I've long had the Folktek Matter mk1 and today I received the Manifold Research Center Tetragrid. The Tetragrid is a eurorack "anti-sequencing" module based on Peter Blasser's Rollz and Roolz circuits, variations of which are in the Plumbutter 2. So.. One of the first things I wanted to do when this arrived was to revive my Folktek Matter as, like Plumbutter, it claims to be a kind of drum machine. Of very interesting tones and textures. As it is a eurorack module, sequencing/triggering the 8 inputs of the Folktek is left as an exercise. And with the Tetragrid, I feel I finally have something worthy of doing the more organic sequences and textures like the Plumbutter, but ... in its own odd way.
Also involved - more Peter Blasser modulation goodness with Ieaskul F Mobenthey modules. And a single Noise Engineering Clep Diaz providing some stepped modulation.
The Folktek's monophonic output is routed into Make Noise Mimeophon. Also freshly arrived. It's primarily set up to add some texture. A couple of the Tetragrid's outputs are multiplied out to spread clocking/triggering to Mimeophon and Clep Diaz to keep things roughly in sync while still organic.
Change occurs by using the magnetic game pieces of the tetragrid as well as repatching the breadboard connections of the Folktek Matter. And occasional tweaks to the Mimeophon, including going full dry at a couple of points to just let the Matter play.
