This is THE best pocket survival kit I've seen. Simple, streamlined and effective. Most of these things I already had. Most videos like this I've seen I'm like " c'mon how do you realistically carry that on your person" Way too much stuff.

Very similar to mine. I carry a bit of bank line in mine and have modified a 111m outsider swiss army knife. Also 2 whirl pak bags. Easy to take on hikes and throw in my EDC bag. Thanks for all you do.

Nice kit! I have a "Micro" as an EDC organizer. I keep my Swiss Army Knife, flashlight, CRKT "eat'n tool", bullet space pen, Chapstick, contact lens case, aspirin, band aids, antibiotic ointment, dental floss, small salt & pepper shaker, & duct tape in it! Keeps everything organized & in one place in my pocket.

Thanks Aaron. Quite comprehensive for a small kit. Looks like you would have room for one of those fold-up water bags to go along with the aqua-tabs, and perhaps a small hank of bank line? A little bank line can be very useful... especially with the mylar blanket. A couple band-aids (for those band-aid times)? I'm going to put one of these together... if I can just find my pocket organizer... gear-a-holic that I am.

I have a policy concerning survival kits: your kit should, at a minimum, help you make it through 3 days. I believe the majority of survival situations last 3 days or less, and your kit should get you through the first three. After those three, you should already have the major things for long-term survival set up. It is also my belief that a lot of people forget the mentality about survival kits. The kit isn't suppose to save you. It is suppose to give you the tools that will supplement your skills. A lot of people rely on the tools too much. Your skills, combined with your tools, is what will get you through a survival situation. That being said, skills aren't worth much without good tools unless you practice primitive survival (most people do not). Build your survival in a general sense for multiple environments, or build it for your environment only. A kit built for the desert or mountains won't be worth much in the eastern or northern woods. I believe a lot of people also go overboard when making survival kits. If someone is hiking or camping, they're not going to carry a bag full of nothing but survival gear. They might carry a kit, but not a backpack full. So your kit should be small enough to fit into or on a backpack, but large enough to help you last three days. Now that I'm done ranting, like the video, like the idea, like the kit. I'm most likely going to steal it from you and put it in my own bag.

Great mini kit! I know others have mentioned it but a whirlpack bag or aqua pouch from survival resources would be a suggestion. As well as some sort of cordage, wether it be a small hank of bank line or a little spool of fishing line or floss or even a paracord bracelet attached to the outside. Oh and stick a Lithium AAA in that flashlight for better storage/shelf life and run time. Awesome kit my man!

A no nonsense real kit without 19 knives and roadflares and who knows what that would never be used. :) I would switch out the Victorinox and put in a similar sized Leatherman in that kit - like a Sidekick. and an orange bandana for signaling. Half sized sharpie, paper, folding money. Good kit. Enjoy your channel.

I got a similar bag with a belt loop on the back attached with mollie sticks to my car bag. A couple things I added that take up little room 1 credit card that I don't use and a little cash plus SanDisk dual USB micro USB filled with info. Not good in a world ending situation but very handy if your out and loose or have your wallet stolen. I also keep a small fisher space pen in mine.

The Micro Pocket Organizer from Maxpedition is made from 800 Denier Nylon, not 1000. You can get the UST compact signal mirror at Walmart for $4.44. Ceramic sharpeners don't take metal off the blade as diamond sharpeners do. I also keep a writing tool, paper, cash, and a few bandaids as well as some type of cording and safety pins. Be safe-

Please demonstrate starting a fire with a signal mirror. Have never seen that done. I know you said it would be difficult, so if you aren't successful, I understand, but I'd still like to see the process. Thanks in advance. BTW, a cutting edge is the hardest thing to produce in the wild, hence the SAK, but second hardest is cordage. Why was that omitted, other than the small piece on the ferro kit?
@lesliepaulkovacs6442

Nice! Mine is similar, but I'm using the next size up. But with the Snow going away, time to go to "Summer Weight." But as always, My Two Cents Time. I'd get Four Large Buttons and some Bank Line, put them in a Small Bag, and Rubber Band them to the Blanket. Gives you more Options for Shelter. I'd replace the UST with a Streamlight Micro, just because of the Clip giving me the Option of a Headlamp on my Ball Cap. Get a couple of Quart FREEZER Bags. This gives you the option of Water Carrying if you don't have a Container, and I've found that Freezer Bags are a lot more Durable. Put all of the Above INTO the Pouch, and use the Front Pocket for a SWAT-T or a Big Bandage.Chris Tanner has his 95/5 Mindset, where we Prep for REALISTIC EMERGENCIES ( No Zombies, No EMP Strikes from North Korea, yada yada yada) and First Aid is always at the Fore Front. YMMV, of course. Hope this helps, Take Care.

I think a large plastic poncho makes much more sense than a small emergency blanket. The reason I believe that is because a poncho can be turned into a shelter and you can wear it while moving around in rain. It is much more versatile than a emergency blanket. I also think two tablets is not sufficient. You'll probably have water for half the day and the kit does not have anything to hold water. That is why I prefer to hold a kit inside a stainless steel water bottle rather than use a pouch. The pouch is cool looking but it isn't all that useful in a real world situation. There are a few things I would definitely add to your kit. (1) small fishing kit. (2) 3 feet of 7 strand paracord. (3) a small medical kit that has: chapstick or vaseline for chapped lips and cuts, Tylenol, small amount of poison ivy/oak cream, and a few bandaids. Other than that, I think the kit is sufficient enough to help you survive a month before starvation kicks in.

Good video, but I'd just like to suggest as I read others below have that the kit should have plastic sheeting or a couple of large trash bags to create a shelter just in case you have to spend the night someplace and it rains or the wind is blowing. I like those little clips such as you attached, but I would consider buying a clip for a folding knife or look at other types that are cheaper. For me, $10 is a bit much, but there are cheaper options. I like the pouch, but would try finding one made by Condor or any decent company. I love some of the small pouches by Maxpedition, but needless to say they tend to start around $12.00, many are almost $20 and over. I realized that is what you had or wanted to show and in any case the concept is the point more so than the exact gear. Although that UST light is cool.
@mattkuepper
@mattkuepper 7 лет назад
I would try this. Just keep the lighter. lose the ferro rod, bic is perfect for emergency. Add some 550 or some kind of paracord. either throw on a 10ft keychain to the outside or stash some inside. but string/cordadge is paramount in so many things. just my .02. but love the pack i have a similar emergency one. slightly bigger. leave in my trunk by the spare wheel for emergency situations.

Great looking kit. But have to disagree with you about the TEC Accessories pocket clip. Three things: One, the clip comes separate from the micro split-ring that needs to be attached to it. Also, no instructions on how to attach it. I used a rather dangerous method of a thin knife blade to open up the split-ring to get the clip attached. Through an EDC website that I used to be a member of, I had a chance to talk to the owner of the company and express my concerns regarding the above issue. Number 2 (And definitely a number 2), I found the owner of TEC Accessories to be a pompous, arrogant, jerk who couldn't care less about his customers. Now that is just my opinion, derived from our back-and-forth conversation on the message boards. And yes, I was able to get the owner of the forums to confirm that it was the owner of the company. I did however notice that after our conversation, a new print ad. came out showing their clip without the split-ring attached. Letting potential customers know they'd have to take care of that, themselves. Three, after awhile, the opening gets too wide to retain the item it's clipped to. The clip fails, and then falls off, along with whatever it's attached to. Didn't just happen to me, but to others on that same EDC forum. A better solution would be a small carabiner clip, clipped to a belt-loop, with a length of paracord running down into a pocket, looped around the Farmer's stock split-ring. Much more secure. But in such a kit, you really don't need a clip or a carabiner.

Love the kit. Simplicity. I use the 5 c's to make mine. I love breastmilk pouches for ultralight water pouch, and I change out the zipper with some Titan paracord tied in a cobra braid that has tinder, trip wire, fishing line and other threads built in... And I add the compass to that zipper pull. I also throw in a mini sharpie or pen cause it takes up no space. Then there's my urban one... Whole other story :)

Has anyone ever tried to survive using one of these or even worse, the Altoid tin survival kits? While neat to look at, can anyone with a straight face tell me this kit will keep you alive in anything more then an overnight stuck in your car? I've looked at building one of these mini kits and can't see any real value to one other than some peace of mind for the novice. That's why I have my EDC with me 24/7 and Get Home bag in my car at all times. Anyone who builds one of these is just fooling himself, you need a whole lot more to survive then a tiny knife, couple of bandages, cheapo survival blanket and some twine.
