Hi guys, I'm running a break in program for the 940 today. All is done on the kit and I re did the Y mount so you don't need to cut the stepper shaft to fit the motor.
Travels are X=30" Y +13.9" and 19.4 for the Z. This is with the Y un cut. The shipping kit will have about 2" more X travel by having the ball nut flipped. This lets the travel be more even.
It would be real easy to cut the Y for 2" more travel.
With 900 oz steppers and cheep drivers at 6A at 72V I'm getting a solid 140 IPM. Backlash is around .001" all the way around.

I am not as impressed with the machine as I am with the stock material you have next to It.

I generally have around 2 to 4K in stock. I do make CNC kits so its necessary. I have two piles that one and another on the other side of the room. Prices have gone up by a lot lately so I'm glad to have some extra. Thanks for watching.

It,s funny yesterday i watched my first video about this machine, and i left a couple of comments talking about how this machine would be a good machine to convert to CNC. Today i see a video of the same machine with a CNC set up. lol Already Subd, interested to see what else you get up to. Thanks for the video. Regards Peter.

Thank you for the information on the y axis. I have a 12" by 13" steel plate that I need to machine, and I have been looking for ways to do this.

Do you still make the pm30 ball screw kit? Do you have somewhere with the kits and prices listed?

I have the new 30 and its next. I think I have 3 sets of screws too. The new 30 really is a nice hobby mill.

How does it compare in size to the dm45?
@ArizonaVideo99
@ArizonaVideo99 6 лет назад
I don't have a 45 just a IH which is a fair amount bigger. Size wise it is the next size bigger. The throat is over 1" deeper than the IH which is 1.5" deeper than the RF-45. The column is about a 1/2 larger than the IH which is about 2" larger then the 45. Most 45 mills have about 9.5 to 10" of Y. The IH has 11" un cut and the 940 13.9. Its just larger. The casting are thinner in most places but the head looks to be stronger so I expect it to work well as long as you don't go over the line too much.

When will you have information about the ballscrew kit? Will you only be selling motor mounts or will you also sell ballscrews?
@ArizonaVideo99
@ArizonaVideo99 6 лет назад
The kit will have the screws too. Double nut C7 screws. I re work them for positive preload. I have three sets on hand and will try to keep then in stock. I just did my first run of parts with the 940 and it is working really well. It is stronger then the IH/ Charter Oak mill which is great. I only have Three Z nut holders to do. I do have a problem in that my mill came with a power feed Z so the bolt pattern id different than the standard. Do you have the mill?

I currently have an G0704 but looking to upgrade. In all of the research I've done the PM940M comes out on top. Are your mounts for Nema 34's? What is the diameter and pitch of the ballscrews you will be offering? I am thinking about doing the Clearpath servos. Have you ever set up a machine with servos?
@ArizonaVideo99
@ArizonaVideo99 6 лет назад
All the mounts are Nema 34. The screws are 5mm pitch. D=20mm X and Y and 25mm Z. I have one Clear path and it does look to be perfect for this kind of use. I will be testing it soon. I have been running a Gecko drive servo for years on my other mill. It is fine but the brushed system is not that much better than the steppers. So far I really like the 940. My biggest surprise is the gear box is almost quite.
