I have a more expensive digital Nikon for "serious work", but just picked up a used X-Pro2 for something lighter and for more personal moments. I was about to order the amazing Voigtlander 27mm f2 lens to go with it (busting the budget), and am serious thinking I want one anyway but then I thought I'd stumble on this review. Man! this TTartisan, or rather the images you've showed from it is a must have. People pay C$85 for a Black mist filter and this lens has is built in, and in spades lol. I'm not being sarcastic. This type of lens, combined with Fuji nostalgic film simulations is the closest one can get to an analogue (filmesque)result I feel. Don't excuse the lens flare. Don't excuse the lack of sharpness. Go out and walk around with this lens. Enjoy the manual focus, and make images. Take a tripod ( like they used to), when shooting at night. Cheers.

1:50 LOL... not anymore. The silver ones (which for whatever reason are cheaper) in decent to good shape bottom out at the $250 area. The black ones are $350-$450 dollars which is absurd. You can get a used X-T1 for that. A far better camera with quicker focus, newer sensor, elec. viewfinder, etc etc. People be acting loco out there on ebay.

It's wild that these irrational prices have gotten to the X-M1. In some ways, I get it :it's got the sleek minimalist styles of the X-E4 (which itself is madly overpriced these days). But in other ways: the X-M1 missing so much of what I think of as the Fuji X charm! Its mode of operation (beyond just the PASM dial) is so different from my other Fujis.

Enjoyed your review and I think I'll end up with an x M1. There's now a mark 2 version of the 7 artisans 18 mm out , so maybe I'll also get one . Thanks for the review.

dude... they're like $350-$450 dollars now. That's absurd for what this camera is and it's age. You can get an X-T1 for that price. (the silver ones are a little cheaper I noticed).

I have a doubt about recipes. When you put +2 in shadows does it mean you put more shadows or is it like in lightroom, the contrary? How about NR? Thanks in advance!😅
@sclogse1
@sclogse1 11 месяцев назад
Plus 2 darkens the shadows. In the jpegs, not the raw. The advantage in jazzy jpegs is you can get an idea what you can do with your raw file. If you really want to just shoot jpegs, I recommend keeping the setting neutral so you have as much room to play later. By the way, it's not a plastic body. It's magnesium. I recommend trying manual focus in video. I highly recommend getting the 16-50 Version II lens with it. It never fails. Then get your fancy vintage or expensive Fuji lenses. I just did an author photo for a friends new book, and chose the 16-50 for the flexibility, and the fact that it never misses the focus. What's cute is this camera has a macro setting. That works with the 16-50. You don't need to use the macro setting for later lenses. I also own an X-H1 and a T-2. I shot the author job with the X-H1. I like image stability. The 16-50 has it, and combining it with the IBIS in the X-H1 is a win win.

Hi all, In my opinion, the price of this lens means you can't complain too much but if you were thinking of using it for street photography using zone focusing, think twice. At first glance the construction looks good; good weight and all metal. However the focus ring screws seemed too weak to me. Regardless of the fact that its diaphragm range is probably not f2 to f16 but darker, the biggest problem with this lens is that the focus is poorly calibrated. Not only in my case, I have found more users with the same complaint. Focusing by focus peaking at 1 meter the ring marks 0.8 approximately, focusing by focus peaking at 3 meters the focus ring marks 1.5 approximately. This makes certain types of street photography impossible. The one where you rely on the focus marks on your lens to pre-focus when you don't want to use the viewfinder to avoid drawing attention to yourself. In principle this problem should be easily solved by loosening the focus ring and adjusting it. But the TTArtisan 25mm f2 has another big problem, even if you loosen all the focus ring screws the focus ring is still attached to the focusing mechanism and cannot be adjusted. At least it can't adjust smoothly as it should, I don't know if reaching the end of the range and applying more force it could be adjusted. Finally, although the friction of the diaphragm ring is correct, the friction of the focus ring is too soft and there is no doubt that you will lose focus with the slightest touch. All in all, a good buy if you rely on the focus assist of your mirrorless camera but a bad buy if you want to zone focusing.
@jshell
@jshell Год назад
That's a good point. Thank you. I've found this to be the case with a lot of these low-cost lenses - which I still love and think are a lot of fun and provide character - but their calibration is pretty sloppy. I primarily use them now on cameras that have good focus peak highlighting. I think I've only had a couple where I felt really confident in zone focusing. Although it seems results do vary - my TTArtisan 25mm f2 has a really solid feel to its focus, while my 7 Artisans 25mm f1.8 has that "slightest touch and focus is lost" experience. As such, I do use the TTArtisan more now as it feels a little more solid (to me).

Hi! I just got my Fuji X M-1 last Sept. 1 2022. , as a gift for myself. Very good camera. a semi pro camera, that can be used for a point and shoot too. Liking the camera, coming from a full frame Nikon system. Small, light, easy to use, & also affordable. Thinking of getting your recommended lens, 7 Artisans 18mm. Thanks for your sharing experience.

Hi! The Fuji X M-! is (got it last August 2022) my entry camera in the Fuji world . Inspire by youtubers, Gonzalez & Orange. Coming from a Nikon fan boy, Fuji offers a new exciting experience, in my photography life. It's likes going thru old films and time capsule. You got to have one Fuji X M-1, to experience, what I mean. Thank you so much for sharing. Very Kool Hermit. ! Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.

Ive been struggling with my photography mojo most of 2022 - I've been a keen amateur photographer for a long time - circa 35 years.. I decided to downsize my photography gear considerably in 2022 backo to two cameras and a couple of lenses - I love why Fuji XT1 and moistly with old lenses - Olympus would be a favourite and I still have my Canon 7D - so hopefully I will restart my Photography mojo in 2023 and I also wish you the very best with your plans in 2023 -Happy New year from Ireland -- (Paul)

Great review! What is the speed differnce between the ttartisan 25 f2 vs 7artisans 25 f1.8? Read somewhere that the ttartisan 25 f2 goes brighter than f2.
@jshell
@jshell Год назад
Good question! I don't know the answer to that. 1.8 and 2.0 seem pretty close. Since there are so many of these cheap 25mm lenses across all the Chinese makers (Meike, Pergear, Voking, all seem to have their own variation of this), I wouldn't be surprised if the TTArtisan 25mm f2 was really a 1.8 but was easier to market as an f2 along side their similarly-designed 50mm f2. The tolerances on these low cost lenses seem pretty loose while still delivering decent pictures.

Interesting review of the title XM1.. I have been rooting about looking for a small form factor always in your pocket camera and as a long time Fuji X user - I always regretted selling my Xpro and XT1 camera bodies -- and the XT1 in particular.. I did consider the XM1 and I was recently offered a very clean XT-1 body at the right money and I am very tempted to buy it .. I have the Fuji 27 pancake which is a cracking little lens and I note the XM1 is getting pricy .. I now shoot with XH-1 and I bought that camera body specifically to shoot with vintage lenses - the IBIS works its magic - greetings from Ireland
@jshell
@jshell Год назад
I find myself constantly tempted by the X-T1 myself, despite my preference for the rangefinder style bodies. The X-T1 is still so compact! And for a while it was crazy cheap though it seems prices (at least on sites like MPB) have ticked up again recently. I also find myself interested in the X-H1 and I really really love my other X-Trans III cameras and am drawn to the X-H1 for its looks (it feels more like an old-school medium format SLR with that big viewfinder faux-prism) and wanting that big body and IBIS for doing landscape/outdoor photography with big heavy zoom lenses that don't feel quite as at home on an X-Pro. But yes! It seems like all used Fuji camera prices have gone a bit crazy lately! Especially the rangefinder style bodies and it's kind of weird seeing that hit even the X-M1.

I’m fortunate to have several great Fuji lenses . I just recently purchased this little lens and I have to agree with your sentiment .. “I’m happy to have it in my life”. It’s a good little pancake lens for my Fuji xt3. I’m surprised by the quality of the pictures it’s taken for the price.

Between the 7artisans 25mm f1.8 and the Ttartisan 25mm f2, Ttartisan’s lens is probably the better lens because of the clicked aperture ring and better barrel distortion performance and vignetting but on the other hand the 7artisans’ lens has a silver colour option… i want a silver lens to match my camera… stuck in a predicament 🥲😭
@jshell
@jshell Год назад
I know the feeling! I wish this was in silver too. I just picked up an old silver Leica T and got a silver TTArtisan 35 f1.4 and it matches so nicely. But I prefer this focal length and really like this little 25mm lens from TTArtisan and want it for my T and wish it matched. There’s no 7 Artisans 25 1.8 at all for L mount.
