A few years back, @LuckyGunner did the video "Don't Be A Tactical Hobo", where Chris graciously highlighted the channel.
In that video he said his style isn't noteworthy, or one worth imitating.
Is he right? That's what I talk about this week.

Excellent video. For those of us in sales or other position with high levels of customer contact, we need to be sensitive to how our prospects and customers dress. Too much deviation from their norm will cause suspicion, conscious or unconscious. My style of work dress has consequently become much more casual post-pandemic. While I wore suits with ties almost exclusively on sales calls pre-pandemic, I wear a blazer maybe 5-10% of the time now. The lack of a jacket forces changes in carry choices as well. The Galco King Tuk, coupled with a patterned shirt and dark trousers, is a good solution if you aren't going to be spending much time with any one person or group. For other situations, pocket carry seems to be the most discreet choice. What do you think about the deep concealment undershirts with pistol pockets under the arms?

I actually just did a video that touched on those deep concealment shirts ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r92ixf9s0Wo.html I also have a whole playlist you might find useful Concealed Carry In Dress Clothes: ru-vid.com/group/PLr67kkCLrqEWUzV0b0vmL3X8ZvQc_kGGk

Very gracious commentary that was eye opening for me and not what I was expecting. I feel better about my “style” now 🙂

Options are a good thing. "Fashion" is most frequently in the eye of the wearer. Daily routine is what counts. We can't all be tacti-cool every day in every place, even though that can be very comfortable. For most of us, we need to blend in everyday where we are or where we may be going. Comfort is mandatory in every situation.

Comfort matters, but I see a lot of people conflating "comfortable" with "sloppy"

What if Hobo is the natural camouflage of the area?

Yeah, a man in a nice suit in my town might as well be wearing a flashing neon light on his head.

obviously context matters, but I can tell you that even when I was visiting family in Houma, Louisiana I was still well put together. I wasn't wearing suits, but my jeans fit well, I wore leather boots, and usually henleys instead of t-shirts. Nothing drew attention or looked out of place, but I was still dressed well. It's not about wearing fancy clothes it's about care & thought.

@@TheSuitedShootist I agree. A little thought about fit and color goes a long way.

It’s obviously based on context. What do most men wear in your area. But it’s also based on your own individual tastes. What would you be wearing today if you were NOT carrying. Most of my wardrobe is carhart, button up work shirts, and jeans based even long before I ever considering getting my ccw permit or wearing a gun. I’m not going to change that. The gun makes no difference on that for me. But one thing I presume is that most of the public would never assume the guy wearing a suit is packing a gun but I bet they would be more likely to think that the guy dressed as a lumberjack is. We all know that some clothing choices scream “I’m carrying”. I don’t think a suit is one of them and that’s a good thing. By the way, there are still times I have to wear nicer clothing. Weddings, dates, vacation, etc. Your channel is informative on how to do it. Also, your clothing philosophy is great as a counter point to the tacticool, my way or the highway, you have to dress for urban combat or to buggout, and you always have to dress around the gun and sacrifice comfort. I’m not an urban warrior so none of that interests me. SuitedShootist thank you for being a voice of reason.

I'm just not a style person. I never have been. I never will be. When I started my first job back in 1989, we were required to wear ties to work. We didn't need a suit jacket every day, but we had to wear ties. Those of us who spent large amounts of time in the lab could wear short-sleeved, button-up shirts, but we still had to wear ties. I knew a few people who always wanted to play fashion. They would wear long-sleeved shirts and roll up the sleeves. I thought that the tie was an unwarranted safety hazard in the lab, but I didn't try to argue. Long sleeves rolled up aren't as big an issue, but I still preferred short-sleeved shirts so that I could wash my forearms more easily and more completely after handling chemicals. For a while, I tried to get different colors and styles of pants and to find shirts with very subtle patterns that would go with ties. Eventually, I gave up. To me, the result just wasn't worth the effort. I bought four or five pair of black pants. I bought six or seven white shirts. I'd get up every morning, put on the black pants and white shirt and grab a tie at random. All of the ties went well enough with the combination. Later in life, I was in another job where I didn't have to wear a tie but was expected to dress professionally. I went back to owning a bunch of pairs of black pants and short-sleeve, button-down shirts of various colors. Towards the end before my health failed, I was allowed to wear cargo pants and polo shirts. That style works well for me. I'm sure that people hate that look, but it's functional for me. I have something of a cargo body, so cargo pants are my choice. Chris Baker's style is fine, but I just don't care that much. He looks professional enough, and that's all that matters.

I feel like you completely missed the point of the video. But if you're saying you don't care, then I'm curious what brought you to my channel to begin with?

@@TheSuitedShootist RU-vid made the recommendation. I was tired but in too much pain to sleep. When that happens, I sometimes click on the oddest things. I was afraid that the video was going to be an attack on Chris Baker's clothing choices. If that had been the case, I would have listened to as much as I could stand, usually all of even terrible videos, and written a response saying that you were being foolish. If I became disgusted enough, I would just stop the video without writing a comment and click the "Don't recommend channel" option next to one of your videos. That would keep more bad content out of my feed. I don't have anything against people who want to dress fashionably as a hobby. People can have all kinds of hobbies. Dressing fashionably can be just like stamp collecting or bird watching or painting. My only problem is that fashion people sometimes take the attitude that their hobby makes them superior in some way. I like to remind them that it doesn't. The point of your video seemed to be an evaluation of Chris Baker's style choices. Just as forest enthusiasts might go into the woods and point out the identifying features that identify one kind of forest versus another or bird watchers might try to identify one kind of sparrow versus another, you were analyzing his fashion choices. I'm glad that the video was not directly critical of him. I'm not really a fan, but I've seen nothing in his appearance that is distracting or worthy of negative criticism. If the point of your video wasn't an evaluation of his style choices, what was the point of the video? The clickbait tag line about not being a "tactical hobo" seemed like an arrogant put-down of people who don't follow your hobbies of shooting and fashion. I was curious how far you would take that approach. I wondered whether the real point of the video might be finding an excuse to use "tactical hobo" in a title as rage-bait and clickbait just to increase views. In any case, I'm sorry to have bothered you. In hindsight, I shouldn't have watched the video at all.

@VTPSTTU certainly making a lot of character assumptions there. "Tactical Hobo" is a term used within the defensive space, as well as the title of Chris' original video itself. My focus is not on fashion, simply that men don't have to dress like overgrown children in order to conceal effectively, and all it takes us a little care and thought. It's unfortunate that you seem to have such an aversion to people putting effort into their appearance. Hopefully your pain subsides, and your weekend improves.
