Thank you for this, he was one of my favorite players because he was considered atypical for what we expected from a Bok, aka, under 100+ KGs for a back. I generalize a bit, but you get the the point. Look at what we have now with Cheslin and Kurt-lee. I know he had his run of injuries, and that was something that severely curtailed his career, but i wondered what we could have had with Brent if we gave him *a* position, and let him play at 10, and seen where he would have gotten to. Rapid pace, quick feet, and vision, a player ahead ohis time, at least I think so.
Thank you, Thomas. Brent was a wonderful player, for sure! I think if he was around today he would have been deemed very valuable indeed but such is life.
Went to loftus as a boy and watched Straulies trials, Brent was unbelievable. It was incredible to see, I couldnt believe why no one could tackle him. He wasn't side stepping, he jy excelerated and people fell down around him. Always thought he would have been one of the best scrum halves ever if he played scrummie
Thank you agian Peter..great interview...Sadly another great player during those years but just never could make his mark or own his Bok jersey like say a Habana or Matfield...and its ironic that his versatility in fact counted agianst him..very different from the current team where the more positions you can play the better..anyway great to see Brent doing well. Well done to the Bokke...2 out of 2 in Australia...apparently hasnt been done since 1971 but speaking under correction..now for the big boys at Ellis Park..ABs going to come at us hard..they have to win at least one match here to stand a chance of winning the whole thing..
Glad you enjoyed it, Sakabula! I think his coaches didn't quite know what to do with him. Funny enough I think in the early Jake White days Brent could have been our 10 and who knows how that would have worked out. But we'll never know. As for the current crop, what a wonderful outcome Down Under! 1971 is indeed correct and we've actually won three on the spin against them over there now.
Wow!!What a great Interview with one of our former 4:43 fastest springbok player!Big up Brent for coming on the channel!!Big up Pete for making things happening!!Bless!❤️💚👊🏾🇿🇦👍🏾
What a terrible waste of incredible talent. Would be great to see Brent playing with a coach like Rassie, he wouldn't waste this talent like other coaches did.
