For anyone trying this tutorial with the latest AIRAC data: if you don't see FIRTH3P in the departure procedures, you can use LEVRA1P instead and choose the TULMI transition. You'll just be going a bit further afield, but everything else is the same as in the tutorial. Cheers!
this helped me heaps get started with the PMDG 737... brought it over a year ago and never touched it because i was too intimidated, after watching this video and taking notes i did my first sucessful flight!
This is a well thought out instuctional video. I especially like that it is long enough to be able to go through a proper ascent and descent phases, while being short enough to do repeatedly. I especially enjoy being able to repeatedly practice speed management and flap extension on descent.
You actually don’t need to start any power to access the PMDG setup option. Just hold down the MENU button. I learned this from another video. Great channel.

Very good tutorial but after a few more days with the 737 I've realized two things: 1. Never forget to enable BOTH FLIGHT DIRECTORS 2. The RUNWAY panel state has seemingly has a bug that can cause issues with VNAV and potentially other things so a COLDDARKGPU start is best. This is still great to get started. Had to stop in and say great tutorial. Took me two tries because on the first try i missed the LVL CHG button part and couldn't figure out why I didn't descend the same way and just kept cruising along and missed the runway. Got it perfect the second time round. Now on to the cold start. Thanks for this.

great videos. but for the PMDG 737, It would be better if it was a flight where everything was simulated exactly from COLD&DARK to Land including every manual steps.

Also i know PMDG didn't want to link the plane with Microsoft's world map flight route but that sucks cos punching in all the way points in the FMC is long....
If you're on PC, you can use simbrief to avoid having to punch in all the waypoints yourself. I did the tutorial this way because unfortunately on Xbox there is no other option.
When you start from the runway, the default panel state for me was cold & dark, which is why I didn’t mention it. But regardless, you don’t need everything off to follow the tutorial since the first thing we’re gonna do is pick the runway state. Hope that helps.
So you can start the engine automatically via the FMC? That's helpful cos the steps are long more over the assisted checklist doesn't appear to work......
So this is my fav plane to fly and I'm quite new to MSFS. However today, when I try to taxi out or pull back . The plane goes into the airport and no braking or backward thrust is working. When I tried to take off from the runway, the nosewheel wouldn't turn and the backward thrust isnt activating. Everything was fine yesterday. The only thing I did was install the PDMG Operation center, added cache memory. Not sure whats going on today. edit : Dang just when I like how real this feels, I realized it was the lack of pressure. needed to do maintenance lol.
Hi, can you please tell me how to undo cold and dark state and restore default settings. Lots of info on how to save cold and dark state but nothing on how to undo it.
I loaded into the PMDG 737 for the first time and nothing would click on from cold and dark. I had to start on a runway for anything to be clickable. Any idea why?
Just picked up the 737-800 two days ago, tried this excellent first flight twice, but even when following to the letter i have two this that are different on mine: 1 fuel is in KG, no worries, just set simbrief back to kg and it gives me the right numbers to punch in. 2nd, while Lnav comes on fine, Vnav does not, mfd gives no error messages. Did something change since this video came out a year ago?
@@FlightSimSchool i noticed one of the numbers in the climb page wasnt magenta-ized, that must have bee the trouble, set cruise altitube correctly and now it does activate! Thanx! 🛫
Thanks for the great video, it must have been a lot of work. I've tried following it twice now and have successfully taken off, but somehow the AP LNAV never works as I have mucked up the flight plan in the FMC undoubtedly. I'll wait a day and try it again. At present, most of the confusion is in putting the flight plan into the FMC as I can't seem to reproduce the waypoints/procedures you show. Do you think it has anything to do with my having Navigraph and having the plane data at the latest AIRAC?
Indeed, it seems like they updated the departures, and the one I’m using has been updated to FIRTH3P in the latest AIRAC. If you don't see FIRTH3P, you can replace it with the LEVRA1P instead, it’s almost the same but you’ll go just a bit further afield (and select the TULMI transition). You can start descending when you're about 10NM out of TULMI instead. And the ILS for the runway should still be there. I had similar problems with LNAV. The main problem in my case was that I hadn’t hit Activate (Execute) often enough; you need to to do it once for the route, and another for all the performance stuff (PERF INIT/CLB/CRZ). Sometimes it still won’t engage on the ground though, I’ve also had it only want to engage once I was in the air too. Let me know how that goes Roger, if it works for you I’ll pin a comment for anyone else on the latest AIRAC.
@@FlightSimSchool That worked LEVR1P with TUMI. I made it all through the flight, but it never picked up the ILS glide path for some reason. I also experienced the finicky FMC as VNAV wouldn't arm on the ground and I had to go back and go through everything again. I think it was my 6th try when I got this far. Good thing it's a rainy Saturday here. 🤣
That's great to hear! For the glide path, make sure you're level at 3000 ft before it intercepts the localizer, the course + frequency are set on both sides, and you should at least see it arm in white on the PFD until it's intercepted. It took me a good four or five attempts to land it successfully the first time too, but once you get it once, it sorta just clicks.
I would like someone to please make a video that is using the autopilot shortcut button to see if the autopilot works this way works for the atr but not the crj and wanted to see if this plane works
If you mean the autopilot toggle button, yes it works for me when bound to my controller. Make sure you don’t have a conflicting binding on another device for the same binding, that’s often the source of issues
well this is actual garbage. "just use quickstart options"... why would anyone want this? if you want quickstart options, just fly the default a320 and be happy.
Different people learn different ways. Some people want to get in the air first and get a feel for the plane. I also have a deep dive series that takes you through every step from cold & dark once you’re ready to take it to the next level. Thanks for stopping by!
