-vid!
We’re Dayna & David and we're excited to share our homestead journey with you. We currently own a home on a 1/4 acre in a suburb of Pennsylvania & have been trying to maximize usage of our small plot to it’s fullest potential. In 2016, after dreaming for years of owning enough land to live a more simple and sustainable, self sufficient lifestyle, we acquired 18 Acres & began the journey of building our future homestead! Our land is quite far from where we currently reside which limits our trips to the property to once a month or so. For the time being we post new videos (or at least try, lol) once a month with updates on how things are moving forward, our pits and peaks as well as sharing all the priceless info we’ve learned from the amazing channels we subscribe to here on RU-vid. Please join us on our ShabinLife adventure as we continue Living Simple & Loving Nature.

Dude this is epic. I’m literally in the middle of plumbing my own home, first time, trying to build an A frame house and pass inspections! Thank you for sharing

Thanks Drew & that's awesome... A Frame's are sweet!! We wish you all the best on your build & I'm sure you'll have no problem passing inspections. Hopefully you have an inspector that's educative and not a pain in the azz, lol.

After having a couple of headaches with having to redo screw-in/on fittings, I learned the true value of union fittings. They may be somewhat expensive at first but down the road they are worth their weight in gold if any problems arise. Just a helpful tip to save future headaches.

I couldn't agree more and will certainly be introducing unions in the future if only just for service related issues. Thanks again for the great tip & info, always appreciated!! Have a great weekend!

Nice work.I’m about to test the plumbing for my addition the same way which has 2 bathrooms. We were going to water test it but temps are going into the 30s and I can’t risk it freezing.

You should always check for leaks on a guage of maximum twice the testing pressure. Such as a 10# guage for 5. 15# for 8 etc.
@shabinlife

Thanks Don, appreciate the heads up & info. Electrician by trade, so this was the first full plumbing job for me... All good so far, lol. Have a great weekend!
@don2deliver
@don2deliver Год назад
@@shabinlife Yeah it's not always possible, because of the pressures and situation. My friend had a plumbing inspector give him a hard time because he used a 200 psi guage for checking a system with 50 psi. I once used a 50 psi guage to check a gas line that I put up to 11 psi. It was a new house and the plumber apparently had gotten a bad batch of leaking 1/2 pipe elbows. After they finally fixed it they took the guage off to use it on another job. I rigged up the guage and went to the gas company dispatch center in the morning to make sure they would send someone out that day to test and install the meter.

Why aren't you testing at service pressure?
@chrismulvagh2869
@chrismulvagh2869 Год назад
Great video. I just wonder why you have a little space between the king stud beside and to the right of the door. Maybe it's to keep framing exactly 16" o/c but in this case, I think I'd a just done a double king as to insulate that little space just a pain to do guess ya foam it or stuff fiberglass in it. I'm just finishing a build ICF to trusses and it's my 1st after doing several basements only in ICF and love it only way I'll build from now on. Insulation is done sheathing, vapor barrier, etc all after concrete pour is done. ICF eliminates several steps in a build let alone energy efficiency benefits and with the cost of all the materials that need to be bought in a conventional build is faster and cheaper and better when all is said and done in my opinion. Please your great videos coming.

Hey Chris, thanks for the message & apology for the delayed response. Yeah, just keeping things on center & ended up tight behind the door when we changed the size (you know how that goes on the fly, lol), but definitely added some light insulation between the small gaps. I absolutely love ICF builds and if I ever do this crazy shit again by myself, I will definitely be headed that direction for certain. Always appreciate the tips, tricks & info everyone leaves here... it helps to make better decisions in the future! Thanks for stopping by & checking things out. Have a great weekend & if you're an angler, enjoy opening day of trout this week!

40psi? I'm on a well and water pressure is maxed at 65psi. When testing here I think it needs to be tested at 80psi.
@shabinlife

Wow 80psi... That's a lot of pressure 🙂! Appreciate you checking out the channel/video. Happy New Year!

Hard to see because you have the wrong gauge! Also, never more the 5 psi on pvc...it will blow up in your face.

Why are you going counter clockwise wrapping the Teflon tape?

Hmmm… Normally I wouldn’t. It may have just been a one off while recording & working at the same time.

Hey William, all the PVC in the house is Sch40.

Why not use fernco rubber quick caps save money
@billsnyder6945
@billsnyder6945 3 месяца назад
No problem taking back extra stuff you bought just in case but never use, using something you need to have, even if once, and taking it back is BS.

@bojangles_bonjangles8000
@bojangles_bonjangles8000 Год назад
Nice work, but you should never pressure test with air. Even 10 psi would be a cannon if there was a crack in the pipe somewhere. Cap the stub outs with rubber caps and fill from above. 10’ of head is 4.3 psi.
