Have you ever held the entrails of a nationalist
Or bit the beating hearts of Tory men
Can you shoot an arrow in some fascist's eyeball
Can you paint with the red colors in these men?

To be fair, I'm pretty sure this supposed fact was never mentioned in the movie; if they were sisters,the movie should've made it clear so it's not our fault. Plus, most sources say that the two were only best friends and were not related. So unless it is officially stated by the creators or Disney, you don't have anything to regret by shipping them together, Lily.

@bleakautomaton4808
@bleakautomaton4808 5 лет назад
@@Draftsman_MC1300 I'm secong generation immigrant, born in USA, so I can say Brave wasn't misleading - people tell me Mulan had the big historical issues but I wouldn't know. From folklore, Brave had a nice coinciding feeling with tales I've read as a kid about fairyfolk and magic. The thing that got me on a second viewing was all the guys being obnoxious- blah blah some are in real life, still it was a bit grating for a movie. Not a bad or insulting movie, I want to be clear there. Not all horses in disney need to be personality machines like in Rapunzel but clydesdales are full of hyperactivity that I've seen. Needed more of that for sure, lol.

Being someone who comes from Cherokee Native American blood, as a kid I didn't think much of this movie. I thought it was boring and I didn't see it much afterward. Never have I ever felt so insulted in all my life with what I saw.

Pocahontas was a cool char though. But yeah this movie wasn't as popular as the last 4 prior to it and the next one was even more polarizing because parents complained it was 'too dark'. As a black kid who didn't know the full story of racism, because of education system, something about this movie always felt off, and now I know why. In 4th-grade history, I remember history being taught that the fight between the native Americans and colonizers was started by Native Americans, even though the heavily stated that slavery and racism were wrong. Of course, any sensible person, or anyone who was taught the truth would know that Native Americans did not start the fights and slavery, but it really shows how much the education system has purposefully falsified and sugarcoated the truth, considering that I was also taught that the KKK died out along time ago, even though they are still around today.

Pocahontas was my favourite princess (and movie) growing up. Now hear me out. I am from Brazil, I had no idea she was an actual historical figure and didn’t even realised it happened in the USA (movies made me believe the natives there all lived in deserts). I have native blood, but it is very distant and I don’t even know anything about that (you know, since they killed all men and forced married the woman not allowing for them to keep their culture). Most people in my region have a litter native blood. Regardless, I always loved my native blood the most* and thought the movie happened in South America. So it made me really happy that one of the princesses was a native. I didn’t care for the romance plot. I just loved how strong she was portrait. *Brazilians usually have blood from at least Portugal, Natives and different parts of Africa. I myself also have ancestors from Síria, Germany and Holland. But it is mostly a “fun fact” it is rare to know much about our ancestors.

To be fair Disney based this off of a book John Smith wrote. In it he made himself out to be a hero and Pocahontas out to be 18. It was all bullshit and really Disney shouldn't have based a movie off of it but here we are.

Wait, cheese? I thought Native Americans were lactose-intolerable, because vikings "poisoned" them with either milk or cheese.

Americans
@butlerkitty
@butlerkitty 5 лет назад
exactly...
@turkishvan2
@turkishvan2 5 лет назад
Native Americans are lactose-intolerant because they didn't have a source of animal milk. Lactase is the enzyme that allows us to digest milk as a child, but mammals loose it as they age. A mutation can happen that results in a human being able to produce it into adulthood, and if you live in a culture that has a long history of dairy livestock (Europeans, some Africans, Southern Asians), that mutation provides you with a an additional source of nutrition. Ergo, your chances of having lots of kids increases and it becomes a trait that increases with time. If you live in a culture without milk, the mutation provides no benefits, and so doesn't become a trait that gets passed on anymore than any others. Perhaps one day Native Americans will become lactose-tolerant now that they have access to milk, but evolution takes a while.
@radio7353
@radio7353 3 года назад
@@turkishvan2 i can confirm as a native (Cheyenne) that we are, in fact, lactose-tolerant like everyone else and have been for a long time, what are you on about
@turkishvan2
@turkishvan2 3 года назад
@@radio7353 Um, a lot of people aren't lactose-tolerant, so it's not exactly an "everyone else" thing. According to data, around 75-79% of Native Americans are lactose-intolerant. The number is also high among Japanese people and Native Australians. I don't doubt your experiences, but perhaps the Cheyenne unusually lactose-tolerant for Native Americans

Historically, John Smith didn't really have much to do with Pocahontas. Smith basically wrote a self insert fanfiction of his contact with the Powhatan tribe, and Disney made a movie out of it.
@nanoff815
@nanoff815 3 года назад
Smith never dated Pocahontas or anything like that irl. She may have delivered food to colonists a few times but thats about it. John Smith claimed that Pocahontas saved his life later on but that was either a half truth or just a lie.
