its been a while since this video came out but i was wondering if you made a video or a webpage about the vfd hookup and the settings im just about ready to order an rf45 clone and want to run the 3 phase 400 volts 1100 watt motor on (europe) 220 volt 50hrz single phase i am verry likely going to use the same brand chineese vdf youre using and like to prevent releasing the expensive magic smoke on the first try

1100 watt is a small motor. Are you sure that's correct? I have 4 of the China VFD and 3 are different. The main thing is the starting voltage and current. Just getting into the correct program mode tales a bit. 1 I have has a 3 level menu and the other are 2. I would hook a fuse to the motor for the first few runs but if its a 1100 watt I would get a larger motor.

Nice ArizonaVideo99. I have a question no one has answered to my satisfaction, I recently picked up a PM-727M and thinking about doing the same thing but I have a very limited budget (retired) what do I need to run a stepper on my head unit to just move it up and down? Thanks

It depends on a few things. do you want to just raise the head up manually? If that is what your goal is, there are better (Cheaper) options. I would head over to cnczone.com, you will find a tonn of information for just about anything you would want to do to your machine.

I would like to raise and lower the head manually for now but want to use a stepper getting ready for CNC conversion.

A 900 oz stepper, A 6A 80V driver. A 200 watt 75V power supply, A $25 USB BOB from ebay a 20mm ball screw at two AC bearings The setup for the PM-30 should be close but the top plate and the nut holder will be different.

Good to see you have it moving. I had a problem with the head dropping on mine when i powered down or hit the oops button, gibs are set right. I am also running 1200oz steppers, and Gecko drives at 72 V.(need a brake on my z axis). I wound up putting a counter weight on the head for now, I had to get a couple jobs out the door. I'm really glad i decided to go with the PM940, you cant beat the travel / work envelope. I'm curious as to what rapids you'll end up with those 900oz steppers, I'm getting 200 reliable out of mine. also, my head doesn't like going 3000 ( or i don't like the noise) yours sounds better than mine. I'll definitely be doing a belt conversion. Thanks for taking the time to post these videos, good stuff! -Tom

I don't really like the drivers I have on the mill now and my voltage is a tad low. They don't have drive morphing like the Geckos so wont make as much power at high speeds. I have three new Geckos that will go on soon and the drivers on this will go to the PM-30. I'm losing power at 100 IPM right now. I can run 125 or so but I can tell I'm down on power a bit. I always set the mills for 100 or 125 IPM rapids anyhow so I'm fine with that. I don't have the Z dropping on its own right now but the bearings are quite tight and so are the ball nuts and the Gib is quite tight. On my IH the head did not start dropping on its own for about 4 years then it started! It took that long before the ways got all the way smooth.
