The first video in the series. Part 1 showcases a few of the amp models and demonstrates what they sound like when plugged straight into a mixing desk.
Peter, I play live twice a week to around 500+, and I also sing. I've used Tube amps mic'd for years, but we are now going with IEM's and so I purchased a Pod HD500x to run direct. I will also be running a Line 6 L2T for a floor monitor for some minimal air movement when I have one IEM pulled out on certain songs. I've researched all Pod Hd500x videos, and yours by far have peaked my ears! Wow! The tones you are getting are so similar to what I play live with my tube amps, that I am going to do my best to build these patches as you laid them out. I posted on your other videos also, but if you have a Patch List on CustomTone on line 6, I guarantee they will rake in some serious downloads and reviews! Great work and encouragement for those of us biting the bullet and going direct. Cheers and blessings to you.
This is one of the only videos I've seen were someone actually produces usable tones from this thing. Everyone else dicks around with stupid unusable weird ambient tones or talks throughout the whole video. Great job man!
I never did ever care for multi effect pedals or boards... they always sounded dry, and lifeless, even running into a quality tube amp. I play a wide range of music, and constantly fighting gear to get the sound I want.... and limited, because your stuck with the range your equipment can deliver. I have spent a fortune in guitars, amps, and effects searching for what I want to hear. After hearing this video I kept finding more and more of what I was looking for. So I went out on a limb, traded in my pedals for one of these... all I can say is, dam wish I had one of these 30 years ago.... I would have saved so much money. Even running into a powered pa speaker gives me the sounds I want with amazing results. I am very satisfied with this product. If you can't find the sound you are searching for, or play a lot of different styles of music... save some money by buying one of these.
The BEST!!! I've had Pod HD500 for over 4years and never mastered its resources... This and the rest of the series of videos is simply STELLAR!!! I've learned a great deal and my tone has improved dramatically thanks to Peter and his help and hard work!!! Thanks Peter and all the best!!!
Your guitar playing is stellar you are demoing this the absolute best way which is with a lot of rhythm guitar playing. Just soloing and showing off which does not demo the product it only shows the eagle guitar player LOL your guitar playing is Stella you are demoing this the absolute best way which is with a lot of rhythm guitar playing. Just so long and showing off which does not demo the product it only shows the ego of that guitar this is also the best demo I've seen on this product and it sells me on this one Over the Boss GT 100 which cannot get sounds anywhere close to this thanks again for your fine demo work
I just purchased this pedal this morning because I watched this video. I was looking for a replacement for all of my analog pedals. This model has certainly gotten high praise. As a former Line 6 product owner (AX 2X10), I've always admired Line 6. I went back to tube amps with my Fender Hot Rod with analog pedals, BUT this video rocks!
I just got my POD HD500x and I have been searching far and wide for a simple set up for my Mesa Boogie Mark IV. I practice every day at home with headphones, at gigs and rehearsals i use the Mesa Boogie Mark IV. I play Rock n Roll and NOT DJENT. Although those patches are really good, I am glad to find you and look at your video which is impeccably done by the way and VERY informative. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. I love my POD and need to spend some time with it and your video has helped tremendously. Looking forward to seeing the other 6 videos to see what i can pick up.. Thanks again Peter Hanmer
Brilliant demo! Now you can actually hear what the different amp models sound like and the impact of each effect on the overall sound. Something that's missing from other demo videos. Oh and very musical examples as opposed to stupid riffs repeated endlessly.
It would be great if you could cover the levels, outputs options or any other tricks for the best tone possible and anything that will affect the tone and that NOBODY covers in their videos…. Thanks C
SUBSCRIBED…! Finally a killer sounding video on the HD500x… Where in your website I can get those patches? Please provide a link and keep doing these great videos thanks Charles
After much consideration and watching/reading reviews I found these series of video's and decided to buy one. Best decision I've made for gear. Thanks for the video's, going to make anymore?
Thanks for the demo and patches. So many Line 6 Pod demos are done by metal players or are djent riffs, etc. or are massively drenched in overdone effects. I've been looking for some demos of the potential amp sounds that are more straightforward representations of the basic Marshall, Mesa sounds, etc.
Agreed! I would like to test out some of the patches soon! I like the djent and metal stuff...it's just not what I am currently using where I play the most (church). People already look at me funny when I warm up with thunderstruck or back in black at sound check... lol.
Yes, I do. When you create your patches, make sure that you make them at a decent volume. If you try and create a patch at low volume the tone will definitely change when you turn it up with a full band.
+Jan Cuma The POD's outputs were connected to two channels on the mixing desk via the XLR outputs. The desk eq was set completely flat. The output from the desk to the PC is connected via the I/O inserts on the mixing desk. Hope this helps, cheers.
I rate the HD500X very highly. I've been able to get excellent tones out of it. I think that my demos prove that. You are provided with a number of different eqs and also a global eq to dial out any nasties. As always, my advice would be to try it out for yourself before committing. Cheers.
on the pod are you using the same input source for inputs one and two? or is the second input not being used .im having a lot of fun with your patches ,thank you for sharing your work.
any idea when the next video might come out? im excited for the plexi/treadplate demo of how to make the patch and how they can sit in the mix for recording .
May i ask what output gate or cables did you use to go straight to the mixing desk Thanks for the information givin in 8 part of this series btw, super helpful
Great video man!!! Now I'm looking forward to buying this pedal, but before I buy it I wanted to ask you; is this good for playing live using a real guitar amp??(orange amp in my case) Thanks in advance
All i can say is that I demoed the HD500X in front of a Marshall TSL602 combo. The amp was set completely clean. Go and check out Part 5 and 6 in the series. I can't say that it will sound great in front of your Orange in that configuration but there are a few ways to connect to a guitar amp in order to make it sound excellent.
@@MarshallMusicDirect how to set amp in a complete clean mode? I have a fender mustang 2 amp and rp360xp processor.. I don't use processor because I don't know got to set amp into clean mode..😅 Your Advice will be very helpful.. Thank you 😄
@@pranavchasta61 bro...here is what he is trying to explain I guess...which also makes sense...if you necessarily want to use the amp then set it for sounding completely clean and then use your pod only as a pedalboard...no need to use the amp sims from pod anymore just pedals
Have you tried the Helix? If so, is it worth the extra? I currently have an Axe fx but I want to downgrade as all I do is play in my room. I use to be a line6 user, had the dt25 before the axe
Hi to all! Planning to buy this... Just want to ask if its possible to change patches using the footswitch? What I am thinking is I will assign patch for every footswitch... hihi... tnx...
Glad you liked the video Robertico. The song at 4:30 is one of mine. It's called "Lightning Strikes" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_clcfmo-77M.html
hi sir! im planning to get one of these but im worried that they might come up with a new model in the same range since it has been a while since this was released already... would you still recommend that i get this unit? hehe thank you very much!
Its a very difficult decision to make. I have no idea if there is going to be a replacement for the HD500X. What I can say is that the POD as it stands now is still a very capable modeler. If you include the model packs you'll have a massive amount of choices with regard to amps and effects. You could probably pick up an HD500X for a decent price too.
I just got one. they have a promotion going right now if you buy one brand new and register it by October 31st, they give you a free download of the HD fully loaded bundle pack. I would guess they're about to discontinue the hd500x and probably replace it because of this promotion.
Helo Peter..thanx for the demo, maybe I little to late to ask, I have a question, I already have this pedal, I play so many times in a stage, but when I played, sometimes the sound that I already set in my room, sounds different in the stage, how could it be? The sound sometimes to small, so the other player can’t hear my guitar sound. I have Blackstar id core 100, do you have any idea how to set it direct to the blackstar, so I can try my set in the blackstar, the goal is i can estimate how the sound that will come out from the amply on stage.. need your guidance, thanx a lot
I am fairly/ very new to processors...short question: comparing i.e. DIGITECH RP 500 (price abbt 180 usd) and this Line 6 which I can get for abbt 300 usd, do You recomend me to go to Line 6? Basically, as I play with a band, my main need is usage in pedal-boarding (change of effects/settings) compared to all capablities in all other ranges. What would you Guys say as recommendation? Sorry if question is simplified and stupid, but...
I don't know anything about the RP500 so I can't really comment about it's capabilities. I can say that the HD500X should be able to do what you want to do with it.
My j800 sounds like crap. Thru a tube amp and through my headphones. I have to choose the "j800 pre" to get a decent tone - fyi. Otherwise the hd500 is a great tool. Thanks for sharing this info.
Hi & thanks for the video! Many people have said that this unit is good for recording, but not live (i.e. not with amp) - especially as compared with the BOSS GT100. Do you think there's any credibility to this claim?
I would recommend that you watch Part 5 and 6 in the series. I plugged the Pod into front end of a tube amp and then used the 4 cable method into a solid state amp. You can hear the results for yourself. I was pretty happy with the tones.
There are many meanings to the term "truer sound". What I can tell you is that I have tried my patches through FRFR speakers and they sound great. It's up to you what you prefer. I still prefer using a proper gtr amp.
Good bye heavy guitar amps.Hello staying up all night, tuning in my favorite sounds. Its been a month, and I cant find the bottom of this processors abilities.Remember to always use clean, low noise, pickups and set you patches to a high volume.Don't want to which patches that are too high volume, and piss of the house PA sound engineer.
My big problem with Amp modellers is even though the sound being relayed to the DAW is a very faithful representation of the amp and speaker cab combo and that's the recorded sound it's very hard to get the same vibe through Studio monitors or headphones. I have very good Genelec nearfield monitors but they don't have the same bass extension my 2x12 cab has. I used to use Mission sm6A monitors which had close to 10' woofers that were better and I even used to monitor through Mackie srm350s which definitely did have the low end you need to feel a patch. I find it more inspiring to play through my Marshall Origin 20 and my 2X12 with a power soak on it so I can turn the valves up a bit without deafening my neighbours. Valve amp simulation is great but the monitoring situation needs addressing. I don't even know if there is a solution. Maybe headphones and Subsonic air projectors???? As a guitarist it's good to hear and feel the air moving... Luv and Peace.
How much of these sounds are affected from the mixing desk would you say? how is it going into the mixing desk, standard output guitar cable into mixing desk?
