10 years of plush making and I never thought of using paper towels to make my patterns! That's so clever. I've been buying cheap fabric or using old sheets or leftover scraps, but paper towel seems so much more user friendly because it obviously won't fray or stretch!
This is exactly what i was looking for! As a beginer sewer, the idea to sew before cut the little pieces just blew my mind.... much easier than other wise. :D Thank you
I’m doing research for making a plushie and while YouTubing various techniques and tricks I keep stumbling upon your videos, over and over again! A sure sign I should just subscribe already.
That's super interesting. I think this might have actually helped me a lot. I'm not much of an artist, but I think I can handle some simple shapes for the pattern.
My silly idiotness thought that was Aubrey from OMORI (headspace version) in the thumbnail until I saw this was made 7 years ago also 10/10, looks squishable
For each part you can either use a ladder stitch to close them up before attaching to the head, or sew them closed as you're attaching them. So for the hair on the back of the head I close the opening as I'm attaching it to the head, and for some of the bangs too. On other parts I sew them closed first and for some it isn't necessary because they will be hidden underneath another piece :)
Hello! I have a quick question: how long does it take you to make one doll? I've been doing some sewing lately and making one plushie takes me over a day (even when im using sewing machine). I've been wondering if I'm this slow or it's just takes this long (also thanks for the video, it's super helpful :) )
Hi! Yes making a plushie can be very time consuming depending on how complicated it is. For me it can take only a few hours when it's simple, or it can take weeks if I need to draft a new pattern, add a lot of details to it etc. It's also harder when you start out because there's a lot to learn. Glad the video helped! Good luck on your projects :)
Hi there! Minky is just what it's usually called, but if you're looking for it, you can try searching "cuddle" or "plush" fabric as that's what some websites call it instead. If you're looking for a less expensive alternative, you can also use felt or fleece to make hair. Though it won't have the short fur pile like minky does.
They answered another comment on the hair, they replied: "For this video I used something called Minky which you can get at sites like babybedding.com and fabric.com But you can also use fleece :)"
Hi yes, you can find all my patterns on my site dollphinwing.com, the particular body pattern used here is the chibi person though which I've now linked to in the description ^_^ Here it is for your convenience: www.etsy.com/listing/263053288/pdf-doll-pattern-chibi-person-plush-ufo?ref=shop_home_active_20
Hello! :) This video is how I do faces on my dolls, I put the fabric right through the printer after taping it to the paper: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oBGEdrwF-h0.html And this pattern is for sale in my store: www.etsy.com/listing/263053288/pdf-doll-pattern-chibi-person-plush-ufo?ref=shop_home_active_17
Hi! The fabric for the hair is minky and you can get it on amazon: amzn.to/3CBV5ir For the skin I don't know if you can find it on amazon, but I buy it from this website and the color is "Chamois" dollmakersjourney.com/fabrics.html#Deersuede
Hi , I jus saw your video, very good and helpful. However, I have a question that was previously asked. What do you do with the space between the bangs at the back and the the beginning of the back hair. That space looks empty. Can you show the end product of the back of the head, please!
Hi, sorry I might have misunderstood the question when it was first asked. You would make the back of the head with the same fabric you're using for the hair, so yes it will be "empty" in a sense. Unless you want to add more pieces depending on the hairstyle. There's a photo of the back of this doll here: dollphinwing.com/products/mermaid-plush-sewing-pattern
@@dollphinwing Thanks. Sorry, Typo, I meant to say hair. What stitch do you use to sew the hair onto the head of the doll/plushie? Same thing, ladder stitch?
Honestly with stuffing the hair or other flatter pieces, it might be better to use batting instead. More likely that it won't clump up weirdly that way. But that's just my interjection in that. Maybe someone will do it and see if it does well for them!
It's a good suggestion! I was a thinking of doing an updated video on this topic and sharing some more techniques I've learned over the years. So adding batting is a tip I'd likely include ^_^
Hello, I don't have a video tutorial but I have the pattern available here with photos and directions :) www.etsy.com/listing/263053288/pdf-doll-pattern-chibi-person-plush-ufo?ref=shop_home_active_25
