The last time I discussed pocket carry, I strictly addressed guns carried in the hip pockets (since that's my preferred method)
I realized that, while less common, I'd risky neglected to talk about carrying guns in back pockets.
I don't care for it, but I thought it was worth touching on why.

Carrying a gun in the back pocket is a pain in the arse.

I don't like back pocket because... -To quote weird Al, Im fat. Can't really reach it well. - I don't want to sit on my gun. Gun abuse and butt abuse. -I certainly don't want to fall on my gun... Ouch!

I would think the longer term hip issues of sitting on metal. Or the same issues as small of the back carry (falling and landing on it) would be a bigger reason back pocket carry is not an option for Me.

Great video! Only time I've seen back-pocket carry seem feasible is in BDU/cargo pants with a securable flap over the back pocket. Even then, it still had a lot of drawbacks. That said....I do try to keep one back pocket empty in case I have to "reholster" my pocket-carry gun to do something with both hands. It's a temporary expedient solution, and I will reholster it properly when able. Thanks for the information!

I have to dress formally for work and depending on my slacks I will either pocket carry or wallet carry. Not all pockets are alike and occasionally the front pocket is cut to short or my holster will not conform to the cut of the pocket. To each their own but I like options.

For pocket carry, Look at smaller classic pre 68 style, pocket pistols, ala vintage ppk, beretta 950/20/21 ,colt vest pocket. Palmable sized stuff.

I look at vintage guns the same way I look at vintage cars: Pretty and fun to play with, but not something I'd want as a daily driver. On PPKs, I don't know anyone that has ever carried/shot them a lot that also has a high opinion of them.

an LCP or keltec P3AT or P-32 are going to be *way* more pocketable... a PPK is still pretty big and heavy relative to modern "tupperware" pocket pistols -- for the same size as a PPK, you could fit a P365, which is full house 9mm and 10+1. the beretta tip ups are in a similar situation. the colt vest pocket is probably the only one that's on the same level, but you're stepping into 25ACP which has its own issues. a P-32 is like half the size and a 3rd the weight of a PPK -- and is sort of the pinnacle of absolute compactness. the P3AT is a tad bit bigger than the P32, but steps it up to 380acp. the LCP MAX is half the weight - has 10+1 of 380 and is about 20-30% smaller than the PPK. Let alone them being basically disposable, so if you did need to use them and they go to evidence for years (even in a good shoot, they're going to take it..) I'd rather not be out something that might have some cool history/somewhat collector value...

Check out a Seecamt .32 ACP in a leather wallet holster. It prints like a wallet. It won't do as much damage as a .9 but its better than nothing.

With the current market, they're overly costly, lack sights, and are honestly too small for the middle 80% of the concealed carrying bell curve. Honestly, the P32 is even a little too slim without that grip sleeve.

Well-presented, but, in my world, “hip pocket” = “back pocket.” Nobody I know uses “hip pocket” to mean the front pocket.

I've carried a Kahr p-380 in a wallet holster, back pocket, over 15 years without problem. You're overthinking this.

I'm glad you've found a solution that works for your preferred carry gun & wardrobe. I address these topics because people have different experiences, and if it's an issue I encounter, then it's likely here are others struggling with something similar. Especially for those new to/ trying to figure out their concealed carry setup, this info can help shorten someone's learning curve.

I dislike back pocket carry because: A. The sciatic nerve could be damaged from prolonged sitting. I had an issue with my wallet being back there and moved it to my front pocket. No more issues. B. I would worry about damaging the gun. The majority of pocketable guns are small and, in some cases, flimsy feeling.

I just don’t like the idea of sitting on my gun. Both because I don’t want to damage it and also because that seems uncomfortable.

Flat semis like the P32 aren't really noticeable from my experience.

Too many better options for me to use any revolver. I'd rather have 13 rounds of .380 than 5-6 rounds of 38 special.
@TheSuitedShootist
@TheSuitedShootist 3 месяца назад
There are advantages to each, and use cases where one is better suited than the other. The reality is that a 380 with that capacity is considerably bigger and harder to conceal for most people, and LCP sized guns in 380 suck to shoot. Revolvers also don't rely on the ammo to cycle the gun, so you can use lower recoiling cartridges like wadcutters, whereas short-cycling blowback guns like most 380s are far more ammo sensitive.
