Thanks Brian! Timestamps: 1. Arambhashura - Develop endurance to go through the ups and downs of every process/journey you begin - 1:09 2. Newton + Mo - A first step gets you in motion; created momentum. Small actions will keep you moving towards your goal - 3:27 3. Ripples - Avoid Indecision. Analysis paralysis: take action! Feedback will tell you whether you have to adjust. Iterate - 4:52 4. Gradualism - Small, incremental steps - with time - will take you effectively to your target. Compound effect - 7:18 5. Controllable - Focus ONLY on what you have control over, i.e. behavior: effort, reactions, etc - 10:02
10:47 to 11:23 was great to hear. I had an interview for what I'd call a dream job recently and I made it to the final interview round with over 100 applicants and didn't get it. I've got to just keep taking action!
Here's the summary of the video I learned: 1.Embrace the 'plateau' and 'keep going' when the things get ordinary/boring. The plateau will end and you will Rise. 2. First step is the most important. Once taken, The rest is easy/effortless. 3. Don't overthink. Get comfortable with being uncertain and Take action. 4. Doing small things 'consistently' over a long period of time bears GREAT results. 5. You can't control the result, But you can control your Actions. Controlled Actions lead to controlled Results. Thank you for sharing this Great insight. :)
Thank you! I really loved this. The biggest realization I had from this was that my feelings are not controllable. I've been irritated with myself because of hurtful things people say to me causing me to be upset. This changes everything. Thank you so much!
+Angela K. Sams Thanks, Angela! Important distinction: Altho your instant feelings aren't controllable, what you tell yourself *after* they arise will influence how long the negative feelings stick around. :) Optimize is now free! Sign up/tell your friends! www.optimize.me

Hi Brian, really love your videos and will share with our audience. Only thing we'd challenge on is that we believe you can control your feelings and thoughts. Whilst most people don't have the ability to it, that's very different from it not being possible. There will of course be times when one gets angry but then having the ability to shift ones state is something that takes practice. We all do it with things like music, cigarettes, alcohol, pictures of family, etc but it is just being able to do it without needing those external things to shift an internal phenomenon. That's our belief and what we see when working with Execs and Olympic athletes. Would be fascinated to hear your wisdom.
I'm from most populated and diverse culture country in the world "INDIA". you are good at Sanskrit language. 🙂 I subscribed your RU-vid channel when you had 95000 subscriber. I like your channel and I watch youtube your videos everytime. I saved my time from reading books, because you provide the exact knowledge what is written in that book.
Hey Brian, I have been watching your videos since you were sitting at the desk reviewing Ayn Rand's Fountainhead. I like how you're a living example of a progress maker. You have literally, incrementally improved in all the ways these books talk about. I think that's awesome man.
This usually happened to me when ever I tried having conversations with people I don’t know, I always come down with fear. But I learned that action cures fear👍 thanks a lot!
Arambashura - a hero in the beginning vs in the end. The moment excitement wanes you tiptoe out the back door. Honor the plateau. Life is a series of peaks and valleys, not an unending series of orgasmic bliss. Be a hero in the end. The plateau is going to come, not if but when...get ready for it. Issac Newton and Mr. Mo (mentum) are best friends. An object at rest tends to stay at rest while and object in motion tends to stay in motion. Take a little bit of action..... Ripples - We don't have control over what we think but we do have control over what we do. Demons of inaction. There is no such thing as a right answer. Life responds to us when we take action. Do a little thing in the face of indecision. Gradualism - Kaizen -Compound Effect - The Slight Edge CANEI - Constant And Never Ending Improvement (Tiny little things done consistently over enough time lead to huge results) What's Controllable? Feelings and thoughts are not without our control. Behaviors are within our control. Thanks Brian Keep Pushing
I watched your video, I found it very interesting, because most ideas you point at resonate with intuitions I've had for a long time. I then bought and read the book. I must say you made a fantastic job at extracting the key concepts of the book, which made it all the more interesting to read.
BananaMuffin Thanks! I very much enjoy taking massive, consistent action. :) Here's a look at how I create my days that you might enjoy: brianjohnson.me/videos/make-today-masterpiece/
something that the odd book never told me was to honour the plateu, thank you for posting this video..After just 3 minutes of it i get what has been going on...years of misunderstanding growth...i started to believe the plateu was the sign i didnt really want it,the cycle reiterated itself over and over ...
UnknownUnrest my thought about the plateau was that I wasn't good enough because I did not hit my goal immediately, I was really a failure but I never thought about quitting.
The plateaus one experiences during personal development directly parallel the temperature plateaus as ice melts into water and then boils into steam. I call it the "phase-change model" of growth, and it's just one more beautiful example of the old wisdom of Francis Bacon: "Nature, to be commanded, must be obeyed."
Another excellent video Brian. Thank you sir! One point of contention though. Seems to me that your thoughts determine your actions. And gradually as you are able to better control your thoughts, you are able to better control your actions. Just my opinion, of course, based on about 10 years of regular meditation.
+Paul Ladendorf Hey Paul: I think it's always "Yes, and!" Part of a longer chat but I think one of the most powerful thoughts we can have is, "Now what needs to be done?" then doing it. :) Optimize is now free! Sign up/tell your friends! www.optimize.me
Effort and Behaviour are within my control. My feelings and thoughts are not. So my focus is on taking action every day diligently and with persistence.
Running through your videos , rather walking...LOL! I've been pretty good at helping others. Recently found your work. As you can see...LOL! Sending people your way as a means to keeping momentum going. The plan of doing it vs. thinking it. What I find is I use your work for myself to help keep me focused on my new journey, which is a bit scary. Using some of the maps you've shared. Thanks!
Wonderful summary. Evolution is a gradual change. Every big thing is result of small baby steps. However, why mind still thinks there is possibility of overnight change? It is possible during disaster. One event like earthquake and scene will be totally different.
This is such a great video. The principles are very similar to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I’ve been stuck in a bit of an inactive rut recently and this is what I really needed to hear, so thank you! Also, I completely lost it at “I think the turtle’s name was Harriet.” LOOOL! :D

Hey brian I always wanted to do what is right and always spoke up when something is wrong but people always told me it's against the rules or my mom got beat I was always told never rat on her boyfriend it put me in a position to freeze later in life not knowing when to take action. Will finally stand up matter I mean I lost so much time not standing up the right way. So many variables were programmed into my brain by people I thought were my friends like if I took action. I would be kicked out of my home or if I went against the rules they take everything from me.

That's so cool that you reference Jeff Olson in your video. He's the leader of the company I am partnered with. He's beyond amazing in his philosophy and truly confident in what he does. This is the company I am apart of www.PickTheGoodLife.com ...i'm honestly not trying to throw a plug on your video or feed just want you to know what he's up to! Thanks again Brian! #ImHooked
There are no Sanskrit native speakers left. Sanskrit is the mother of most of the languages of India and is one of the most logical languages ever invented .
wonderful video, thank you Brian! about the Sanskrit (pronounced sun-skrith) however, your pronunciation wasn't bad, its aaram-bh-shura, pretty close! also, Sanskrit, much like Latin, is a dead language i.e. its the root of most Indian languages but no longer "spoken" as such.
thank you so much bro, your video really helped me, I{m right now struggling for don{t taking action but the 2 point of your video just boom!! wow I never thought about that, sound simple, I{m starting right now, I}m suscribing BTW
