Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Ontario Premier Doug Ford, and representatives from Goodyear Canada Inc. announce a $575-million project to expand the company’s tire plant in Napanee. The federal and provincial governments will contribute up to $64 million to support the plan, with the goals of making the plant net-zero by 2040 and increasing its production capacity, including for electric vehicle tires.
Also taking part in the announcement are Mary Ng (federal trade minister), Vic Fedeli (Ontario economic development minister), Terry Richardson (mayor of Greater Napanee), John Wise (reeve of Stone Mills Township and warden of Lennox and Addington County), Mark Stewart (president and CEO of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company), and Laura Duda (chief communications officer at the Goodyear).
Responding to questions from reporters, the prime minister comments on the recent Venezuelan election results, Birju Dattani’s resignation as Canada’s human rights commissioner, and Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s call for the government to put a tariff on Chinese EVs.
