I love my cameras and gadgets, but when I first saw the HoverX1; I thought it looked like a toy. However, after using it for the first time I was hooked. I love the shots you can get from drones, but I hate carrying a bag for the drone and I hate having to use a controller to fly the thing while riding. The Hover X1 fixes both of those problems with it's easy-to-fly nature. It makes getting drone shots actually fun instead of a chore. The shots it pumps out are very good for it's size too. I'm impressed!

That looks really useful. This stuff is on the verge of getting weird. People in the "me" capitals of the world (LA, S Korea, etc) are going to have little drones buzzing around following them everywhere like pets. Following them into coffee shops, stores, etc.

Wow, really great post! What makes this better is an actual real life action figure personality doing real world stuff! Your being a cyclist and mobile like that doing all the functions and features made it that much better! Now I have to take mine out and try something new. What an inspiration you are! I just got mine yesterday,first flight today, and man! I didn’t quit til I used up the three batteries I got with it! Thanks tons!

I own 27 GoPros among plenty of other video equipment and on the strength of your presentation I've made my purchase. Was going to buy the 2 pack, but that was all sold out so I got 1 with the 2 batteries and 2 additional batteries. Let's hope it actually rocks up and is good because YOU said it was. I just purchased this drone, and I like it! But there are pros and cons. On the positive side, it does most of what it says it does; on the negative side, there is only a 10 or 12-minute battery life, even though it comes with two batteries, and it takes up to 4 hours to charge 1 battery. I see the advertising showing people getting followed on their bikes; I guess the bike ride is less than 10 minutes long. There is minimal instruction on how to really use it; also, when sharing the video or picture, it's not as clear as the original. I had to research RU-vid to find how to work things; with that being said, I give it a 7.5 out of 10 rating.

Great review, looks awesome! Does your iPhone need to be unlocked with the Hover app open to record audio from iPhone? Or will it record with app open with iPhone screen locked? While in a certain flight mode like hover, can you use any hand gestures to take a photo? Would love to purchase but doesn’t ship to Australia!

Hi, thanks for this great looking video about the Hover X1. Can you tell me if it's a problem while sweating and keeping it in your back pocket? To be honest I just bought a Insta360 X2, I broke the first one. But for cycling I must say this is almost a better option. Greetz from the Netherlands

At 06:25 he mentions it flies around 7m/s or 25kph or about 14mph. So sadly, it's too slow for filming descents and quite slow for flats too but good enough for climbs.

I have a question and i hope you can notice it and give a reply. You mention in your video that it can use the phone as microphone. Will it work if your phone is connected to any bluetooth headphone/airphone or bone conduction like shokz? Will the sound would be captured by the airphone/headphone instead? nice video btw and clear review. cheers!

Excuse the dumb question but what if I ask for5 meters and there are trees in the way? Or if it's following low and other riders or cars come into the gap? Like how likely am I to lose it or for it to crash?

If its going sideways or backwards, it will just crash into the tree (but most likely survive the fall.) If its going forwards and not too fast, it will probably notice the obstacle and stop. Probably.

On orbit, zoom, birds eye etc will it still track you if you move? The developer's video on the kickstarter showed him making gestures to get it to do different things, is this so or perhaps a future firmware upgrade

The gesture is coming soon. Orbit it will visually track you, but it won't adjust the orbit to go around you.

That is very impressive ! Ive been waiting for something like this but the flight speed still to slow for me. As i love descending as fast as i can on my bike, i'm dreaming of a drone like this one with a much faster flight speed. In hopping that they gonna be able to make a fast one in few years.

It’s good for about 70 % of what most people need. It deploys super fast to use … no gps sync, compass calibration or yet another firmware upgrade It is simple and all the better for it in my view Most of us have another that does all of the above plus the 30 % extra but it doesn’t get used because it’s a real PIA to take and use. I got mine recently and it helps making things easier and more interesting Not cheap, not expensive but really handy and fun

It's not very loud, but it's pretty high pitch and whiny. I dunno... similar to an FPV drone I guess...

Excellent review. At about 14:50 I was trying to guess whether it would be you who ended up in the water, or the camera, but happily it was neither. This thing gives me such an ache in the wallet! I mean, what could be better for getting great shots of me riding my Yadea Elite Prime when it finally arrives? (Another great review of yours). [Edit - there seems to be a frame rate problem with your samples - a subtle jerkiness that I haven't noticed in other videos from this device - if anyone is put off by that, check other samples.]

It's because the drone shoots at 30fps, but I like all my videos to be in 24fps. I shouldn't have been so stubborn and should have just gone for 30fps.

i remember following the open source project paparazzi (terrible name) a decade ago that was about this exact thing and i was quite disappointed that for the longest time since, everybody wanted manual controls. the whole point of these cameras should have been, from the get go, that they're automatic. i'm happy we're finally seeing this. 125 grams is amazing for something like this, and i'd go so far that this is acceptable enough to be used as a handheld camera when you don't feel the need for aerial footage

@@ChinaCycling holy shit paparazzi uav is still an ongoing project, that's pretty cool. they started in 2003. it's version 6 now. i have to say i'm much more excited about an open source solution, even if it's more bulky and harder to get to work

It's not loud, but it's a pretty "shrill" sound. I don't think the wildlife would like it?

I've had a think about this device, fun it may well be but theirs something that is standing out to me. One goes out for a 2/3 hour ride, right, the last thing that I would want to do is to sit down and then spend another 2/3 hours watching myself doing that ride. Surly people have got better and more important thing to do in a standard normal day. Its a valid point...

The drone battery only lasts for about 11 minutes of flight. You would shoot clips and put them together to make maybe a 2 min video for social media or whatever you may need it for. since there is no setup time with this drone it's actually very easy for anyone to use very quickly with pretty much no learning curve. No one is making 40-minute videos of them riding unless they have 5 or more batteries on them anyway.

Cool, but it's significantly more expensive than my DJI Mavic. Did you notice some of your flying video shots, like at 13:45, looked like a video game where the road was blank until you got closer? Still super cool folding magic. My Insta360 X3 is out for delivery right now.

If this thing actually works well. We in LE could use this for foot pursuits for individual officers but don't think I could hear how loud this was. But just a thought as every agency or dept would have to approve it anyway. And LE does use larger drones but only special teams usually have those. Btw my work vehicle is a bike (no pedals thought) 😉 as well but we all share the same danger. Cars NEVER see 2 wheelers. Stay safe!
